History to repeat? Bahrain lost the Inter-Federation play-off to Trinidad & Tobago in 05. If T & T can beat Bahrain to qualify for the World Cup, NZ can!!

well now we know who we are facing.....most seem to be saying Bahrain preferred opposition to Saudis,
Must say both teams certainly looked the goods.
With a huge crowd like that and massive atmosphere they were both playing out of their skins.
Exciting to watch, will be a massive challenge for NZ..especially away.

agree El Grapa, an away goal or two might be crucial...The Bahraini won't give up.

I think part of the deciding factor for many is that Bahrain play in a much smaller ground without that crowd behind them.  Good result for us from that point of view this morning.

Don't you mean "Smeltz the new Dennis Lawrence"? In the 05 qualifiers Bahrain drew 1-1 with T & T away, then came home with a draw and an away goal to lose 0-1 at home - Dennis Lawrence was the scorer. Smeltz to score away for us in the first game.

Didn't see the first game, but apparently the ground was pretty full there with a fairly intimidating atmosphere as well...at least that's what I've heard.

Well Bahrain are on form, but if you had asked me 4 months  ago whether i would like to face australia, japan, koreas etc, i would have been happy  with  Bahrain then and now.

not that it matters, but a population of 700k...how hard can it be ...joking.

plus temperatures in  oct start to drop compared to  now. so if we can play in hotter conditions with 10 men and get a 3-1 result away to jordan, then we shoulld fancy our chances in bahrain.

we still not favourites of course....maybe we got a 35% chance of getting a result there.

If we build it, they will come...

1- Our pop. is 1 million+
2- Temperatures may drop, but humidity reaches 95%
3- Take that as a lesson, NEVER NEVER count us out

The reaction of the players said it all in that game, Saudis all collapsed to the ground when Bahrain scored their 2nd.

Very poor defending of a corner... luckily the Phoenix aren't quite that bad :P

I take my hat off to Bahrain. They've shown throughout their campaign so far that they are a real team of fighters, and very ably coached by Milan Macala.

I hate to sound pessimistic but it will be a tough ask to beat them. They will not fear us one little bit.

They are more than capable of beating us, home and away.
Had a lot more competative football than us, and will be expecting to win both games.
I hope they under estimate us but they do have a  good coach.
Milan Macala,  "We were lucky to score in the last minute but we really deserve to reach the World Cup finals. " Now we will start thinking about preparing for our next game and I hope to see Bahrain in the World Cup finals."
He's on it full time till its over.
But, we can do it!

I know it is only a little snippet, but some of the passing and control seems pretty poor (look around the 1:40 - 2:00 mark)

We will piss this.  I am thinking 3-0 to us over there, and 6-0 at home.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

The second Bahrani goal there were eight defenders v four attackers but no one on the far post.
Is this some new idea or just poor organisation?

not just that, the Saudi number nine has an open run to the corner flag to waste time and win a corner, yet he dribbles into the box, loses it, wins it again and then his heavy touch sees Bahrain counter. When Bahrain run upfield both Saudi strikers stay put upfield-i'd say that is as tactically naive as the corner, and the number 9 is as much to balme as anyone

Bump. . . ? Is this some subtle hint that NZ should be in AFC as 5th best???

Stuff that, if we were in AFC, I think we can beat North Korea and nab 4th place.
