haha good sign. I played the formation on Fifa too. Had to play China though because they were the best option. All red and asian. I'm looking forward to the 3 up front, but I'm not too sussed on the 2 midfield. Will probably be 3 with Bertos but still.

So is it listed anywhedre yet for live streams????

OMG.seriously lads,we're dealing with flesh and blood human beings right now, lined up in Manama to play their hearts out....not "football bots" or some such invention...and they're playing real live Bahrainians, with their  Royal Family right behind them, with a loud local crowd  and everything on the line.

You should leave it here in the gaming threads.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

so pleased we could get our best 11 out there on the field. without a doubt the greatest fielded all whites team in decades. lovin the nelsen, vicelich, sigmund back three; just the right amount of agression and experience. brown and lochhead helping them out and of course our fantastic strikers.

really feel that if the all whites can come through tonight with some away goals we will be a real chance on that night in november.

come on lads

Aaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!   NO NO NO NO NO,

Please tell me this is not true.  3-4-3 in an away WC qualifier in 40 degree heat. You have got to be joking. Actually it is a 4-3-3. Locky will play LB and Siggy RB. But the big call is playing 3 strikers.

What are they thinking of?  Australia played Bahrain away with only one striker and struggled to win(1-0 with a late goal) and Australia is a far better team than us.

3 up front....who is going to do the donkey work in midfield?  Brown and Elliot will be overrun. Bahrain have a very quick skillful midfield and we will be one player short in this area.

Defense will be the key, starting with the forwards putting pressure on the Bahrain back four. Killen and Fallon are good players but they are not fast players....even Smeltz would agree that pace is not his main assest. So in 40 degree heat we are expecting these three to track back and forth all game to help out the midfield.

Leo is our only creative mid....and he will be wide most of the game. Bahrain should and probably will shut him down coz that cuts out the feeding of of our big strikers. We will then have to revert to long ball stuff....which could work but its the defending thats got me worried.

McClinchly should be starting....he's a good fit young player who will run all day. Start with Fallon and then swap him for Killen later on.

Did we not learn anything from the Con Cup? We played 2 strikers and played positively against Spain and got dicked 0-5. Did they not watch the Spain Iraq game? Iraq played an extra defender...got 10 behind the ball on defense and only lost 0-1. When its 0-1 late in the game you have a chance to nick a goal and take a point.

I hope I'm wrong but this AW side now looks unbalanced. We have a lot of players of the same type.....the lack of pace is a major worry. Bahrain will welcome an open game, it plays into their strenghts. Playing a 433 will leave plenty of space for them. The game they don't want is a tough, physical armwrestle with our boys closing down the spaces and roughing them up in defense.

Hate to say it but I am picking a 1-3

What really worries me is Bertos' position in the formation. He is a natural attacker and one of our best weapons... I cannot see how making him play a defensive wingback role is going to work.

yep, as i said it did not work very well on FIFA, but if Ricki pushes him up a bit more, him and Smeltz can hopefully work some magic.

OK, so we don't have an international class right back. Let's just pretend the position doesn't exist then. Brilliant!

A scheme so cunning you could ...

I know, I know, its serious!

If Ricki pushes him up a bit more than we have a lop sided formation with a big hole on the right side. Which would also push our in form CB out to the wing where he is less effective.

I think it all could be mind games. Even Have them lineup in this formation but after one minute just switch it a bit. I dunno. Wish McGlinchey was starting instead of Fallon.
Don't get me wrong, I rate Fallon a lot, but I think we really should only be playiong 2 strikers at most for this leg. A few months ago we were pretty sure it would only be one striker. So to choose from Fallon and Killen, I think Killen will have an edge to start simply because Fallon off the bench would be so muchg more effective at confuzing their defenses in my opinion.

If we do play 3 up front, then expect to see McGlinchey on around the 65th, then Wood on with 15 to go.
Last player might end up being Scott or Mullign(Please no). Or wouldn't mind Barron on if needed

Bahrain's Brazilian coach Gustavo Zloccowick reckons they can beat us at home and hold out for the draw in NZ. We'll soon f***en well see about that Guga. Bahrain might be a desert but you're not coaching beach soccer any more pal.

likes the formation, expects mid's to be doing a sh*tload of work, all the pressure on the home team, thinks we can do it but it's goin to be tough.
Says we have to go into the game positively (hence 3 strikers) - you can't sitback and hope to defend for 90 minutes hoping for a draw

Annoyed that Lochead is starting over Mcglinchcy in this 343 formation.. Yahoo says it will be a 3 4 1 2 with Lochy and Bertos dropping as wing backs so could revert to a 5 3 2 1

Hmm. MASSIVE gamble playing up up froont and 3 att he back away from home

though..

I don't think we should get to hung p about the proposed formation. If things not looking great can always change it during the game - don't panic guys.
3 at the front is good imo - if Herbert started with 2 up front we would have people saying he's being too conservative so he can't win.

Hopefully we can grab an early goal and just smother their attacks.  Play rough, knock them off the ball.  Get under their skin.  They'll be under so much pressure they'll pour it all forward and we can try and grab a few more on the break.

Hope they implode on themselves under all the pressure.

I think people should stop worrying about the formation. We will end up with 4 at the back as if Lochhead wants to or not he will drift back into his natural position, same with Bertos.

The real concern for me is that if we play 3 strikers and so effectively one less midfielder (No McGlinchey) we will resort to long ball all day as we won't be able to feed good ball into them and just try to use Fallon's targetman status to win create chances. If Bertos is told to stay back this will make the situation even worse!

Ricki would start him as a striker for the Nix.
