Any idea why Chris James isn't starting, shouldn't he be ahead of Pearce given that he's one of our few overseas pros and that he has apparently been in good form for his club?

I am sure he will come on.

My thinking behind Pearce starting is that Ricki Herbert wants to see what he's got as a potential future signing for the Phoenix, he's been training with the Nix

Did anyone find an online source for those of us outside NZ? I've got two New Caledonian radio stations playing music, not football at the moment, OFC's website had live text for Fiji -Vanuatu, but as yet nothing for this game, nothing on Fifa.com,....

Man see that defensive mix up? almost a goal after 30 seconds!

With crosses like that maybe Smeltz should be on the wing for the NIX!  Can cross better than our wingers!

Sorry, OFC now has text updates

Any word on how serious Leo's injury is?
Permalink Permalink
over 17 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
hehe - looks like OFC are relying on TV too - nothing up since first minute.
They just mention Leo's injury as a groin injury

1' - We are underway here in New Caledonia with Shane Smeltz breaking down the right causing New Caledonia problems early on

5' - New Caledonia earn a corner on the right, but is cleared by NZ captain Ryan Nelsen.

9' - NZ earn freekick outside the box which David Mulligan takes but is cleared by the New Caledonia defense

12' - Jarrod Smith fires a shot wide for New Zealand after a clever touch inside the box

Any updates on the match? Any online sources/radio stations broadcasting it for those of us in Australia or elsewhere overseas?

We are all over them, they do look to have good technical skills but not much else

According to OFC:
20' - New Zealand have taken control of the match and look comfortable with their one goal lead.

Permalink Permalink
over 17 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
They were creating chances early with some decent buildup play but right now they're barely getting a touch except for the keeper. We lost concentration after the goal for a couple of minutes as well, started trying to play long balls that barely left the ground (where else have we been seeing that?)

Added to that:
26' - New Caledonia are struggling to get out of their own half

sounds promising... though I don't want to speak too early

I thought this game might be the perfect opportunity for Lochy to find some form, as of yet doesn't look like happening

who has the better match day squad... the Phoenix(last weeks game) or the All Whites?

Curious what people think

He's not that bad, he's said some smart things, particularly before the game but he has no confidence and I'd like to see some of the best commentators in the world do well with De Jong beside them.

How near to knowing the '5th Asian side' is NZ football? Likely contenders?

I dont think we will know to well in to next year, though it will be narrowed down to 2 by midyear i guess?

Unfortunately, it's almost certainly the Phoenix. Would be nice to think we could muster a stronger national side than our strongest club side, but I'd say most of the Aussies and imports in the Phoenix are stronger than their All White counterparts.

Nelsen, Killen (when fit) and possibly Elliot, Oughton and Boyens are the only current All Whites stronger than their Phoenix counterparts.

EDIT: Having listed all of those it might actually be a pretty tight match. I'd still have my money on the Nix tho.

43' - Scrappy passage of play with neither side able to penetrate behind the backlines.

I laughed.
