Had a laugh at someone at work whose friend booked them to Melbourne and just assumed from their advertising they must be cheaper.... I called up the Air NZ website and we established that said friend had just cost them extra dollars, not to mention jeopardising their weekend.

Miles cheaper than everybody else for the flights I wanted.

You're talking to somebody who's flown on Air Zimbabwe, I can handle Jetstar!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

An now for something completely different.  Read Billy Harris's column in the Sunday Times bemoaning how the Nov 14 game tickets were too cheap and we should be paying gazillion dollars more.

Don't know the chap but I thought that was a bit mercenary and if that scenario had eventuated I probably wouldn't be going.  While it might be the biggest thing for NZ Football since '82, and I will pay the current family rate it is a marginal call given the amount of money I've already shelled out for football this season (and so far happy to do so).

Perhaps a bit more thought about who the supporter base might be (WN mostly = YF) and the current economic climate could be in order?

agree with your points- they have priced it right, maybe just a touch too low if anything.

if it had been up around the $80 mark as he suggested then peopel would be turned off.

By getting a strong home advantage and getting into the WC, the potential windfall is much, much higher

Entirely right Junior.  Much better to get 30,000 at $40 than 8,000 at $80 and thank god NZ football spotted this.  They could easily have looked at what is charged for Socceroos matches and just transferred it, but the game here has a different standing.

Billy Harris Sunday Times article link below, in the end paragraph.

I agree with you Junior82. Its all very well talking about positioning NZ Football where it rightly belongs by pricing the tickets at an equivalent level to a rugby test, and we would dearly love to see it having that higher profile. The risk is that strategy could fail badly, a small crowd turnout, and with little support, worse still a loss might backfire badly on NZFootball.
Without the likelihood of anyone making a huge investment in NZ Football in the near future, I think  NZFootball have chosen their pricing  strategy correctly.A sellout crowd for a football match would  be a powerful  message..and in these financial times, even with this ticket pricing, that's still not a given.

I am still worried, that we will struggle to sell out the stadium at 39 bucks to be honest.

A do or die World Cup playoff, that the whole planet is keeping an eye on, for $39!? People would happily have paid twice or three times that.

For one thing, the whole planet is NOT keeping an eye on this - you keep an eye on who has qualified in your own area, and whoever else qualifies is just 'there'.

There is not a chance I would've paid $120 for this game. $80 is a maybe, and $40 is a ticket already bought.

The man appears to be slightly blinkered to be honest.

cheers for that. Im sure we will get a crowd over 31k. November is an empty slot for sports, NPC will of wrapt up earlier, no international cricket. so Im positive we will have a great crowd. and for somthing different..(may need a new thread) but is everyone happyt for the name All Whites?? I actually prefer when they play in all black. I know all blacks is taken but yeah thats just my opinion. Would love to see them in all black with actual silver colored fern and silver numbers.

I'm paying nearly $600 AUD if you include the flights.
But yeah well priced NZF, it's atmosphere we need here not the cash.

I thought the prices would have been more expensive, but I think it makes sense to not charge more - even if it would make it more profitable. They need to think of the money made not just in this match, but in the long-run. If they can ensure a big crowd then surely that is going to increase their chances in the home leg. And obviously making it to the World Cup would be a good financial boost.

Wow I don't think I have ever heard the idea of Changing the Al Whites Strip or Name.

Could be a very interesting discussion point. I'm sure it wont get out of hand or anything.

I bought four tickets today. The ticketek lady I bought from said all of the covered seats on the ocean side of the stadium were sold (I didn't want covered anyway) and the tickets had been extremely popular. Here's hoping for a sellout!

When the boys do well in the first game, the tickets will be flying out of the Ticketek systam.
THINK POSITIVE,THINK POSITIVE,THINK POSITIVE.
Maybe Billy Harris doesn't want the game to be successful on and off teh field so they will be played in Auckland in the future???

$39 a ticket will bring people in from outside Wellington also, there is no way I could afford 2 tickets at $80 each plus airfares and accommodation.

Much as I liked him as a footballer Billy Harris has this one wildly wrong. Much better to price sensibly and get a good crowd behind the team and hopefully spur them on to a bigger prize than try to maximise revenue out of the event and risk having a small crowd.

Personally think adult prices are pitched about right but kids prices could have been a bit lower. Having said that the family pass helps out on that front.
