Aside from the fact he’s just taken another job, a decent shout for interim CEO would have been Tony Pignata. Football man, and business man. Knows the NZ football landscape. Knows Nix. Led Football Federation of Victoria.

Andy Martin, in answer to questions from the media in respect of matters raised by a former New Zealand Football staff member, stated that the matters were linked to a “performance management issue around the individual”.

his statement was factually totally incorrect. There were no performance management issues as they relate to this former New Zealand Football staff member.

Come on guys, give the man some credit. Martin obviously 'mis-spoke' when asked that question and he can clear up any misunderstanding when he talks to whoever is named to investigate the Heraf mess. (Yeah, right!)

Hasnt it been said he dosnt have to appear so not likely to find out about a bit of stuff. Hope its not going to be one of those toothless investigations that dosnt have the right people appearing before it.

reports suggest he did neither, but left employment in order to get a payoff. That is neither resigning or retiring

Someone in another thread said the new NZF CEO will be announced in the next couple of weeks. Any leaks about who's applied?

I have heard a rumour that no suitable candidate has applied and the role is being re-advertised.

Never heard of Iain Potter, but headhunt him to be CEO at NZF.

Familiar with operating on a shoestring budget & knows the value of being part of Asia. I know NZ Basketball have been proactive with sponsorship opportunities in likes of China & Japan.

Though FIBA setting up the Asian World Cup/Olympics qualifying route for NZ & Australia, obviously helped opened some doors.

New Zealand Football doesn't want you to know who is in the running for a seat on its executive committee, but Stuff can reveal a senior figure at Huawei is considered a leading contender.

...

Huawei New Zealand deputy managing director Andrew Bowater is considered the strongest candidate by those sources, having been nominated by the Wellington Phoenix, where he is a board member and his employer a major sponsor.

...

Bowater pointed to his first-hand knowledge of how sporting organisations work with corporate partners and the need for a better relationship between the governing body and the Phoenix

Sounds all good to me

NZ Football interim chief executive Andrew Pragnell says it is no longer 'the castle up in Albany'.

For anyone that complains that the All Whites aren't playing - get behind the Ferns instead. World Cup year, competing at the top level of world football, with some household womens football names. This result against Norway is a sign anything is possible with this team.

NZ is playing international football matches - get on board!

Stated by who? Hope it was someone not in the loop being conservative - end of May much more likely.

Not sure were to put this but the OFC has released a development strategy plan from 2019 to 2026.

Permalink Permalink
almost 7 years ago · edited almost 7 years ago · History

Great watch, affirms that OFC is looking to create a Nations League + continue continental club competition. They want two teams in the World Cup by 2026. Great news for the region

Also a specialised goalkeeper training program, which can’t really go amiss

Go straight to 1.34min mark to see what competitions they are planning.

Two that caught my eye.

OFC Nations League (new proposal) - really only worthwhile if also part of some AFC Nations League, with promotion relegation between the divisions. If happens a potential massive boost for AWs & AWs fans.

2020 OFC Nations Cup - if there is no Confederations Cup in Qatar in 2021, what's the point? Would rather see NZF use that May-June time slot next year to try secure some quality friendlies. Dare I say an AWs game in NZ, even!

Maybe some of Korea/Japan/Australia/China are looking for a tough warm up game, in late May/early June 2020 before playing some AFC World Cup qualifiers in June 2020.

okay but wouldn’t it be better for the planet to *not* make footballers fly to New Zealand from all over the world for one game? how many tonnes of CO2 will be emitted from the travel alone? https://t.co/o07vZs1Ed2
