I'm just hoping we can get through 70min without a red card. I've just been having some bad nightmares of losing Brownie or someone in the first half.

I'd prefer if we could go 90mins (+ stoppage time) without getting a red card...

May pull in to 4 Kings for it, depending on whether I have something to keep me occupied for the previous few hours.

Im feeling stressed about our midfield. I think we saw that Brown struggled at the international level at the CC, yet everyone seems to picking him to start. Maybe play Ivan instead??

Also can someone please explain to me how Andy Barron gets picked, playing NZFC and out of season when the likes of Oughton, Costa and even now Rojas are playing at much higher level And in the case of the two young lads they both can come on against some tired legs and inject some pace and flair whcih could be what we need. As for Oughton, I know he doesnt play too much in the states but its a much better league than the a league and he plays more than Mulligan for example and I just simply rate him much higher than some guys who are in there.

I Just want it so bad!!!11

I have a few things on earlier in the night but will watch the game there. Also debating whether to sleep a bit and get up at 2am and start on the beers.  I like the idea if getting up in the middle of the night to start a big night/day. If not, I'll be there from about 11pm. I'd rather not be too enthusiastic with the beers though, or I'll forget there's a game on and go home.  Ok I won't, but it wouldn't get the attnetion it deserves.

I have to agree with the thinker on most things although not vicelich in the midfield,

Barron ahead of Oughton?? Oughton is a machine who has a huge amount of experience playing in a professional environment. Barron is an amatuer, who has not had a competative game for a while, except for in the even lower standard of club football through winter.

If he is as good as Herbert rates him, why isn't he trying to make it professionally overseas, lower league in the uk or somewhere else in Europe. Last year i think he headed of two play the tier two football league in the states, but didn't play much (injured?).

I just cant see how he offers more.

yeah Dunc was hard done by -but at the end of the day maybe whoever it is isn't gonna get game time anyway. Maybe it's because Baz is in Wellie and can train with Ricki. Duncs been pretty injury ridden and isn't getting any younger.

Disappointed Duncan isn't there.  If they make SA 2010, he'd have to be in the 23, wouldn't he?

How do we know that Dunc isn't getting any younger?  With science changing all the time, I would like to hope that Herbs is speaking to a lot of the older players (including the players from '82) to see if any of them are getting any younger.  It would be criminal to find out after the qualifiers that Duncan Cole is now 22 and in the peak of fitness.

BARRON: Training a bit with a team he doesn't play for; in pre-season with an amateur club.

OUGHTON: Started last week against the Mexican champions Cruz Azul in US champion Columbus Crew's CONCACAF continental champions' league game in front of tens of thousands. (Columbus: US champions, leading their Conference again with play-offs looming and undefeated in more than twenty home games).

WARNING: Most sources such as NZ Football & the media have lead us to believe the First Leg in Manama kicks off at 4.30am NZ Time- however this appears to be wrong. Skywatch Magazine list it as a 3.30am kickoff.
Could it be that NZ Football have forgotten to take daylight saving into account?
Can anyone confirm the actual kickoff time so we know when to watch it/ set our recorders??????

Perhaps our friend Isa will confirm the KO time for us?
Maybe sky failed to take daylight saving into account?

The timing of the match in Bahrain is at 6:30 pm
Is equal  4:30 am for New Zealand ( summer time +13)

Sorted: It's Sky TV's schedule that's wrong. So, a warning to everyone about trusting the time given in the Skywatch magazine. Kickoff is 4.30am, not 3.30am. (Sky have the game finishing at 5.30am).
Incompetents!

I just checked this excellent site which tells you the current time in Manama, plus current temperature, weather conditions etc. plus a forecast for the next week- seems a hot week is in store with temps in the mid-thirties:  http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=15

When I looked at this a moment ago, it was 6.41 pm in Manama- and 4.41am here, i.e. close to kickoff time next Saturday in Manama!

Of course not, Fred will take up the number 10 when he signs a 3 year marquee deal.

Just got 12 tickets for the Wellington leg. ended up in aisle 30.  From what I could gather, tickets are selling fast. Most of the sunny side is getting rather fulll - except for high up and low down. However, the shady side of the ground has not had tickets relased to market yet.
I'm guessing around 10,000 may have been sold already.

All I can say is, don't hold back if you want a ticket....

The squad thread has been closed, so here I post a question for the anoraks:

If NZ beat Bahrain, and Kris Bright is in the 23 for South Africa, will this be the first time a son has followed his father's footsteps and been to a World Cup?

I doubt it, but I was unble to google a definite answer. There seem to be plenty of international fathers and sons, but I've been unable to discover if both played World Cups in each case.

Also, even if the Brights are not the first such pair, would they be the first father-son pair to appear in consecutive appearnces by their country?

Meh - have just found the answer. I finally found confirmation that Cesare Maldini in the 1962 Italian WC squad (the Maldinis and Cruyffs were my initial thoughts when I thought of this question)

Obviuosly, this doesn't still doesn't answer my second question, as despite playing forever, Paolo Maldini wasn't at the 1966 WC.

To edge out the Brights, the pair would probably need to come from a country with a qualfying record as poor as NZ's

BREAKING NEWS...

A scare for the All Whites ahead of next week's World Cup football qualifier against Bahrain.

Captain Ryan Nelsen is in doubt for Monday morning's English Premier League match between Blackburn and Arsenal in London

Club captain Nelsen suffered a heavy fall in the 2-1 win over Aston Villa and has a back problem

He faces a fitness test tonight.

If he doesn't play it could place his participation in the World Cup qualifier in doubt.

that would certainly help but someone like roger milla could have had a son old enough to play in the subsequent world cup

Injections!!!

He wont want to leave his potential world cup appearnce down to anyone other than himself.

He'll play!!!

Depends on the extent of the injuries, if he gets an injection now, it would be a quick fix but a longer recovery and may not be ready in time for the home leg match. But if he gets physio he may missed the first leg game but be ready for the home leg game.

Again it depends on the extent of the injury and where the injury is. I certainly hope he passes well and is up to scratch.

Ok I need help - I need to watch the game next Sunday but don't have sky. I'm 20 so that's not a problem but my cousins who are coming to the 2nd leg with me are keen to see the game too. But they are all 15 and below.
So how do I sort something out? Hoping there will definitely be a stream but is this confirmed? We really would prefer better quality and in English. So how do I get us 4 from upper hutt to somewhere we can all watch the game?

Or do I hope the stream will be there???
