completely inept performance.  the opposition were poor and we spent a lot of the game looking much the same.

over the next two games the emphasis needs to be put on ensuring that this team is well drilled and cohesive.  the potential is there and there are some good players on board, but they don't look like a team and some of the execution would leave a school kid ashamed.

I totally agree with what your saying here.
There are some talented players on board and they must surely be looking to get to the next level if we can even think about matching others let alone beat them.

if that's how you guys celebrate a win why the hell are you AWs supporters?! i don't get it - when was the last time the AWs played well in your guys' estimation? 3 -1 is 3 -1...

I'm happy enough with that result.  Their goal was classy and our defence shouldn't be criticized for letting it in, they should be congratulated for pulling off such a move.  Great to see Sigmund get a goal, but even better to see Nelsen playing for the All Whites against a Pacific nation.  In all honesty I was hoping for a much higher scoreline, however, we need to take into account the temperature and humidity there.

Let's hope we not only win by more in North Harbour, but we play more cohesively and we get a decent crowd up there.

Seriously though whats all this talk about how hard it is to play away?
New Caledonia is only a 2 hour flight from Auckland + Someone posted on here the weather was only 26 degrees, the crowd wasn't very vocal and the pitch looked perfect. So in my mind thats hardly a huge factor. I thought there where some positives to take especially Smeltz's performance but looking forward to the match against the Asian side, some work needs to be done.

Pearce had a good game, as did Jarrod Smith.

Think it needs to be mentioned, the referee was the epitome of poor.  Some dreadful decisions.  I don't like it when people try to explain away a performance by the ref, but every 50-50 decision went to New Caledonia, some clear fouls on us were awarded to them, and even a couple of throw-ins which should have gone our way were given to them.  When Smeltz scored his first goal I looked at the ref half expecting him to have done his utmost to find something wrong with it, and was relieved that he gave it.

Had to work last nite so only caiught up with the result this morning.

Well done lads.

Bloody hell some of you are miserable buggars, inept awful game etc etc.Well i sure hope The Phoenix can put in the same type of inept and awful performance it might mean we might win a game.We are through to the next stage of the WC i couldnt give  a stuff how ugly it looks,at times you have to wonder if some of you would accept a loss as long as we looked good doing it.

You need to understand we are delighted that we are in the Confederations Cup, as this is a World Class tournament and will give more of a profile and money to NZF. But there is nothing, absolutely nothing to sing home about in the performance!!! It simply wasnt of any standard at all and that is being honest about it.

I was impressed with Australias 2-1 win In Holland however...now that would be something to sing home about!!!

yeah but that's Australia - that's my point, we aren't that good yet! no point comparing ourselves to teams that are much better than us

of course it was a great result and the extra million dollars is just brill, but i cannot celebrate a performance like that.

we have been building towards the crunch world cup games for some time now and i don't see much of an improvement.

i'm looking forward to seeing what i think is a very strong new zealand side on paper perform well on wednesday.  we need to because performances like this won't cut it in asia

Yes It Was 30 Bucks Down At Westpac completley unreasonable I think that Auks only have to pay half the price could it be nz football wants the bigger crowd at their HQ

Thats just plain stupid.

NZ Football are in the sh*t when it comes to $, there not going to sacrifice that just so they can have a bigger crowd in Auckland......

3-1 is a great result.

Gangsta: the game only costs X number of dollars to have. if they have a bigger crowd at a low price then the profit per person will be smaller but the overall profit may be the same as one with a small but higher paying crowd.

i have a few theories on the more expensive welly game...
1) NZF was trying to exploit the loyal football fans in the capital
or
2) they've learnt their lesson

im gunna assume its the latter

or 3) The costs they were hit with for the Stadium were dearer than the Auckland equivalents

There is every chance of that.  NHS used to be the cheapest stadium in the A-League by some margin and right now they will do anything to get people in there.
