IMHO, aboslutely highest priority has to go to Christchurch. NZF owes the city big time. China said they wanted to play two matches in NZ, so I'll say play a midweek match against China at North Harbour (to satisfy the worst contract ever) and the real match at AMI. If not, get Australia or a big team in Chch, and get a minor team in Auckland for aforementioned contract reasons (I'd rather give up friendly matches than have Auckland demand they host our qualification playoff for Brazil 2014).
If Mr Reid continues to tackle players in the manner which he undertook on Tuesday night, it will be a struggle to request ANY nation to visit for a game that isn't a FIFA World Cup Qualifier.

I happen to agree with Robb's posting. The rather sad incident of Winston Reid's tackle, was most unfortunate and I am sure he regrets it deeply. You talk as if you are conversant with Winston Reid's playing history.."continues to play in the manner...Qualifier" It happened regretfully so..but don't make out that he's a regular at making horrendous tackles.

If there is one player in the Premier League who certainly has a history of horrendous tackling...Leg Breaker Target BRUTE it is Ryan Shawcross who plays for Stoke. Have you played football, if you have then you would understand.

The last time Christchurch hosted the All Whites was in 2006 for a friendly against Malaysia. This drew 10K people when football wasn't yet trendy. Since then, it's been:
Auckland (Malaysia)
Wellington (Vanuatu)
Auckland (New Caledonia)
Wellinton (Bahrain)
Auckland (NZFC All-Stars)
Auckland (Honduras)
Wellington (Larissa Riquelme)

That's 3 for Wellington and 4 for Auckland (3 if you discount the NZFC match - obviously not a real match but more than Chch has received). 0 for Christchurch.

In my personal opinion, All Whites home matches should be rotated between the three cities. Christchurch has waited long enough for their turn, and I'd personally like to see the next home match played at AMI. This is despite my not living there and the fact that it'd be expensive for me to attend.
Another reason which surely trumps all the rest is it'll stop me whinging temporarily. Everyone wants that. It will also stop me sending abusive mail to NZF (I only sent one message and it wasn't abusive really, slightly over the top at a stretch).

Hi, I whinge too, esp in my Twitter page and on my facebook page as well. I don't think much of the NZFA's ceo Michael Glading. In Dompost articles he always has a sneaky snipe at Wellington...what on earth has Wellington done to him? I was that brassed off..after his latest snipe that I voiced my opinion of him again as the tweeters in my page are used to my flowery language..most of them are editors and journos as well as club bloggers.

I have nothing against Auckland, but I do not like Glading at all...to me its Tall Poppy syndrome, its the impression I get..Fact: Auckland had the Knights, obviously the support waned and Terry Serepisos bought the Franchise and he with his Nix foundation members and administrative staff have developed the Wellington Phoenix through sheer hard work..Glading even cried about us having a Stadium..and what! Rugby is played there too.

Glading is an inappropriate person to be holding that position..his comments to the media show him to be quite unprofessional OR DUMB!

Sorry to rant on, but I saw that you have complained to the NZFA...and I am going to do as you have done.

Couple of things,

No one can read your twitter as your private so your ranting falls of deaf ear. Same with FB. Can you please explain how Glading brassed you off and why you don't think much of him.

I'm a little confused on how you base your argument.

Also, who is more suited to the role?

How do you know my Twitter page is "Private" or that my Tweets are LOCKED EH? I make use of my DM application and I guess the only one who listens is Siggy 2010 who follows me on twitter...like he follows many others as well...DM is Direct Message and Yes I do inform my followers by DM and that is not tweeted in my page.

I have a number of articles both Dompost and the Herald..I have cancelled my Dompost subscription as have other Yellow Fever posters...in those articles Glading DOES infer his negativity towards Wellington. You have to read the articles and the common thread running through them all is one of which I call it Tall Poppy syndrome..He does'nt come straight out and say it, he intimates and infers..one springs to mind, Winston Reid he stated that Winston should come back and play for the All Whites as it is them that helped him secure his West Ham contract..he had only been there 2 weeks and Winston had said all along he wanted to play for the All Whites..that is nasty. Ryan Nelson said his bit and he said Winston needed to think carefully before leaving the
West Ham club to come home for the 'friendlies' and he should know, not Glading.

They stuffed up Glen Moss's chances of playing at the recent World Cup through administrative bungling and lateness..that is not professional behaviour and the buck stops at him.

You like me are entitled to your opinion and might I add a Woman's Gut Instinct is Never Wrong.

I am not going to debate the finer points of football politics with you, I'm sure it goes on behind closed doors.

I never answered your last question. A person for that position should, even if they personally don't like it..At all times when speaking to the media be neutral and promote and encourage the beautiful game of football with positive messages as it is the youth of today who will be the future of NZ football at the highest level.

I wish Danny Hay were the CEO, he's a grassroots man and he knows what he's talking about from experience. He though I have read loves taking the kids or youth teams and I respect that because thats where it's at..On the Pitch and not being a bitch like Glading

Where were we..? Oh that's right, 2011 Friendlies.

Okay... after skimming through the rest of this thread I understand that the next FIFA window is March '11 and that this would constitute the next good opportunity for the AW's to play.

Lets suppose (theoretically) that:
- Reid is serving a suspension for his red card vs Paraguay.
- Vicelich has retired (again).
- Nelsen and Smith are nearing the pointy end of the EPL/Championship seasons and can't/won't commit or are injured.

So, who does that leave us with in the AW's defensive line? Sigmund, Lochead, Boyens... Oughton?

Lets hope we're not playing anyone in the top 50.

In before CBoz!

Plodder can play RB. Cameron Knowles might be worth a look at, though to be honest I'm not sure how he's done this season past.

Any word if Aaron Scott will be playing this ASB Premiership? Last I heard he was having a sabbatical from football.

Oh, and there's always David Mulligan...

Even though I'm very excited by having games on the horizon, 2011 is going to be hard for football to get a lot of media coverage due to that other code having it's world cup here next year.

Selling out 3 games at home might be difficult.

Fixed. Although tbh I don't think we should dwell too much on how the RWC will affect football. It will be the biggest sporting event this country has seen and probably will see in decades, and if NZF think the round ball code will be anywhere near remotely competitive i think they're dreaming.

That said, the RWC shouldn't affect the long term popularity of football imo, we just need to forget about 2011

I had a laugh when he said he was taking a break - all because he didnt make the WC squad. He was acting as though he was a 30-something year old who had been playing in the EPL for half a decade and nearing the end of his professional career. He was 23 and playing in the NZFC - yes there were other better players than him. He should go overseas and come back in 5 years.

If you are playing a team that is likely to only get between 5000 and 10000 in the main centres (like most island nations), then why not take it to New Plymouth, Nelson, Napier, BoP, Palmy... they all have stadiums that can easily handle a crowd of that size.

They are likely to get a similar crowd and it gives people a chance to see the All Whites who normally couldn't.

It's gotta be South Korea or Japan. Ricki wants play teams that play the style that we're likely to come up against in qualifying. Therefore not South American, European or African. That leaves pretty much just those two and North Korea, which I doubt we'd want to play.
