I reckon a speedy behind the lines player like Kosta suits this team better. Clearly they favour natrually not hoofing the ball into the box. These bunch are more passers.

But it's also a bit of a horses for courses selection. Tunisia don't press. They had only 30% possession against Croatia. They sit back and counter. We have time to build, and there is no real need for a hold up striker like Mata. This game will suit Waine more. Not sure how many changes the Tunisians have made from Croat game, but they are pretty bang average.

Still yes we are playing well very well, giving them very little. Rufer on pens for the next one! Would have been a massive confidence boost for the team if it had been converted. They know they should be a goal up, so the miss will sting.

In reply to NUFC:

Why should we comfortably be dominating. This is the same side that held Croatia to 0 - 0. No changes to their starting 11.

The play in much tougher confederate than we do.

I don't know how you came to this conclusion.

Are we watching the same game? Tunisia are absolutely sh!te.

We’ve had more of the ball but done nothing with it.

Sorry, I just expect more I suppose.

Decent half from us. Defense has been pretty good apart from one worrying lapse in and the guy was through in behind, better players would have scored. Unlucky penalty saved - Tunisia clearly did their homework going by that clip of the goalie getting video footage of likely Singh's previous penalites (great camerawork)? Again we are missing the killer instinct with our players favouring a pass into goal, instead of shooting. But Kosta looks good. Singh and Garbett look tired. But would still prefer to have them on for a bit longer. Not sure if Garbetts being played in his best position/role. Rufer has been great.

Sounds like one of Tunisian assistants told the keeper which side Singh favoured. The assistant getting a yellow for doing that.

This sums up Beazley ball tbh.

Absolute disgrace he was hired.
It's his fault that Singh couldn't score a penalty?

NZ football fans are so fudgeing boring

Where's Spelling Referee when you need him?

lol

These are exactly the games we should be comfortably dominating and scoring a few goals.

We won’t.
NZ football fans: All Whites need to play higher quality games against decent teams more often!
NZF: Okay, here you go (Egypt/Tunisia/Ireland/DRC/Australia/Sweden etc.)
All Whites: *unsurprisingly, get worse results than against shark teams*
NZ football fans: We must be winning these games, we should be comfortably dominating, Bazeley out, why can't we score more goals, I wish we had *average-ex-U20s-coach*, our development is screwed, we need to overhaul everything, etc.

I am watching, and we are the better team, but did I expect us to be - did anyone?

I think we should be happy with the fact we are dominating and looking to win, because against better opposition that doesn't happen very often.

On paper, if you were offered a draw against them prior to the tournament, you would have taken it. Yes you would of wanted a win, but you would of taken a draw.

Just another example of fickle NZ support - we complain when we lose by 4, we complain when we lose by 1 (despite improvement) and we complain when we draw.

We can't win every game (ironically I know we struggle to win 1) so expectations need to be realistic.

Yes I absolutely expected us to be the better team against Tunisia. We have quality young players.

But this is Baze Ball.

How can you "expect more"? based on what evidence?
Against Egypt we did well and lost 1-0, not really troubling them too much, against Tunisia we are again doing well and causing more issues for them, remove thedecent save and a sharke pen and we could be 2-0 up. Tunisia are not Egypt. This team has done very little against any team that has been higher ranked than us, we dominate and destroy teams lower than us, anyone near us or above has enough quality to stop us scoring  - whcih says to me thier defences are better drilled and have better quality.
We may have quality young players, but against similar quality players we still lack something.

Team will be desperate for the win. It's been 12 months (China at the ROF), and wins over top 50 teams are even rarer. Lets hope Sarpreet's miss isn't costly.

My reasons for expecting more- I looked at how we played across the park and thought about if we transferred that passing into the final 3rd, rather than Ricki era-esque crossing.

And a couple of times Kosta has had ball at feet and we’ve looked dangerous.

Tunisia playing a lot better this half - some nice short passing from them.

And again- Kosta ball at feet, 3 passes and almost a great chance.

For sure we are playing a better style up till that last 3rd, but expecting that to be translated into a win or goals is almost pointless. The qualty of defender is way hiugher than any Pacific team, the quality of keeper is way higher, our tactics really dont lend themselves to high scoring games, hwich is furstrating but it also means we may not concede a lot either.

This is how it's been for years and what most of us hoped would change with a new coach, sadly NZF went with the same old sharke!

Time for Baze to do some coaching and go get Johnathan Gould to give out the instructions to the lads coming on.

Why no subs from us? Tunisia's subs have greatly improved them.

Jaysus Bindon playing right winger with Old and Waine on the bench. Tunisia meanwhile playing their 4th and 5th subs.

Rufer turns beautifully in midfield but no one there to continue the attack.

First time checking this thread and I’m stunned how negative this thread is. Frustration at our lack of goals is warranted but this is by far the most I’ve bought into Bazeley’s idea of “the goals will come”. We’ve played a much better side off the park for the most part
