Lets just not make any tackles in Honiara and we will be fine.

Tackles is not the issue. You could fart and an Island referee would give you a yellow card.

Even if I hypothetically knew who the new captain was I wouldn't be able to say so until 6:40pm tonight. You heard it hear first on TV news.

Has Ricki's dentist been talking to the Herald now?

Ha no. Becoming quite common that a journalist will use an embargoed release to say " the [media outlet] understands that [blah] will be confirm latter today.

Quiet news day. Great to see the All Whites in the media for some inane speculation about a reletively minor topic, it means the media are at least interested.

Although if they had any real knowledge they'd be speculating on the starting lineup and formation.

Yet Tony Smith still angles it around "Tommy Smith being in the dark" - thought it was weird after I read that Reid was to be announced captain.

possibly coming down for this game - is Air NZ the only airline that flies from Wellington to Dunedin?

Yes. I have a return ticket on Sunday I'm not going to use. If you can impersonate me, it's yours.

cannot see that working - you are significantly younger and better looking than me

What people have to remember is that there is only just over 100,000 people in Dunedin. Thats less than the population of the Hutt Valley/Wainui. 4000 people is 4% of their population. 4% of Wellingtons population to a game is about 14,000+, 4% of Aucklands population would give you a crowd of 60,000.
I am afraid that unless there is a big walk up crowd to this game then its going to be an embarassing 6000 or so. That combined with the poor Nix crowd will be the end of big football matches in Dunedin. You would think that Hamilton or Napier/Hastings could do better.
Tough for you Ahmed....but a small crowd at such an important game is a real slap in the face for NZ football.

Pretty sure Dunedin council is underwriting the game. Pretty attractive for the NZF budget if true.

Think you said this of the Phoenix game too? Technically I'm not sure that was entirely accurate for the Nix game. Of this one I am in the dark but our Council has been under so much scrutiny in recent years over the Stadium that I doubt they themselves are underwriting anything.

It's a shame that the crowd is going to be small, it's a wonderful stadium, but flights to get to Dunedin are expensive and there aren't many going there per day.  I would think that would be the end of having games down there.  They care more about oval ball, Aerosmith and Paul Simon.

If NZ Football didn't leave it to the last minute, I think a few more would have travelled down when they had cheap flights on Grabaseat.

I can't speak for anyone else, but if I were able to buy flights when they were $200 return, I would definitely be travelling down.

For the Nix game there were 35 I organised tickets for from Wellington. This time I know of less than 10 coming from Wellington. The short lead-in time meant more expensive flights.

If we win tomorrow I will do my best to lobby NZF to decide where to play the final qualifier ASAP. Apparently an estimated 15,000 visitors were in Wellington for the Bahrain match. People need time to make the plans and find affordable transport and accommodation options. As much as I would love this match to be in Wellington (if we qualify for it), if it is to be in Auckland at least let us know early.

FIFA is busy doing some internal reforms voting on Thursday (Zurich time). And I'm not sure if they still have FAX machines in Switzerland.

I know of a Footballsouth employee who booked tickets to Auckland for the Bahrain match before the venue was announced.

We have to qualify first, don't jinx it, we could appear over confident, New Caledonia deserve respect (ayyye!)

Yeah exactly.   I'm sure air nz did a near last minute deal for the game in Auckland, though may have been the Jamaica match. Can't remember now.

Moss out with a twisted knee according to Piney, so Spoonley has been called into the squad. Why does Ricki think that Spoonley is the third best keeper in the country at the moment when he can't even make the first XI for ACFC...

EDIT: Azevo just raised the point that a bunch of our keepers are in Fiji at the moment. Hmm.
