I thought Winston Reid is banned for two matches following his red card against Paraguay?

Is it one or is it two matches? I've done some searching of news stories following the Paraguay game and on the FIFA site but I've had no luck. Am I wrong in thinking that a red card is an automatic one game suspension, but if the incident is deemed severe enough extra penalties may be applied, such as another game suspended?

Thats what i thought but im sure Vicelich was banned for two games (Mexico and  Australia) for his red card against Jordan, didnt think there was any additional disciplinary handed down to him either. I thought 2 games was the standard.

Which is what Glenn Moss got, with added disciplinary action on top of that 2 games.

I also hear Nelsen is out for our next 'non friendly' (whever that will be) for back to back yellows at the WC, apparently FIFA still follow through with those through to the next non friendly match, so the commentators said anyway.

I'm sure someone will get to the bottom of it!

Nelsen can surely use his suspension on one of the Oceania qualifiers he was not likely to play anyway!

Yeah our next compeditive match will be against Vanuatu or something anyway

[QUOTE=George Kostanza]covering the same info in two places - squad discussion here

why does it matter? both threads are similar. and we were talking about how the suspension system works anyway, not the players nor tactics, formations... etc

I would have been keen for the Tokyo game but the timing is way off for me. Still it's a big game to miss....

I work with a Japanese woman and she says that staying in Japan is not that expensive if you stay away from the big hotels and eateries. From memory I have heard that before and my brother lived there for a year or so doing karate and he said the same. I'm sure you could go on the proposed White Noise tour and kick around Vietnam for a day or 2 and get a cheap flight to Japan and back to Nam and maybe only spend a night in one of those guesthouses [ryokan] this place http://www.cheap-hostel-tokyo.com/ is about $NZ55 a night and there must be others. Just eat noodles....

Or if you're on a tight schedule/budget it is possible to get there and fly out without actually needing accommodation. Costs around $2500 Chch >Singapore > Tokyo and back. My plan was flight arrives in Tokyo 6am game day and flys out around 10am the day after (just have to party up a big AW win over Japan that night).

Jetstar fly to Tokyo, and there are some ways to make Japan a bit cheaper. From Narita get the local commuter train for 1,000Y instead of the airport express. And eat lunch at 7-11 convenience store. Hotel and eating flash dinners kills the budget, otherwise it isn't that expensive.

Would be good to meet up with some of you guys if you end up coming through HK.

Rumour floating around that Chile will be playing Aus in June.  It's during a 2 match international window so would be good to get on the back of that match.

Hopefully we made connections during our pre-WC match and are able to get them here.

Three for me, and two for them.

Would be good. It is something I think could work well for both countries - split costs to get teams over here.

Has anyone decided where we're sitting for the Japan game? Category 4 I guess, to get away from the Samurai Blue?

They're ?? for Category 4 (non-reserved seats) so we don't need to buy them together. Just need to get there early.

"The Advertiser understands that Australia will play World Cup nemesis Serbia in an international friendly in June and the match will almost certainly be in Adelaide, as Melbourne cannot host the game because of clashes with other football codes."
WOuld be good to get Serbia over here too.  Might even get to finish the entire 90 this time.

They are also tipping that we will play Chile in June. I would be shocked if Chile don't play in New Zealand as well, with the direct flight from Santiago, probably before Chile play in Australia.

I just read that too. It's understandable but quite a shame. Too short time frame to move the game outside Japan I guess, I have a friend in the north who was looking forward to watching it amid the chaos there.

Ridiculous and short-sighted call. We are unlikely to get a friendly against such top-quality opposition again any time soon.

But if there is a nuclear explosion when they were meant to be over there, we will all be commending the great decision that NZF made.

Yes, and I'm sure you'll applaud every country for pulling out of the rugby World Cup because there is no guarantee that Christchurch won't sink into the ocean and take the rest of the country with it.

... although I'm assuming that NZF made the call. If the players themselves made the call, it's fair enough since they're the ones who had to run the risk.

Could be insurance issues if there is still a travel advisory on Japan?

You're joking, eh?  Getting friendlies against high-quality opposition is what's important at the moment?  Not the safety of the players who are going to play in those games? And to compare it to the RWC in Chch is invalid - there isn't any danger of exposure to radioactivity in Chch.

At a time when non-essential travel to Japan is being discouraged, using the rationale that we should go there because it gives the AW's a game against a highly-ranked FIFA nation- one which, incidentally, has just undergone the worst natural disaster in its history - is ridiculous.

Why? It would be like cancelling a game in Wellington because of the Chch quake, and its not like Japan didnt want to play. I think youre the fuckwit
