Fifa man opposes England World cup bid.
JENNINGS: Mr Warner failed to respond to my requests for an interview, so I tried to catch his attention as he arrived at this political meeting flanked by minders. Good evening, Mr Warner - Andrew Jennings, BBC Panorama programme. Would you give me an interview? WARMER: Excuse.. excuse. JENNINGS: [to minder muscling in] We're on a public highway, please don't interrupt. WARNER: Would you please leave along. JENNINGS: I would like to ask you, how much profit do you expect to make WARNER: Would you please leave me alone. JENNINGS: from trading in World Cup tickets this year? WARNER: Why don't you go f--k yourself! JENNINGS: Mr Warner, I asked you how much profit you hope to make from the World Cup this year. You are selling tickets? [Warner beckons to henchman to advance] JENNINGS: Could I ask you, why did you allow Neville Ferguson to cast Haiti's vote to elect President Blatter? Could I ask you please, how much you expect to make from selling World Cup Tickets here? [to henchman muscling in] I'm not touching him. Following our encounter Mr Warner has issued a press release from his office here. It's headed: "Operation: Get Jack Warner." He claims to have unmasked a conspiracy between me, local reporter Lasana Liburd and the Trinidad Government. It says: "Mr Jennings went as far as attempting to physically obstruct me from taking the podium. His actions provoked a crowd of onlookers who sought to keep Mr Jennings from my path. I caution him to be less irresponsible in the future." Less irresponsible in the future? I don't remember being irresponsible, but I do remember this:
Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/panorama/5076282.stmThe big issue here is FIFA's rotation policy. Europeans have been opposed to it from the start - in the past they often hosted every second World Cup, under consistent rotation policy it'd probably be every fourth or fifth - so a power struggle between European and non-European countries over this issue is clearly heating up. If the rotation policy is retained, then North and Central America would get the 2018 World Cup, the region Warner is in charge off. If the rotation policy is discarded and FIFA decides to go back to Europe, then England would be heavily favoured to win the hosting rights, so Warner seems to be using his FIFA position to undermine England's chances, although he clearly did not speak in any official FIFA capacity.
Fair point, but still, I don't like the English team so I don't want England to be able to host it. If any country from that area gets to host it I'd want it to be Ireland, but I don't know if they have good enough facilities.
I dont know what this cock is blaberring on about, but if we're unpopular and an 'irritant', so we dont get to host world cups, I dont see the logic.
Germany held 2006, my god they are popular. I heard the Jews were jumping for joy along with all the other 200 nations they invaded and killed and tortured. Everyone loves Germany.
You see whats wrong with your argument?
There's only something wrong with my argument if Ireland haven't got the facilities, and nobody has yet showed me that they haven't.
Having read some of the later posts, it sounds like a good idea to have the World Cup held in Great Britain and Ireland with each country getting a group/s + some knock-out games.loyalgunner2007-08-12 21:20:17
If South Africa are sttruggling to get the required facilities, do you really believe Ireland have the facilities? C'mon be realistic.
If the reason for not choosing England is because 'we arent popular in Europe' yet Germany hosted 2006, it makes a mockery of Fifa
Ok didnt know that. Still, 2 grounds isnt enough to hold a WC. I think the biggest stadium that is home to a football club is Cork City's ground holding something lie 9,000 and like a third is standing
Gaelic Football/hurling - Croke Park
Football/rugby - Lansdowne Road
That's pretty much it.
Warner doesn't have anywhere near enough authority for his comments to be taken really seriously. Like I said in a previous post, it seems he is just trying to pile the pressure on to try to ensure 2018 World Cup is held in the CONCACAF region. I think it's a pretty safe bet that England will host the World Cup as soon as it goes back to Europe, without any joint bids with Ireland/Scotland/Wales. There's simply no incentive for the FA to go for something like that, given that England's got everything required to host a pretty good tournament.

OK, in that case I'm wrong about having the world cup in Ireland.
