It is interesting that since we have let JO'S and Brown go and Neville's retirement we are a little thin in fullback cover. Currently in the first team there is only Evra and the Da Silva twins as specialist full backs.

I was thinking this as well - obviously SAF sees Evans as a back up left back, played the second half of a game at the end of last season there...

Also I think Jones may be able to fill wingback spots at a pinch. And he must have faith in Valencia at RB, after that great job he did against Chelsea in the Champions League.

Hopefully Macheda gets a run this year. Not sure if Diouf has much of a future here.

My thoughts too with the way Rooney/Hernandez has worked I wouldn't be surprised to see us keep Macheda as a direct fill in for Hernandez and if we sign Sneijder he can play the advanced mid/deep lying forward role that Rooney plays - could mean the end of Berba though.

I think Berba will stay. One injury to Rooney or Chicha and suddenly we are relying on Owen/Macheda/Welbeck to win us the title.

i genuinely believe that giggs would be a fantastic left back at this stage of his career. can read the game and still has a turn of pace about him.

3-1 win over Chicago.

Rooney, Rafael and Nani.

Starting back five of:

de Gea - Fabio - Jones - Smalling - Evra

Hows that for a backline for the future, considering Rafael will be there as well. Hopefully de Gea remains loyal. I kind of have the feeling that he will bugger off as soon as Barcelona or Real Madrid need a new keeper.

Amos has been absolute quality on this tour. Both in the games he's played and in training (if you watch the videos). I think he's now a Premier League keeper and I wouldn't be at all worried if he had to come in for a number of games in an injury crisis.

We definitely have the best young players in the league. The way that Ferguson brings these guys in, and mixes it with youth coming through the system is ridiculous. Guys like Hernandez, Welbeck, Cleverly, even Rooney's only 25!

Future very bright.

Some of these results highlight the massive gulf in class between world class and the MLS. Obertan was absolutely ripping up, and doesn't get a look in with United usually. I didn't watch the game (though followed on twitter), worth noting that we were 1-0 down until we brought on a whole lot of first-teamers.

Still, cracking results over in the US, a good preseason so far.

Just watched highlights of the Chicago game and they created a lot of chances, with some better finishing/luck it could easily have been 3-3. Same with the Sounders game, they created a lot of chances and seems that we only start hitting out straps once our better players come into the games. It is good to see the youngsters get time together because they need it.

You're right about Obertan, he had a mean game and has played well in the games against New England and Seattle as well. Hopefully he steps up this year if given the opportunity. Won't be easy with Young, Nani, Valencia, Park and probably Cleverley ahead of him.

Another good result today. Looking good. Demolishing the best of the MLS 4-0 while Chelsea doesn't exactly convince in a 4-0 win against Kitchee. Interesting to see Jones starting at RB. Looks as though Anderson is ready to step up this year and score a few more goals and control the centre of the park. Sublime skill again from Berbatov for his goal. 4-0 and the likes of Owen, Macheda, Nani and obviously Valencia didn't even play. Promising. Very promising.

Saw a comment on twitter that Jones could be an o'shea-like player being able to play right across the back-line plus in defensive mid.

Owen, macheda, Nani and welbeck all impressed me when they came on.

Hernandez still to come back, was out with concussion. He may be out for 2 weeks.

Rumours about Jack Rodwell emerging again... nothing concrete as yet, but apparently 20m with someone like Gibson or Welbeck on loan.

This move makes sense in every sense for me, more depth, more steel in midfield, more options, and a good deal for Everton who can then splash out a bit. The only thing would be I'm not that keen to lose Welbeck, think he is far too talented. I can see him becoming a real star this year as our third choice striker, as Berba and Owen slip down the pecking order.

In sum, Gibson + cash for Rodwell would be excellent in my eyes, and be a good way to finish up the summer spending.

Not so sure about Rodwell. I know he's young and talented but 20m might be a bit steep for me considering he was dropped from the Everton line up at the end of last season. Rumours today that we may go after Hamsik if Sneijder deal is too hard to pull off.

Getting Hamsik will be even tougher I think.

I'm fairly sure the 20m includes the loan fee etc., so it would be more mid-teens. He did tail off late last season but he's young and super-talented. If he can keep injury-free then we can get a top player.

To be fair that kid does seem immensely gifted and once he has a work permit will be good to watch in the Premier League.

I know Welbeck is young, but I have to admit that I don't really rate him.Time will tell.
As frustrating as he sometime is,Berba is way better than Welbeck.
