Hopefully the Samoa v Tahiti game which kicks off prior at 4pm, doesn't damage the FMG Waikato pitch much.

See that Mitch Cooper (ex Jets) is now with Vanuatu. That will strengthen them. Though these days he plays for lowly Bayside Argonauts in the Victorian State League Division 2 South-East.

No talk in this article of them resting any players today.

Having won their opening match against Samoa in front of home fans, Vanuatu know all too well what a boost that can give to a team, but midfielder Mitch Cooper is confident in his team’s ability to give New Zealand a real challenge.

“Chris Wood’s against one of our big names from our side, Brian Kaltak, so we are confident in our captain and his ability and what we can do and his experience. I think the main thing is just focusing on our individual jobs once we do that, we will be pretty strong as a collective as well. Some big names in there but at the end of the day its 11v11 and we will take that mentality in with us and go hard,” Cooper said.

Is our game kicking off at 7 or 7.30?

FIFA+ has coverage starting at 7:15, so I'd say kick off is at 7:30

Dry by kickoff 😀
If weather had been ok may have taken a run down to see the game, but it’s not great travelling in these conditions.

Will it be too wet for my dog to run onto the pitch?

Went to their training last night... took the oldest boy down who loved it and got everyone's (including the coach) bar Gillions signature on his ball.

It's been a while since I have been up that close to the lads, but man we are a big team. Just looks tiny on TV, but isn't actually that small. Looks very wirey but strong.

Things I noticed
  • Barbs training by himself and icing of the knee. Looked comfortable, so probably more of a precaution.
  • Payne sat out the last bit as well - so maybe carrying a little knock?
  • Crocombe is starting
Bindon looks a player, Rufer and Bell both the most vocal in the game situations, asking for the ball, telling players what to do etc, which I thought was a great dynamic - who has the inside to partner Stamenic??

Cool pic. In some countries in the world it's near impossible for young kids to get up & close to their national football team heroes.

NZF have today tweeted about Welly boys Garbett & Stamenic being at the 2009 Bahrain match as kids, and the impression it made on them.

Hopefully NZF can do their best to get the AWs back to NZ, as much as possible in the future. And yeah a visit down to the South Island is overdue.

cant see any reason why it wouldnt, raoin is expected to ease and there is no standing water on the pitch

Unless the pitch was actually deemed dangerous, 100% the game will go ahead.

With the tight scheduling of FIFA windows, it would be a nightmare to have the game postponed.

Like reading an AV article this week, with FIFA windows, AWs games in NZ have to be played Friday and Monday - due to the long travel distances for European based players. Even though the Monday game is always a hard sell with fans.

Wont be deemed dangerous, but the water will definately having an impact on play.
It'll be about which team has the skills to adapt better.

I feel like Rogerson starting isn't quite the buzz or has he been going alright for Auckland so far this season?

Kosta being rested was expected - but I'm glad to see they aren't risking him

Scored against the Roar, but has been a bit in Gillion's shadow on the other Auckland flank.

Rogerson did get a banger against Malaysia, and yeah Bazeley seems a fan.

Not convinced by Rogerson in the opening 10.

Beautiful hit from Garbs there though

All Whites don't always score from open play but when they do you can bet Matt Garbett is involved.

Who's the new bloke doing the commentry? I'm very familiar Glen-Watson and like listening to him, but who is the other guy? He's not very good.

I guess we're lucky here we didn't get the early kick off.

Chalk and cheese between conditions from only a few hours ago.

Cracking finish by Garbett there though. Hats off lad, that was quality.

For a second I thought it could have been one of the Between Two Beers fellas but it's Goran Paladin, I think. Used to host Kiwi Football Fix but is more utlitised by Sky Sport for covering odd bits & pieces for their NRL coverage nowadays.

What a goal for Vanuatu. What the fudge are we doing at the back?

No jump from Crocombe?

Looks the RSE workers have turned up. Good on them. Imagine quite a treat for them watching their team play in NZ, and now a goal to boot
