Boxall will become a starting Centre back.  He's no wingback.

Apparently NZ doesn't have any wingbacks. Well, Lochy. That's it.

Maybe, but didn't he fill that role in 2nd half against China - or was that Fitzgerald? can't quite recall.

I know, I know, its serious!

Would you be happy coming off the pine to try and fix a 0-3 scoreline?

Yip another one of rickis clangers.  We'd still be in the game now if he'd done what most other managers do.

No, no, don't you understand, everything that goes wrong is Ricki's fault. And everything that goes right is Ryan Nelsen's fault. Don't you read the Fairfax press?

He's carrying a knock so wasn't really in-line for a start.

Is Ricki developing a bald spot?
Permalink Permalink

Our players looked a little slow throughout the game, but as soon as the fulltime whistle went they were all sprinting around trying to swap their shirts with the mexican players...looked a little embarrassing...lol

If we build it, they will come...

one final comment: Ricki can you please stop playing players out of position.  We consistently look crap when you do that (poor Boxall and Fitzgerald tonight, other notables in the recent past inc. Reid).

Yes he is. At left and right full back.

Its no longer a problem.

I am not sure what we were missing today. Well actually, the answer is. we were just playing a top class side. It will be a better game for us against Aussie.

If we build it, they will come...

Presumably against Aussie Ricki will not be "experimenting". Anyone think Mully did enough to get a start?

I would think so and Boyens and Elliot I would hope based on this have played themselves on to the subs bench. I am assuming that Rojas will be available as well?

nope, he'll never do enough to gain a start...

We'll do much better against Aus. Mexico are a better side, not to mention they are not fielding a lot of their better players either. Also, Rojas is back :D

Biggest difference in the second half was Ben Sigmund.

I particularly enjoyed seeing the Mexican fans doing a Kiwi Wave........

Mully was the best wingback we had on the field, that probably counts for something...

I only saw the first 50 mins so missed a lot to be fair, and our best moments.

I thought ou of the three CB's the worst was Vicelich easily, he just seemed far to slow to keep up with anything.

The biggest let down though was the middle of the park. Brown was completely awol, i didn't see him make a single pass or tackle and Elliott's distribution was not up to his usual standard.

Wood and Barbs worked hard up front, but no real sight of Smeltz.

Against possession teams with skillfull attacking wide players the 3 - 4 - 3 is not ideal. We get caught out far too much. Boxall is never going to be a wing back, he's a mountain of a man physically and should be CB and thats it.

Sounds like our best player was Mulligan going by the comments. He has done alright in the last couple of All White games, regular football for Auckland must be doing him some good.

Just back from the game, have to agree with most of the comments, dire 1st half, much improved 2nd half, good to see siggy fired up. maybe about 50 of us in the nz supporters area, not a lot for us to cheer about, i think I counted 5 "shots" on goal -anyway thanks a lot Geoff for organising it!

Killen and Sigmund made a big difference. Mulligan can pass, but is marginal on the defence.

The first half was so frustrating- the players couldn't pass the ball to each other or demonstrated an A-league or worse level of technique.

In the first half every attack was sabotaged. I remember a great cross field pass from Elliot and the player couldn't bring it down. time and time again we'd get the ball only to be unable to find the player in white.

Forget about the first half, second haf okay, when the defense gets their together, Moss can do his job, we are strong on keepers.

Ricki just on Radio Sport. Says Reid, Elliott and Killen injured.
May consider calling in more players to cover for the Oz game.

Reid - sore foot?
Elliot - dislocated hip?
Killen - sore shin?
