Off topic, and yet heart warming.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Croatia 0-0 with Saudi Arabia at HT.

By all accounts we're absolutely minging.

Tommy Oar equalises for Australia in the 89th.

Saudi 2-0 up against Croatia

Yeah, finished 2-0.

Apparently a ridiculous long-range goal that somehow got in, and another from a counter.

Like I said, my source said we were absolutely minging, Saudi Arabia nothing to write home about either.

What I noticed from the Cameroon game (I saw the second half) was that they were bigger and stronger than we were.  Maybe as a nation we need to focus less on the skill aspect and more on the sizestrength side of things to ensure that we can keep up with countries such as Cameroon.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Maybe our bigger guys lean towards playing rugby, league, rowing, basketball or something instead of sticking with football. Pretty hard [as a big fella] to compete with the whippets in our environment. In places like Cameroon, there is nowhere else for their big guys to play so the beautiful game it is.

I thought that too when they were all lined up before the game with there brightly coloured uniforms but when they all shook hands, you would have seen it was our guys who were bigger than they were

Size i don't think is a problem - and the better players around the world are not huge so i wouldn't start concentrating on them.

I've seen so many talented players get looked over because they were deemed too small - despite the fact they could run rings around bigger players picked... the idea doesn't work.

Here's hopin for a passing game tomorrow or atleast a pass.

Although in many cases it may be true there are many varients. eg. Messi/Carrick.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Hang on. You aren't seriously saying Carrick is on par with Messi are you?

Were we not comparing size? The original quote was 'a good big man' etc. Carrick is big and Messi is not.
Where did I say Carrick was on par with Messi?

I think Messi is more than just good. Far more.

I could'nt agree more. Big v small, that was the first comparison that came to mind.

How many professional players are over 6ft - alot are a mere 5"10" or atleast the skillfull ones.

The best players at the moment in the world - Messi, Sneidjer, Fabcergas, etc etc are also small.

And so to are alot of the best strikers - target men are hardly prolific - Heskey / Carroll aren't setting the world on fire.

Big players are slow to turn, generally lack quick accelleration and general mobility. Smallers players now and throughout hisstory have been better, unless they were a keeper.

Think fair to say that marinovich had Good game overall, but would expect your goalie to make all the saves he made nonetheless. Maybe he could have avoided the pen but he got stranded by the centre backs, managed to force the striker wide but perhaps went to ground a bit soon. Striker made most of it though. Marinovich didn't trip him, he just kinda left his body in the way. Some refs might not have given it.

Pet peeve of mine and not really the point you were making Sam, but annoys me when people say we would have lost but for the performance of the goalie as if it is something to be embarassed about.

Having a top keeper is the same as having a top striker - when they do their job they save goals that others let in that will keep you in a game...

NZ 2-2 Uruguay
Andrew Milne
Marco Rojas

A even tougher assignment today, but I think the Junior All Whites will register a famous result against a classy South American outfit.

Kilmarnock FC - Scottish Premier League Champions 1965!

Some interesting, but ultimately inconclusive, discussion in the "does size matter" debate:

I can't find the stats online, but if I remember right the average height of EPL footballers is 6'1'' or 185cm.  The EPL was the tallest/biggest league in the world at one point, although that was a couple of years ago.  Withouth any real evidence to support it I'd guess that it still is.
