Probably meant "Hello Kitty" or "Doraemon" rather than "Mickey Mouse".

I would question taking both Elliot and Vicelich. Take one of them as a senior elder for the squad but Ricki knows what they offer so you don't need both of them.

Leaves us pretty light in midfield though.

One of them plus Brown, McGlinchey and Plodder.

Surely you wouldn't have both of them on the park at the same time in these games?

By picking Fitzgerald and Rowe would it suggest a change in formation away from the back 3?

What sort of a player is Craig Henderson? Does he play central? Atacking, defensive? To be honest and this sounds terrible but I'm pretty happy plodder won't be going. IMO McGlinchy should be starting ahead of all of them.

Christie is injured. They named an extended squad, which will have five U-20 players added, so they can keep the same squad throughout the year. Which is why the injured guys were also named. I don't think it suggests a change in formation, it's just a matter of having players in positions we lack depth. Vicelich may not make it, but he was great at the world cup. Elliott has been one of the top AW in the past year. Has to be there.

Is there anyone 'of note' who has missed selection?

No.
Steven Old, Dan Keat, James Musa, Sean Lovemore, Jacob Spoonley were all unlikely at best.
Throw in the retired duo of Andy Barron and James Bannatyne. So no-one of 'note'. remember Christie, Bertos and Paston are injured.Luis Garcia2011-03-09 12:16:25

He's an academy player. Right-back. Apparently in NZ U-20s

Maybe they feel it is better for him to stay with the Galaxy than disrupt that at this stage?

Yeh was looking for his name with our aging midfield...

Left. Right back still a problem.

I agree with hardnews on this one

One or both should have gone

I dont really see the logic in taking boxall (where we have lots of centrebacks) and not taking Keat

What was the chance though, of him playing for Chile, I never saw it as a real threat.
Chile have loads of players with agility and technical ability already under their noses.

Anyone want to have a stab at a line-up for China game? Or who of the 8 will be cut to make the 22

You've missed 2B's snipe at another member of this forum - the point is these friendlies don't lock Marco in for the All Whites.

I am assuming this first group of players will be in the 22
Glen MOSS (Gold Coast United, Australia 16/0)
Jake GLEESON (Portland Timbers, USA 0/0)
Andrew BOYENS (Chivas, USA 16/0)
Tony LOCHHEAD (Wellington Phoenix 33/0)
Ryan NELSEN (Blackburn Rovers, ENG 45/9)
Winston REID (West Ham, ENG 8/1)
Ben SIGMUND (Wellington Phoenix 16/1)
Tommy SMITH (Ipswich Town, ENG 7/0)
Jeremy BROCKIE (Newcastle Jets, AUS 21/0)
Tim BROWN (Wellington Phoenix 27/0)
Aaron CLAPHAM (Canterbury United 2/0)
Simon ELLIOTT (Chivas, USA 68/8)
Michael MCGLINCHEY (Central Coast Mariners, AUS 7/0)
Marco ROJAS (Wellington Phoenix 0/0)
Ivan VICELICH (Auckland City 71/7)
Kosta BARBAROUSES (Brisbane Roar, AUS 1/0)
Rory FALLON (Plymouth Argyle, ENG 11/3)
Chris KILLEN (Shenzhen Ruby, CHN 36/18)
Shane SMELTZ (Gold Coast United, AUS 34/18)
Chris WOOD (West Bromwich Albion, ENG 14/1)

Which only leave room for 2 more which I am guessing will be
Michael FITZGERALD (Albirex Niigata, JAP 0/0)
Craig HENDERSON (Mjallby, SWE 0/0)

On the basis
Michael  BOXALL (Vancouver Whitecaps, CAN 0/0) (too many other more accomplished centre backs)
Luke ROWE (Birmingham City, ENG 0/0) (Lochead will be ahead and Smith is also likely to be used at left back)
Jeremy CHRISTIE (Tampa Bay, USA 26/1) (injured)
Cole PEVERLEY (Charleston Battery, USA 1/0) (Ricki knows him and he isn't good enough to demand selection)
David MULLIGAN (Auckland City 25/3) (Ricki knows him and he isn't good enough to demand selection, if henderson isn't good enough then Mulligan would probably be next in)
Kris BRIGHT (Budapest Honvd, HUN 4/1) (far too many more accomplished forwards)
Mark PASTON (Wellington Phoenix 28/0)  (injured)
Leo BERTOS (Wellington Phoenix 39/0) (injured)

What worries me is Japan at number 17.
I have seen them play and they really try hard.
So much so, they almost trip themselves up.
If we concentrated on possession, I suspect that could be their undoing.
Not sure where mainland China is at with their footie.

I have to agree with this: I think that peverley would be chosen ahead of clapham because there are only 2 defensive midfielders. Also I am really surprised that Keat hasn'y been selected even if he is back from injury. At least he has a contract with la galaxy which is not the case of Boxall..

Must admit, Samurai Blue is quite a cool name for a footie team.
Which brings us to colours.  They have a blue home kit, we sometimes play in blue away.
Are we going to switch to black or stick with white.

That's hardly the strength of any All White team, is it?

I reckon if you had a drinking game along the lines of 'every time the AWs string three passes together, have a double-shot of absinthe' no-one would be drunk by the end of the 90 minutes.
