trinations, bledisloe, pretty much all the games the ab's play against SA and Aussie are covered...any northern hemisphere games ie end of yeqar would be classed friendlie I suppose.....never said putting a trophy up would sell the stadiums....just saying that football is really the only code that has proper friendlies....

In new Zealand at least. The only real competitive match we've had in nz in years has been that match against Bahrain,Since Australia left Oceania. Europe etc at least have competitive and appealing qualifiers.

The publics interest is naturally going to be turned off by matches like this, whereas at least all blacks friendlies are seen as a buildup to a competitive event

The all whites won't be interesting again for another 3 years,no matter how many friendlies NZF organize.

So I agree with you,was just pointing out that other sports do have friendlies too, they are just perceived differently by the public,as they are part of a buildup to a competition, whereas the all whites friendlies are not.Tegal2010-10-05 14:49:57

It's a friendly.

Clearly 60% of those who were at the Bahrain game agree too? That was the same price and it was a do or die World Cup qualifier, a huge difference.

I know what you are saying, but all of the events that you listed are competitive games.

For what its worth, I think All Blacks tickets are outrageously high, save for the $70 tickets which are just about ok.
we all know you are tighter than a camel's arse in a sandstorm

Is that right? Even though I am going to the game?

You mention rugby and cricket but I tend to think friendlies in football are more meaningless then those 'friendlies' you speak of in cricket and rugby. Based on what I've seen of those, and the many football friendlies I've seen, the rugby and cricket games are played in a far more competitive spirit than any football friendly.

Also, when these cricket and rugby friendlies are played, they are usually against the better teams in the world (mainly because there aren't that many in both sports!), not forgetting that NZ are 'not bad' at Rugby, and can be pretty good at cricket too.

Football/All Whites is a pretty new phenomenon.

I know quite a few people who were at the Bahrain game, but have no interest in this game at all. At the end of the day, there's nothing at stake (bar rankings) so it's not much of a surprise it's no sell out.
