great squad

Good squad. Interesting to see Jeremy Brockie omitted from the wider squad after his showing in the olympics and olympic build up i thought (that is if he was even in the initial squad to start with)

Good squad. Will be interesting to see if any of the overseas players pull out with a "injury"?

Ive spoken with Ryan since the Olympics as has Ricki and hes over the injury thats kept him out of the campaign so far and looking forward to getting back in the environment.

Must be over the all the sl*gging off as well

Good point actually, and with only 3 strikers named in that squad it does seem a little strange. I hope Brockie and Ricki haven't fallen out, I would have liked to see him named.

That is one strong squad.  If only Ivan Vicelich was in it (I know he's retired, but he's still good) as well as Jeremy Brockie.

Would like to have seen Peverly names in the squad, i would of thought he was the logical long term replacement for Vicelich.

Where is Brockie, I'd take him any day over Pearce.  And as for Pevs I think more work is required there.

In the NZFC Pearce showed out more than Brockie.... that was the last time they played comparable levels.

Agreed HN I think it was night and day between him and Brockie.

I thought that Jeremy Brockie might have a edge over Jeremy Christie but it's not the case obviously.

Also NZ Soccer have announced that it will cost adults 15$ to down to the game, im sure we paid more at RoF for the Vanvatu game.

Meaning, Auckland will probably get a better crowd and all of a sudden it will be woo hoo we love Auckland.

Everyone know RoF is the home of football in NZ!

I say tackle him in the face.

great squad, nelsen will strengthen our defence and give others the confidence in central midfield elliot will be an anchor and james can do what he has been doing at tampere providing the creative platform for bertos and  the duo of killen and smeltz, maybe we will start to see  passing football that wasnt there at the olympics, about time the best players  were on the pitch

Haha yeah you will see a passing game cause they are playing against absolute crap teams who could barely beat winter league teams in New Zealand not Brazil, Belgium and China pal. Some people just dont understand and never will....

I think you will recall when we played Brazil and lost 4 - 0 before the world cup we didn't play long ball.

In fact we actually tried to play and had a couple good moments. Different coach, different views on the best way to garner respectable results.

Anyone heard if Elliot is getting a contract anywhere - I heard a rumour about Hull but nothing for a while

yep, I heard that too, from a 'reliable source'

not sure if we'd still be after him having secured Boateng, Halmosi and Geovanni

if anything we'd be after another centre back and a striker

- the squad looks pretty sound, hopefully they'll all be available at the time and get soem minutes on the park together before the anticipated playoff v  whichever Asian side

I would have liked to see the inclusion of Peverly too.  I think that they should give Smith a shot at a wide midfield role.  He is very creative and will look to assist others, and he is a nippy young fella too!
Riki should definitly be looking to include a few of the players from the olympics in the squad i.e. Peverly (was our best player at the tournament), Henderson (He might not be able to come because of uni commitments but it would give him confidence - he did well in the 1st game) and even the likes of Aaron Scott.

We have got to keep the youth coming through.

It's a bit late for this I know, but thankfully they've seen sense at last and dropped Boukenooghe. I'd've included Brockie for Christie, I mean we are playing New Caledonia, how many midfielders do we really need?

Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

I don't know about the Boukenooghe call to be honest... whilst he is a midfiielder, he is very versitile and is decent both in defence and attack and is a pro at a decent level, but I do agree with your call about plodder and Brockie

yea good squad. i agree with the ideas of feedback by looking to perhaps add some young guys from the olympic team to the squad for some experience. Brockie has been there before but with his showing in the olympic build up and other promising performances should feel unlucky. peverly is another quality player who as a holding midfielder is a great long and short passer of the ball. also a fan of henderson as a good player. playing with brockie and pevs over last national league they i believe can step up and smithy as a winger would be a good experiment wiith his short time at hb he created alot for us. not neccessarily a out and out goal scorer.
in saying this it can be hard to push out the more proven and established members in the team. glad to see everyone available for a change

I am looking forward to this after last night. Massive football matches for NZ, with a lot riding , World cup play offs and Confed Cup

TVNZ has the rights to the qualifying campaign - so they better be televising the away fixture!

Tim Brown's suspended from the first game after his stupid sending off against Vanuatu in Wellington.

Good to see Sky have coverage of the away match - just have to get the football club to show it now!  Ah, there will probably be some Rugby that people would rather watch.

No.

I'm a football fan, I live 2 minutes drive from the stadium in Albany and if it wasn't for this forum would have no idea that it was on.

So the odds a general member of the public knows, is almost zero.
