Well f**k who else is going to slot in there? Rickis already stated days ago that EVERYONE was getting game time anyway...

Would have liked to see Boxall start... I just don't think Boyens is international quality.

I think starting with experience is far more imporatant.

I'm glad to see Mulligan starting. This is his last chance.

How the heck does Mulligan get a start? sheesh.

Because other than Vicelich (who I would have played there) we don't have another defensive midfielder in the squad.
Mulligan is quality in midfield, piss poor at right back. Did not get a fair chance at the nix but that debate has been heard.

Guess this is why he's spent most of his professional career in midfield, rathern than right back...

Dear Lord.

two things.3-4-3? 4-4-2 would have been much better. Lochhead is not a midfielder. You could have dropped him back and moved Smith central and allowed yourself an two attacking winger of the Brockie/Rojas/Barbourouses trio. Picked 2 strikers and then mixed from there.
There is angst for Mulligan but there isn't any other options unless you play Boyens and Smith central, Vicelich in the middle with the young Fitzgerald at RB.

Well Ricki did say that due to limited time together he would be using the same system as in previous games. Lochhead played in that wing back role in all the games he has played since the All Whites used this system, so I don't think it should be too much of an issue, plus Tommy will stay back and push wider when we have possession but compress when we don't so he is pretty central.

More of an issue is the lack of strength at RB which probably necessitated a move to this formation (plus the obvious strength in certain positions - CB, ST). I would expect to see a different system used when the subs come on, a back four with Ricki having a look at Fitzgerald?
Would like to see finish the game:
               Moss
Fitz    Boxall/Vicelich/Smith (2 of 3) Lochhead/Smith
               Mulligan/Vicelich
       McGlinchey       Clapham
Kosta                            Marco
           Smetlz/Killen/Wood (1 of 3)Bullion2011-03-25 14:15:50

Now there's two words I never thought I'd see in the same sentence

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I'm actually really looking forward to this, the last football game to watch for at least 6 months.

we really need to win this game, losing Nelsen puts us on the back foot, but i think we still got the team to do it. China are not that strong, but our win record is not that great historically, this is a game we need to take.

Not sure what China are doing, but in fifa.com they have four games booked in 5 days. So sounds like they could be doing a bit of player and formation/experiments. I guess this should work in our favour?

China PR - New Zealand 25/03/2011 Wuhan Friendly Kosta Rica - China PR 26/03/2011 San Jose Friendly Korea Republic - China PR 27/03/2011 Ulsan Friendly China PR - Honduras 29/03/2011

Here's some more craziness.

China is playing three matches.

vz NZ and Honduras in Wuhan, and vs Kosta Rica in San Jose.

There are two squads - one for Wuhan (the stronger squad) and one for Kosta Rica.  However the head coach (G**) will be at the Kosta Rican game.

From Four Kings Facebook....

FRIDAY! Dont fight over the remote! Come down to Four Kings where we'll be showing The Canes in Melbourne, Black Caps in the quarter finals of the world cup AND the All Whites playing China. Huge night of sport! Come down to NZ's best sports bar to catch all the action!

Li WeiFeng = China's Muscat, but not that much of a c***, his tackles are comparable though.

Li Weifeng (central defender), the veteran of the team (32) has had a history of ill-discipline.  Seemed to like collecting red cards for dangerous tackles (maybe learned from Oz coaches?).  However he redeemed himself when he signed for the Suwon Bluewings in 2009 and 2010 (nicknamed the great wall of China).  Currently playing for Tianjin Teda.

Will be interesting to see how he reacts to the physical style we take...

Also there is interest in the pairing of old hand Li Weifeng with the young Du Wei at centre back (maybe a new combination since Li has been out of the national side for a few years).  No one is sure how well they will work together.. Maybe a North-Musa combo?

Hao Junmin, Feng Renliang and Wang Song are three names on the bench.

Apparently a FORMER muscat*.

Any idea how he went last season at Tianjin?

* Got sent off in his first game for Suwon but thereafter learned to contain himself and helped them to a title or the finals.  The Korean fans would chant for him in Mandarin.

Brilliant. Although not sure if I go along with the commentators though. Fred makes more sense. Just.

As someone posted earlier, really looking forward to this. Gee, it's good to be measuring ourselves up against Asian teams. This is where the benchmark's at.

I know, I know, its serious!

radio sport is listing this game on their website on their live commentary schedule - presumably only via internet as i would think the cricket would be on the radio.

always a good option when trying to follow on the net but streaming video is too poor (or if you have to appear to be doing work like me)
