The NSW and Victorian NPL (National Premier Leagues) are of a higher standard than that of the smaller states.

NSW NPL (12 teams, 11 in Sydney, plus Wollongong), draws on a population of approx 5.5 million (and probably a higher % of football players within that popn than in NZ). I watch NSW NPL every week and watched ASBP for the last 10 years. ASBP is of a lower standard (technical ability, speed of play) than NSW NPL (excluding ACFC).

But staying on topic, it's 31 degrees and about 70% humidity in Port Moresby today. Thankfully not much rain on the extended forecast.

Jeremy Brockie is back in the team? Well he's obviously not there to score goals, so why is he in the team?

Run water and warm the bench for Moses Dyer, for when he is subbed off in the 88' to a standing ovation from the 39-strong crowd.

Brockie called up to replace Lewis.

Glad he has been called up but isnt this gonna leave us very light in the midfield now?

He has been playing as a 10, and I expect  would perform a shuttling role in a midfield 3 well

Brocks is a lot of things but a 10 isn't one of them. I thought Lewis would have made a good option on the left wing, AM. This certainly isn't a like for like swap. I assume Hudson has just announced we are playing football.version.route.one

So no other games will be? We won't get to see a whole group? Although I assume if NZ lose in the semifinals or something we'll get to watch the final at least. Very poor effort from Sky, but that's unsurprising.

I read it was AWs, semis and the final.

Maybe I enjoy football too much but I'd love to watch Tahiti and New Caledonia in the group stage so as to watch a preview of when we face them in the knockout stage.

Also, this is our continent's edition of the European Championship, of the Copa America, and we can't watch all of it on Sky? Embarrassing.

Outside the A League these are interesting times for football fans. We have gained the mighty ASB Prem but look like losing the EPL. Thank god for ESPN and the Champions League. This could be in another thread but as a coach of young kids I often ask how many watched XYZ game or know of a certain player. It's fair to say outside the Nix the kids have no one to look up to. That's why it is so important to have a visible AWs and a meaningful top international league to follow

I "thised" this as I agree with you but I think its great that young kiwis can watch kiwis playing pro football in their own back yard instead of idolising English, French, Argentinians, Brazilians and Italians etc like so many did pre 2007.

I grew up following Waikato United and loved Cossey, Fellowes, Nixon, Chisholm etc but I would have loved to have had the chance to see the likes of McGarry, Gray, and other NZ based AWs play on tv for in either our national league or a pro team which I finally got with the Kingz as I went to uni.

Don't bank on it. We're bad enough to lose a match that we aren't playing.

Lost by default because the guy who was meant to send the fax to cancel the match was on holiday

Just checked and the TAB don't have a bet on Brockie scoring 0 goals all tournament. Does any betting website have that option?

Actually, what am I talking about. That would be like betting on the All Blacks to defeat Namibia, they can't offer returns on something so certain, can they?

Wouldn't have thought there would be any strikers left in New Zealand to call up...

We have enough strikers. If De Vries is eligible, we should have brought him, as a more direct replacement to Lewis.

Alternatively, we could have brought James McGarry, Joel Stevens, or brought someone like Brock Messenger and pushed Louis Ferenc Puskas Fenton into that winger role.

Smeltz is also eligible for your not the all whites team.

Sadly this team looks stronger than our actual team.

Smith shouldn't be on this list either, as pigs aren't eligible for AWs anyway

Gleeson as reserve GK too

Dura has retired so I dunno if it's fair to include him either. Maybe Eagar instead?

Edit: some decent (by current AWs standards) squad players around too in Watson, Gulley, McGarry etc

Bit unfair to include injured players, I'm sure Roux, Moss and Smeltz would be there if not injured.

I don't think the list is there to slag off the players as that would be in clear violation of the forum rules, and no one would ever break those, surely?

prolly answered elsewhere but doing my head in. How come we have Brocks turning up after the Fiji game and others joining later this week. I thought someone looked at the FIFA regs and said they had to be with their national team the Monday of the week of the game. Or are we nice and jut letting Marco sit on the bench again this week and Brocks and Boxall play their final etc?

If Brockie turns up after the Fiji game he will be little use for the second game either as won't have acclimatised in time. Albeit given not originally selected will be a bench player.

Hudson would a direct replacement for smeltz. Same age and position. Knows the playing system. Acclimatised. Missed a trick nzf.

Regs say plays must be released two Mondays before the start of the tournament (16 May). Seems NZF is playing nice by allowing players to turn up later.

It's not mandatory for clubs to release players in this FIFA window, so maybe a compromise was struck with his club

Players have to be released for the Nations Cup. Nations Cup is OFC championship for A representative teams.

I'm pretty sure (99.9%) that the ONC is the only confederation comp that isn't in a "mandatory" FIFA window (as opposed to a normal FIFA window), and isn't subject to the conditions we might expect from say a Copa America or what have you

African Cup of nations in January (outside of standard FIFA windows). Same rules apply.

Nikko Boxall, definitely more talent out than in

Think the plan was for him to always come on as a sub from what I read, NZ football had agreed with Sydney to not make him travel and they wanted to use him for this game and then put him in a Moon Boot after. So this is NZ Football not enforcing the player to come.

I'd love to buy a car of NZ Football, it seems they go out of their way to get the shark end of the stick every time
