I reckon it will be better for the development of NZ football for Ryan Nelson not to be playing.

thats a terrible call.

best for development of NZ football is to win, qualify for the next round, and  nelsen improves our chance of winning. one additional game of football is not going to make diddly difference to Boxall or Old as footballers.

Compulsory viewing at Four Kings Wednesday night. Matt better be open. Otherwise im stuck sitting at my bloody desk watching the internet feed.

hmmm possibly, not clear cut though given Arsenal's recent Nelsen bashing

OK, ill recategorise that as "probably" on reflection

Totally agree with you Marius. I believe this is a huge match for our lads and a chance to make some NZ football history, as far as i know we have never made the knockout rounds of any international tournament we've made at any age group male or female.

Forget the Brazil game, get behind the lads they can beat Belgium and no doubt will give it their all to make it through to the Quarter Finals. Myself, i can't wait.

CMON YOU WHITES!!!!

Three for me, and two for them.

Well put buffon.  Let's forget all of the rubbish and focus on the fact that we have 90 minutes to get through to the next round of a major tournament, this is huge!!

Good commitment by Ryan to attempt to be involved, his rejuvination starts here.

So come on Steven Old and the rest of the boys, give us something to cheer!  Bring back White Noise!!

i am digging out my White Noise t-shirt as we speak.

just read that the belgians have definitely lost that guy with the big hair in the midfield (his club demanded him back) and may also lose their no 1 defender bc his bundesliga club wants him back on deck.

so true, one win away from a massive achievement.

My White Noise is on the wall at the Bencher, but I'll get old A/Ws Adidas Black away that served me well against China.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Biggest game ever and it sould be treated as such.  Let's get football back on the back pages for the right reasons!!

On the Nelsen thing does anyone find it a little odd that Tony Smith, of the Press where Ryan is from, quoted Ryan as identifying two Sth Island players as the ones that should be in the Phoenix??  I'm always a little dubious when that sort of thing happens...a little partisan call designed for the home readership.

Looking forward to the game.  We need to get on top of them and pressure them early.  Killen and Ellensohn to start in the forwards?  Let's hope all the best Belgian players are called back to their clubs.  Me and a dutch friend (who is adamant that Belgium should not exist lol) are going to be getting behind the Oly-whites.

Is this one going to be broadcast on TV1 or is it only over the net?

Pretty sure it's live once again on TV1. However we will always be a few minutes behind due to the ad breaks they take every 15 mins. Still, i can deal with it so long as they show the whole game.

Three for me, and two for them.

It's highly likely, having chatted to Tony Smith at the game in Shenyang last night, that I'll be the only NZ media in attendance in Shanghai for this match, unless the editors at Fairfax Media (Tony's bosses) or NZ Herald (David Leggat's masters) have a change of heart.

The media folk are quite content to park themselves in Beijing and watch the game on TV, them get any quotes etc. they require via the post-match NZF phone conference.

BTW, a little bit of fuel for your TVNZ fire - CCTV, the national TV organisation in China, has no less than six channels dedicated to live coverage of the various competitions.

And not a decoder in sight!! :-))

Cheers,

Does anyone here honestly think we have a realistic chance of winning this?

And will require a masive dose of luck too. And a referee who won't book our players for thinking about tacling an opposing player.

the captain will probably be aaron scott.

cheers JR, that's pretty interesting - i was wondering what coverage was like beyond autralasia.

is it just me or is the whole tvnz production a little tired?  nice graphics and all, but the same old faces talking about how they watched lovelock race back in the day...

I just worry how you'll be able to choose who to support in the Arsenal - Inter Baku CL final in a couple of years time...

Was this Kompany player for Belgium who was called back for Hamburg one of their best players?

I think we can win it, need to play out of our skins though, and Killen will have to move at least twice.  I hope Elliot plays the way he did against China.  If only we could've held on for those last 3 mins, then all we'd need tomorrow would be a draw!

Yeah Kompany is seen as one of the brightest young players to come out of Belgium for quite some time. He's a central defender by trade but can play across the back four or as a defensive mid as well.

Kompany has in the past been talked about as a big money transfer to Chelsea, he's rated very highly.

With him gone and their top striker things are looking better for us. If we are to score a goal I realistically see it coming from a set peice.

Having also read Stu's last interview on the nzsoccer.com i unfortunately expect us to play long ball. He talks about getting in behind them as oppossed to trying to play through them. Still for this game i will take an ugly win over a pretty loss.

But only this once

I'm glad to hear that there is some belief among us!!!!! I to believe its a realistic chance!!!! tough but realistic and if 2 top players from belgium aren't gonna be there, well more that aren't the better

Captain should be Aaron Scott, was captain in the qualifiers and is a great bloke

Arron Scott

He's looked our worst defender so far this tournament, to be fair though no one looked partucularly good against Marcelo and Ronaldinho. Your captain needs to be a player who can inspire confiedence in voice and performance.

I'm not sure he can, i wouldn't be surprised if it goes to Elliott instead. Otherwise yeah it probaly will be him.

Old to score the winner of a set peice.

Good to see there's some decent support coming from back home ... the boys need the WHOLE country behind them for this one and since we all know how slack NZ media is at supporting football, we need ALL of the YellowFever crew behind the Olywhites, showing some really positive support.
