I'm Hudson out now. I was prepared to give him time but Jesus enough is enough.

So far he's talked a good talk and made some pretty power points and that's about it.

He wants us to play a beautiful attacking brand of positive football , yet he puts out 5 at the back and pumps it long.

He wants players to be playing professionally yet brings in a bunch of average kids from Onehunga sports and Wellington Olympic. Brings back memories of RH overlooking pros and bringing in Plodder.

He implements a thousand different cultures , strategies and plans but can't beat a shockingly bad Myanmar side.

Developing culture , depth and strategies can't be used as an excuses to play like shark. He's had control of the u20s , u23s and the senior side and changed absolutely fak all.

Really really hope NZF have some balls and flick him because at this rate we're going to get whipped by the island teams in the islands.

It's not a matter of balls. As 2ndBest was saying on Twitter, it's a matter of having the cash to buy out Hudson's contract. Does NZF look like it's made of money?

I'm a little worried to say the least. It wouldn't surprise me to lose to an island team now and it almost wouldn't be an upset with how we play at the moment

Isn't that what Martin was hired to do - bring in the money? Ex Barclays, London Irish and all that?

Hmmm.

They are putting the ASBP on Sky.

I'd say yes.

Besides, Hudson must have a performance clause in his contract. Drawing with a team ranked 162nd in the world and playing like shark? We should be thankful for the penalty cause without it........

If that's the case it will be NZF paying for it, and hoping to secure enough advertiser money to make it break even. Martin is supposed to be the man to bring in the dollars; that's why he was hired.

With due respect, you were just as vocal as the rest of us during the game as to how bad we were. We were that poor when I re-read that this morning.

Yes. We were bad, in a meaningless friendly. That's not in the same zone as losing in the semifinals of the OFC.

(And nothing that comes after "due respect" should be said. It's like "I'm not racist, but...".)

Fine then. Have it your way. Here is no respect for your opinion.

Based on the fact that we expected to storm through on a meaningless friendly with a near full strength team against a team that is 30 places lower than us, got humped 9-0 days before and needed a penalty for a draw.... Yeah, nah everything is fine...

By the way, go back to August 2012 when we all said the exact same thing after Honiara. The signs were there with hindsight and we have not learned. Tell me I am wrong. I want you to.

ASBP on sky - since when?

Happy if it is, but I have not heard anything about this.

Thats my point. NZF can afford to put the ASBP on Sky, we can afford to jettison Hudson.

Nothing in the press yet but there is more leaks than an FFA kit launch. Do a search on here for Bruce Holloway.

Stayed up to watch the game but fell asleep with about 10 to go in the first half, so missed our goal, woke up again as the 2nd half was kicking off (at the time it was just one long blink). What dross that 2nd half was. Not sure how many of those youngsters selected would make the top few ASBP teams.

Hudson has shown he  can " talk the talk"  but clearly he cannot " walk the walk".  Its sad because as a football supporter you want your national team to perform.

If not on the field then in the committee room afterwards .

If NZF haven't flicked De Jong and others for their massive stuff up, then can't see them growing a pair anytime soon to flick Hudson

Reality is our whole system is failing.  We're not producing good enough players, we're not getting our young players into professional teams and our results are bad.  Don't know whether the current regime at All Whites level is a symptom or a cause but you won't win anything at international level with NZ amateurs.  I don't event think that a majority A-League team would get through qualifiers 8/10 times so not sure getting everyone playing at the Phoenix is the answer

I'm afraid it will take us losing to the Island Nations for Hudson to get the chop. If that happens, he definitely would deserve the chop too. The other way would be for him to resign.

I can't imagine what constraints he might be under but you'd think it would make better playing sense to pick professionals playing in Scandinavia [for example] than from NZ local leagues. The costs would be similar to fly to Burma from Oslo as it would be from Auckland surely.

When you consider Howieson (whom said he is focusing on club) Keat, Henderson and dare I say it, Chris James (you are only as good as your last game and his was good) there is much better talent available thats not getting picked for these kids. What about this Dutch guy?

You cannot honestly say that Henderson and Keat at the very minimum, are worse than these kids getting picked.

Well, maybe its better to keep Hudson on, if we are getting a 5 year ban or something why bother paying him out. He'll have to look for another job then.

Hopefully we are able to get a full strength squad together in future windows, all well and good trying out a lot of players but eventually you need to work on systems with your best players available - the here and now.

Or, have we given up on 2018 and already focussing on 2022?

I think the number of players he has used is pretty damning.  You can't develop a team when you're chopping and changing from squad to squad

I don't see how building for the future is compatible with playing teenager who aren't professionals.  As they get older they aren't going to improve, they will inevitably drop away.  We should be focussing on assembling a squad of professionals and doing what we can with them.

I watched a replay of Germany v Poland before the game against Myanmar.

Maybe that was unwise, but at least my evening wasn't totally wasted and it made it hard to take our game too seriously.

That's a heck of a long way from scoring a couple of goals against Mexico in the second half at the Stadium on a perfect evening, or scoring against Italy in the World Cup.

Jeeze we've screwed this up nicely.

The depressing thing is that we've actually got a core group of talented players at a decent pro level now (Reid, Wood, Rojas, Thomas, Smith etc) plus all the A League and South African based and random European-based players, but we're screwing our chances of really capitalising on it. Granted that FB and CM are still problem areas but I can't help but feel that the potential is there for a decent team playing reasonably attractive football. Somehow though we've ended up with amateur kids getting given the run around by AFC cannon fodder.

There is a facination from this administration on some players who have never proved themselves as stand-outs at ASB Premiership level yet they are considered the future of the full squad?

We see more and more bizarre decisions from the national body currently and it's incredibly frustrating.  As we head into a period where any news will be smothered by another sporting event our sport continues a long and proud tradition of being full of incompetent cods.

I think this is an important point.  I would love to know some of the thinking behind these selections.  The time for experimentation has to be over now.  Cynically I wonder whether there is some simple triangulation going on here - without ever playing our full team there is always a ready made excuse for poor results

Agree. I still want to know how Dyer and T-AH-W gets picked over Keat (assuming Keat has not stuck 2 fingers in the air)

I would also say, is Luke Adams and James Musa worse than Liam Higgins?

Have I read this right Jeremy Brockie has only scored one goal in 47 internationals, how is this

possible?? Its not like we play against teams in Europe, most his games would be against

south pacific sides wouldnt it?

How can he still be in the team.

Permalink Permalink

Brockie is the least of the questionable selections.  He at least proves himself from time to time in club football.  WHo else would you advocate?  Alex Rufer?

Please note.  Not a defamation of Alex Rufer who i think had the makings of a good defensive midfielder in the ASB Premiership  last season.

Nope definitely not Alex Ruther, but surly Brockie cant hold his place in the team either.
