The ball by Howieson in the first part of the highlights with the outside of his foot is all class and should have ended with us getting a penalty.

Good to see a lot of movement by NZ players, especially up top. Hoping for a good tournament.

Former boss slams NZ Football

By: Nick Walker | Latest Football News | Wednesday April 10 2013 5:27

A former boss of New Zealand Football is slamming the decision to make age grade players dig into their own pockets to get to the World Cup.

All Whites under 20's players will have to fork out as much as $3000 for the Turkey tournament in June.

New Zealand Football says it is to help pay for the team's build up.

Former chief executive Michael Glading says he's appalled.

"I do find it staggering that they should now be talking about going back to the bad old days in this sense.

"Just a personal view, I'm not any part of the organisation anymore, but personally I think if at under 20 level if you're selected to represent your country you shouldn't be paying for it."

Mr Glading says he does not understand the move.

"I'm appalled by it frankly, but again only a personal opinion. We all know there is money, money is being invested, I understand the benefit of long term investment but I do not understand why you wouldn't invest in a team like this."

I understand that sending a team to Fiji for the qualifier was all at NZ football's expense. Bringing so many players from overseas to play in Fiji came at a large cost!  Actually getting to the world cup finals and back plus accommodation expenses while there is funded by Fifa .

I completely agree with Glading. Under his watch, NZF had direction. McKavanagh... I wonder where he is most of the time.

Grumpy old bastard alert

hasn't there just been a clean-out of staff positions. About 3-4 key jobs were all advertised at once a month or two back. new people (ie, Mckavanagh's) in those roles yet?

Shocking that our professional players would have to pay their own way to a world cup.. Setting NZ football years.

Confused here.....FIFA cover all costs to attend age group world cups......plus a certain ammount of warm up games

Can only assume it is to cover the costs of an extended camp and/or additional warm up games

Can't quite believe that we would ask players at this level to pay their way. Can only assume that our finances are completely dire and if the national team doesn't make brazil, then we are well and truly stufffed on all fronts.

Read the article Jeekie. NZF is asking players to contribute $3K each for "the team's build up"; taken to mean the qualifying games.

Permalink Permalink

Hmmm. I have heard that the players have not been told about this......

In fact they were told at the last camp ( Which they all paid for their own flights to get too) that if they were named in the team, they would not have to pay from there on. Asking them to come up with $3K at short notice is a bit off....

Permalink Permalink

Is there any official confirmation of this or has Radio Sport potentially got this wrong. Perhaps they are referring to the tournament in fiji where people may have had to pay up to 3000 to get there, i'm thinking Howieson from the UK, especially since Fifa pay for the costs.

If it is true it will make us look a shambles and very amatuerish.

The All Whites really do need to qualify for the WC to make sure our coffers can stop this sort of thing (if correct) from happening.

Does NZF not recieve any money from Fifa for qualifying for hte u20 World Cup?? Its a massively televised event, surely they are making good coin off of it. And if so, this money should go straight back in to reimbursing players for any costs occured if they have indeed helped to pay their own way.

Maybe the mens side of NZF can take a short term loan off the women's side of NZF in the hope they can pay it back "when" we quilify for the world cup!, they appear to have plenty of money paying a full time coach, full time "technical analyst"(whats that all about??) and looks like a international teams manager!

Permalink Permalink

Asking your players for 3k each is just embarrassing! Can NZF not get 60k together to pay for this? Disgraceful.

The tournament is now just over a month away from starting and no official word has come out on the final squad and / or warm up games and preperation, does anyone know the timeframe for this?? Turkey will be very hot come the end of Junt / July (our games are based closer to the Sea so it will / should be a little cooler) and the players will need to get use to conditions as the temperture will reach the 40's. Milocivich did signal certain players from overseas would be called up that didn't play in the qualitfying tournament so we need to get them all together to gel if we want to push on and make the second round which I think is a realistic aim for us now. I'm not to sure who he meant but Raniga I's assume is one of them which makes our fullback strength with Roux and Tuiloma seem quite strong. Perhaps Tuiloma will play up front as a striker like he did at Galaxy as I think this is a weaker area, that and the center of midfield as usual.

Maybe they are still trying to figure who can rustle up their 3k? They must be gutted when NZ football are bragging about another surplus

Tuilomas not playing up front and Raniga is not in the reckoning. He isn't at the Galaxy he's with the Waitak Youth.

There probably are warm up games but NZF are slack and there arent any journos out there to chase them up

Sweet as. So he's signed professional terms etc?

Yep, LA were waiting for him to turn 18 earlier this year so they could offer him a pro contract. He went the other week after he played his last game for our first team (Birkenhead).

That's fantastic news then. Thanks Buffon. Wonder if he will turn out for the top side or just play reserves

I imagine after giving him a three year contract they seem him breaking into the first team. They have limited import spots so I doubt they would waste one on a reserve player. Also when trolling for info it looks like they let go a RB. Look forward to him getting a run

All good. Just saying but he's definitely over there atm. Whether he's actually signed a contract or whatever i don't know. But he is definitely in LA and training with them.

On a LA Galxay info site it has him named as being released, but also on the signed section.above. I took this to suggest he has been released from his youth contract and signed on professional terms... might be wrong, might be right.

Confirmation that jordan has been selected by the u20 aw s team. In addition of Payne, doris who played for Berwik rangers might be an other option http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/20130503-rhysjordannzu20-805355.aspx
