According to a pronunciation guide, the spanish version of Rojas is pronounced

ROW-hass
hass - 'a' is pronounced as 'a' in CAR

So if it is supposed to be something weird, he will have to forgive us for using the normal version for all these years.

Our TV coverage is like a muppet show - so embarrassing - everyone knows its ROE-hahs. View of Jamaica was so patronising.

I know they speak Spanish in Chile, but it is a dialect, Chilean Spanish, not European Spanish....I'm not surprised if the pronounciation is a bit different.

The pronouciation is slightly different and unfortunately, Dewhurst is actually correct.*cough choak splutter* Rock ass it is.

I thought maybe they were corrected. Because they used to say 'Ro-haas'

According to one of my customers (who is Spanish) it is pronounced Roe-hahs.

I work with a Chilean who is a family friend of Roja's family and he pronounces it Roe-hahs. He will be annoyed at the commentary.

How long will it be until Brown is dropped from the starting 11 for New Zealand to allow the Keat and McG show to begin.

McG, is playing better in the A -League and Keat is playing in a higher comp... not getting a huge amount of game time admittedly, but look at who he is rubbing shoulders with (and he should get more time this year / played well towards the close / good pre season to date).

Dissapointed to have lost... but based on the comments, the players who stood out, were all the young guns and this is exciting.

It's entirely possible Dewhurst is still wrong even if hew was corrected.

The Spanish spoken in Chile is distinctively accented and quite unlike that of neighbouring South American countries because final syllables and "s" sounds are dropped, and some consonants have a soft pronunciation. Accent varies only very slightly from north to south; more noticeable are the small differences in accent based on social class or whether one lives in the city or the country. That the Chilean population was largely formed in a small section at the center of the country and then migrated in modest numbers to the north and south helps explain this relative lack of differentiation, which was maintained by the national reach of radio, and now television, which also helps to diffuse and homogenize colloquial expressions.

Esteban Rojas -- ehs-TAY-bahn ROH-hahs
Pablo Rojas -- PAHB-loh ROH-hahs

I still think Dewhurst was badly over exaggerating the 'j'. And finished with "hass" when it should be "hahs"

Row-has did some very good things last night. He is still a little rough around the edges but has amazing raw talent. If he plays like this at the Olympics he will be in Europe next season. Not  a top tier club but certainly some Div 2 clubs would have a look at him.

I have forgiven him for buggering off to Victory and I would not boo him again. He's a young kid with great talent and I look forward to following his career.

Promising signs out there last night, and no shame in losing to a team which has been playing together and training together for weeks. The main points I took from that game were:

- Ditch the back 3. Better to have players out of position (Smith and/or Reid) in a back 4 than to give the opposition that much space out wide.

- Rockarse was great, and if he develops better judgement about when to take players on he will be immense.

- Wood up front with 3 creative players (Rockarse, Kosta, WeeMac) around him is a recipe for fun.

- Brockie was awful, especially in the 2nd half. He also had a great chance to tee up an unmarked Chris Wood on the edge of the area but instead chose to shoot on his weaker foot from a wide angle. Selfish prick.

- Tommy Smith could play midfield if we ever need him too. Useful to know.

- The refereeing was shocking. If thats the best OFC can come up with then they need to invest in some ref training.

- We should have won but didn't. Still, a 5 goal match on a balmy Auckland evening, with 15,000 on hand despite it being a Wednesday, qualifies as a success. Good job NZF for arranging it, and Ricki, the AWs, and the Reggae Boyz for making it an entertaining evening

Ditch the back 3. Better to have players out of position (Smith and/or Reid) in a back 4 than to give the opposition that much space out wide

three at the back against a team that has fast wingers like that is mind boggling and shows Herbert's real weakness, his lack of ability to change tactics. From the get go they overlapped our wing backs and lobbed the ball down the wings to their fast wingers. If the wing backs had of started playing deep to defend, the formation is suddenly out of whack with 5 defenders and hardly any midfield which explains, the lack of play/options in the middle of the park for mcglinchy to play around with. But say they didn't score that first goal and our wing-backs had of stayed deep Ricky's nil all draw tactic would have been reality. Once they scored the first/second goal (Ricky didn't seem to learn) you would have thought Ricky would have adapted the strategy to a 4-3-3/4-4-2. The minute our wing-backs stopped defending to help build up play for our massive strike force, the flood-gates opened up.

Also when Chris Wood and Killen are up front we certainly don't need Brown up there. Last night made me think his time is over.

I think it is hard for Herbert to change structure overnight (that is literally how long he had players). If we can find a right back I think our structure will change when Herbert has more than a day with the squad. For these one off games it is just not feasible to get a new structure sorted IMO.

Completely agree with the bolded part, and I did think we would switch to 4-4-2 when Killen came on.aitkenmike2012-03-01 19:10:55

Why is it that White Noise was back behind the goal  ?? it would have been better to have had them in one of the main stands and to get everyone else involved around them. Could see them trying hard but it looked a bit pathetic to be honest, one little section making a noise that could hardly be heard elsewhere. Bad planning

They tried doing that at the Honduras game, and WN were yelled at and abused by people telling us to "sit down and be quiet" (because they couldn't hear the ball being kicked?) So we ended up moving behind the goals of our own free will. We didn't get any bad reactions at the Jamaica game, apart from the brief argument with the drum-playing fellows and of course "Jesus".

Sometimes I wonder whether people ain't happy unless they've got something to complain about.

Yeah it doesn't work if you want the white nose zone in the middle of the stadium. To many people wanting to sit down.
Being in the White Noise zone sounded alright.

I had good fun having a arguement with one of those drummers. He really didn't have a foot to stand on especially since he was wearing a french shirt

As soon as the Drummers started the chants disappeared

Because people here don't know how to sing in tune with the drumming. And they were belting out some standards you'd hear in a lot of stadiums around Europe.

People here in general don't know how to chant. Especially in Auckland. How often were us at the front doing a chant and the ones at the back always chanting All whites All Whites

Well, yeah, there's that too. The other problem is that when in the front section, the sound doesn't carry very well higher up, so people further back have trouble hearing what's being chanted, and even if they do, end up chanting out of time (this is also commonly seen in the YF zone too).

I agree, Good night though. I especially love the chant that you guys sing some thing along the lines of " I can't wait to get out of this place " Classic

Didn't mind it at all at Mt Smart as we were pretty close to the game.  In the AWs gaem in adeliade we were in a similar place but another 30m back from the ground, so you couldn't see crap all. lack of roof doesn't help the sound either.

Well to be fair they shouldn't need to do shit. Why do they need to plan everything? Why cant the crowd just get into it regardless? Answer: Auckland.
