The best thing about this result is that it will boost Aussie fans (already over inflated) thoughts on their chances at the WC.

I was just watching Aussie Sky News and that is exactly the angle they took! The win did lead their sports news, which was cool, but the angle was how New Zealand had done Australia a favour by beating Serbia, which I don't quite understand!

They think that if we can beat them, then they can easily. Of course we now know whats going to happen, Australia will lose to Serbia

It can also be useful for preventing fruitless trips to the lounge on cold mornings (although not in this case)
And porn.

wow! what a result, i saw livescore and had to create an account here to say congrats. to be brutally honest the all the whites are really exceeding my expectations..
don't talk too much about the aussies in here, i find the aus - nz rivalry a bit dumb having grown up in both countries.
but yeah, c'mon all whites!

I think in the WC proper with best starting sides and the world cup to play for we'll give up more goals - quick players getting in behind the back three

but still a great result, guys are doing the business and rickis got them organised and calm

loving the way we are playing as positive as we can and creating more than a few chances

get a goal up against our lesser pool opponents and we'll be a fair chance to pinch a WC win (or two) lol

New Zealand without Brown (wellington Phoenix) Michael McGlinchey (Central Coast Mariners) and Chris Killen (Boro)

missing their best attacking threat, scoring threat from the midfeild, skill

Not to mention two of our first choice back three were rested as well

Which illustrates just how well smith and reid went. Reid gave away a few fouls lunging in but overall i was really impressed with both of the lads - they can certainly deliver a long ball too which suits us great

I wasn't confident about our formation and game plan against bahrain, and afterward i still thought it wouldnt stand up against higher quality sides. But the last two games have been a real milestone for us i think. The lads are well believing in themselves and their ability to play at the highest level

I'm gettin so fricken excited

Fallon threw out a few nasty elbows.  I don't want him to calm down, but I don't want him to look like a dirty player either.

I think aussies are justified in being happy about this result.  If they beat Italy, for example, you all know we'd be thinking about our chances!

true Fallon might need to be a bit careful, but their lad who came on up front in about 60th min was a niggly dirty bastard , e.g. when clipped elliot's ankles and clattered the Admiral

"Keeper Mark Paston, out so long for a broken leg, made several smart saves - the best a glance off Nelsen's outstretched leg to avoid an own goal. He looks to be carrying his brilliance against Bahrain through to the World Cup campaign."

Just remembered this - Nelsen came so, SO close to getting a goal.  That would have been a hell of a disaster if he did.

Same. thought he had a great game, but does need to watch that could easily pick up a red in a world cup match if a ref saw it as intentional.

What a result!

Probably didn't get better for WeeMac because they were singing poi-e and crowded house on the bus after the game.

So nobody else noticed the terrible camera-work where you frequently couldn't see the ball?

Nearly had a heart-attack when Nelsen went for glory.

I watched the game online- with an english commentator. I thought it put this great win in perspective when he spoke of the "journey man" serb player- (not sure who it was) who had played for Paris St Germaine, Ajax, and Hertha Berlin. and our "star" players are from Plymouth, Ipswich, Phoenix etc. Excellent!

From Moss's blog

"As the traditional victory song Slice of Heaven was blasted through the sheds, the substitute players were put through their paces for an hour to make sure everyone is fit and on the same level"

I like this, feet on the ground

Vicelich would be next in line to cover the backs with Siggy behind him you'd think.  Seamonster's just too slow.

I don't like to dampen the mood, but does anybody else think that Lochie is getting found out at this level and exposing Pasty? I hope he doesn't get game time in S.A. Nice bloke, dedicated footballer and like him playing for the Phoenix, but he is  just not able to play at this level.

I thought he played quite well, he got exposed a couple times near the end, but i think that was probably partly down to being exhausted.

Great game. Worth staying up for. Serbia brought it in second half and All whites repelled them. Good news coverage whcih is really cool. Go for it lads and make FIFA take note - Kiwis play football too.

Should've been playing Home Again or some Crowded House. Dave Dobbyn is horrid.

Rory getting into it.

The ABs are such protected pansies these days that a lot of people don't want anything to do with them.

That's what happens when you get too big for your boots and lose accessibility.

The All Whites are approachable and accessible but to be fair that's more likely a product of the relatively low profile of the sport more than anything. I think most minority sports in NZ know how to treat their fans. And it is harder to manage huge fan bases like the ABs have.

Loving the NZ football attitude and letting us into the team's changing rooms!

The reason we don't get into the ABs dressing room is that they're actually all closet homosexuals.

LOL

Can anyone tell me what the hell this random green/red/yellow striped flag is doing above the NZ Flag at the stadium this morning? I can't even pin it to the nation it belongs to.

Seen on the end of this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ip980xXol8

Also LOL at some photo caption I saw showing someone with a NZ flag being described as the "sole New Zealand supporter " at the ground. I presume that David Bain banner wasn't made by a Serb LOL

watched the game here in Melbourne on Setanta sports,.....commentary was a bit average - An English commentator who i hvaent heard of before, who told us that Brockie played for Newcastle Jets in New Zealand....

Also mentioned our Rochadale & Barnsley players compared to Vidic who has a champions league medal LOL!!!

Superb performance  by the team. Defended well worked hard.
Thought Reid gave away a few silly free kicks but he had a super game...

I'm really looking forward to the Slovakia match. Its a shame that they will have seen this performance. No chance that they will underestimate us now....
