hang on, the Phoenix can't qualify for the finals? That's ridiculous. I thought that had been sorted for some reason.

That was my understanding too, but apparently not.

The 14-15 ASBP it was O-League (same with wanderers), 15-16 ASBP it is no finals. And yes, it is ridiculous.

A professional club entering a team into an amateur/semi-pro competition will always have limitations on numbers of fully pro players. So Nix in ASBP will always be a young side that changes regularly as kids finish school and head off to college etc.

If the WeeNix played in the finals series which is to find the the 2nd OFC team. It would make the final series pointless, and teams finishing 1 and 2 in the asb premimership would go to OFC championships as WeeNix can't go.

It does work better in a tournament format. As GD only goes over 3-6 games, compared to H2H going over 1-2 games. Even then I prefer GD for its simplicity.

But for a season long competition, GD is by far the best.

The final series decide the champion of the season, not only the 2nd team for the OFC Champions League. I don't understand why the WeeNix should be left out. If you just don't want them in the OCL then don't allow them but they should be able to participate in the finals.

This league is a joke you have two teams that will never win it (Southern/Weenix) and only one team that can win it because they have the Dollars. Andy Martin and his cohorts didn't go far enough when reforming this League. Boys the game in this country won't go ahead with one pro team NZF need to make positive moves with this league not just adding new teams its getting like the Super 12.15 17 just more teams adding to the problems the major one is uneven funding you can't have one team getting $60k trust funding and another getting $400k Andy Martin has a banking back ground and allows this to happen if ever a league needed a salary cap or some sort share funding its this one.

They actually had an interview with Andy (he does exist) where he confirmed it but said they had made a commitment to the players that there would be a training camp and couldn't change it. They then interviewed Glen Moss to see if the players would mind changing it and he said he would be very disapointed if there was a game against Russia that was turned down. I would have thought that game would be in Europe so the euro players would have been fine with it as well.

Probably had non refundable tickets to Hamilton Island that he tacked on to the end of the training camp.

What next in the saga of NZF shambles? Messi was eligible and wanted to play for us but we turned him down because we didn't have a shirt that would fit him, so he played for Argentina?

The piece say Hudson was involved. http://www.newshub.co.nz/sport/nz-football-rejecte...

I don't get how this is an either/or scenario. The game is in March. The camp is in May. Why can't we do both?

I'm guessing the cost of gettingn the team to Europe and the cost of the camp?

Why are we and our administrators not jumping at the chance to play decent opposition before WCQ/Confederation Cup Qualifiers kick off?.....

Oh, wait.

But Martin said there's been some ill-informed criticism and people closely associated with football know there have been positives.

These kinda statements piss me off. You have the power to inform. Stop with the business waffle speak. It wreaks of arrogance. You little peasants don't know anything.

I IMHO - very much doubt ACFC started n the ASB with anymore money from pokies than any other team  Franchise. They have a management team that spends hours and their own money to secure the funding needed, to over the years thy have competed.  The idea is for other franchises to stepup to compete. I doubt HBU has got to 2 in the table through bucket loads of money. Management and player hard work do's that.  TW did not bea ACFC twice last year because of money, it was hard work.

The fact that this is the reaction is interesting. No apology, no accepting of any blame for any of the high profile fudge ups, no attempt to engage with criticism other than referring to critics as "ill-informed" (without actually informing us), vague statements about positive things happening without even indicating what those might be.

I wonder what a psychiatrist would say about someone who demonstrated the following personality traits: lack of remorse/guilt, failure to learn from experiences, lying, blaming everyone but yourself when things go wrong, superficial charm, lack of empathy.

We might have had money issues as a result of Seatter- but we played a heck of a lot of football and some of it in Europe and as a result of that- the core of that group that played all that football made it to the world cup.

Now we have a bean counter and whatever coaching philosophy and we play games against Thailand C and lose them once every two years.

Man- playing against Russia would be a football dream for so many players...

WHAT THE FUCK!

""This wasn't about holidays and people leaving and internet access," said Martin. "The fact is we had enough time to do it on the day and couldn't do it on the day. The transfer instructions came through on the weekend and on the Tuesday after the Auckland Anniversary day the right person did the right things and tried to get it through the system. That's where it fell over. It wasn't anything to do with him not being available...the issue was he couldn't physically get it through.""

so its not that there was an unexpected roadblock like no internet connectivity, we had the time, we had the resources, we just couldn't do it.  NZF cant process a transfer request.

Sack the fudgeer.

His positives were participation is high (which it has always been) and the ASB Premiership is on TV (which no one is watching).
