The over age players cant play in the play offs for the Olympics ,i think he will not be going to the friendly game in London due to the mariners having games on the 26th feb 3 mar and 7th mar .

So a team perhaps like this 4-2-1-2-1 with Nelson, reid, smith (plus random other defender) then keat and Lindsey in a holding roll and lastly a diamond upfront with Mcglinchy behind Rojas and Barbarous (spelling??) and then wood upfront?
Weren't Mcglinchy, Reid and Nelson the only over 23 players? who is the fourth?

According to the Fox commentators during the weekend's Central Coast- Newecastle game, Arnold has said he won't release McGlinchey for the All Whites' friendly (against Norway I think they said- which is news to me) in Feb.
Great news that the Oceania Olympic Football Qualifiers will now be played here in NZ in March after Fiji was stripped of hosting rights last week. Big boost to our chances, plus chance for local fans to see our players (plus possible TV coverage on Sky?)
Also, Oceania World Cup qualifying tournament in June where the AW's play in a group against Fiji, Papua and Solomons now taken off Fiji and to be hosted by either us, Solomons or New Caledonia (i.e. probably us).

Well technically he doesnt but I predict Arnold to stir up a sh*t storm and make McGlinchey feel pretty bad about it, kind of like that Fallon situation. I cant see Ricki backing down to Arnold

The groups haven't been drawn yet, to my knowledge, but I'm pretty certain match days will be along the lines of:
Group 1: 16th, 18th, 20th

Group 2: 17th, 19th, 21st
Semis: 23rd (Group 1 1st v. Group 2 2nd; Group 2 1st v. Group 1 2nd)

With Pay TV schedules the FFA won't be moving anything (this isn't the ASB Premiership). If anyone moves it would have to be Oceania.
The Phoenix could pull 20k and have live TV across two nations. The qualifier might pull 200 and may be web streamed.

Can't see OFC rescheduling an entire tournament to accommodate one game in Wellington at this stage of proceedings. They've had enough kerfuffle with this tournament already, courtesy the overly-sensitive Mr Bananarama (or whatever his name is) and his sidekicks in Fiji!
However, if Mohammed won't come to the mountain (because the mountain sure as hell won't be making the reverse journey!), I can see an opportunity arising where a final kick-off time of 1pm would allow for extra time, penalties and presentations, before everyone present can gather round a couple of large screens and watch Wellington's match at 4pm. Win win?
OFC will be beaming this tournament around the Pacific Islands. They're doing that with a lot of their events and matches these days, the most recent being the Auckland City v. Amicale FC O-League encounter.

To me, a glaring omission from the squad is Darren White, the Canterbury United midfielder, one of the outstanding performers this season in the U-23 age bracket in the ASB Premiership.
The lad also has a lot more experience playing overseas professionally/ semi-professionally than any of the mostly local players named in the squad; he's played in a German national youth cup final and a few seasons in England.
How they can ignore Canterbury's White and include 8 Team Wellington players baffles me!

Canterbury United's star English import Darren White could have a long-term future in New Zealand football if he makes the Olympic Games squad.
The skilful midfielder � who opened his national league account with a goal in Sunday's 9-1 win over Youngheart Manawatu � has signalled he wants to play for the New Zealand Olympic under-23 team.
Canterbury coach Keith Braithwaite has been pushing White's case, saying "someone from New Zealand Football should be looking" at him.
White told The Press this week : "If I am selected in the under-23s, I will definitely stay around [in New Zealand]. If I don't, I'll probably go back to the UK."
White, a close friend of Canterbury's All Whites midfielder Cole Peverley, joined Canterbury from English southern league club Frome Town.
He is eligible to play for New Zealand because he has permanent residency. He left Auckland Grammar at 14 to join German club Hansa Rostock, playing at youth level alongside Bayern Munich and German World Cup midfielder Toni Kroos.
White played in a German national youth cup final and after 4 1/2 years in Germany, returned to England where his family had relocated.
He went to Notts County in 2008 as a triallist and played against Queen's Park Rangers, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, but injured his cruciate ligament against Villa and dropped into the non-leagues.
White's technique and delivery certainly seem superior to some All Whites and A-League midfielders, and seasoned observers here expressed surprise he was not playing at a higher level in England.
Injury and work commitments meant he was "not in the right place at the right time".

Objectively, he is only a glaring omission to you. I was at Kiwitea st to watch CU against ACFC and while I wasn't looking for him, he didn't stand out as a plyer where I went 'ooohhh I wonder who he is'. You would expect that Emblen's Waitakere side has already played against him once and seen him here at Kiwitea st when they played ACFC. Thats at least 2 x 90mins...
He needs to have more than scoring a goal against Manawatu (which looks like anyone can do this year) to help him out.

White is a little surprising, Canterbury are banging them in at the moment, and whilst he may not be scoring many himself been an attacking player he must have been fairly involved in setting up and assisting goals.
Have never seen him play, but he certainly has more pedigree than most if the players selected.

Very valid point - permanent residence is not enough to make a player eligible, the player has to have the nationality of the country he represents, and the passport of this country is the only proof that FIFA accepts.
From the London 2012 Olympic Football Tournament regulations (this particular regulation deals with the preliminary Olympic competitions, i.e. the qualifiers):
In compliance with art. 15 of the Regulations Governing the Application of the FIFA Statutes, a passport that explicitly states the day, month and year of birth shall be the only document considered to be valid proof of a player�s identity, nationality and age. A player shall not be entitled to play unless he can produce a valid passport. Identity cards shall not be accepted as a valid means of identi?cation.
So if White doesn't have a NZ passport, he's ineligible regardless of what that article says.
