They are a bit more impressive on paper than the AW's.,when up to 14 play in the A league or lower.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Not according to Coen Lammers.

But for me they are one ofthe easier of the unseeded European teams.

I've seen quite a bit of Slovakia, there's nothing to be scared of there. Agree they're probably one of the easiest (if not THE easiest) European side to draw.

They are easy, ranked 34, beat the Czechs and Poland?
I know ranking don't always mean much, but in this case 34 against 77?

I suspect he's talking of that famous youtube video of the crocodile grabbing a wildebeest calf and attempting to drag it down but then a whole herd come and save it.  Something along those very general lines. loyalgunner2009-12-06 17:46:07

Poland is absolutely dreadful these days, we could take them. Czechs are in a big decline as well, they've had a change of generations and the new guys simply aren't as talented.

Both Slovakia and Slovenia won the jackpot by being drawn in that qualifying group. I'd rate Slovenia as the better of the two, certainly on the evidence of the two games they played against each other. Drawing Slovakia from the European pot is a big piece of luck for us, think that's the only game in the group where we may be able to get point/s.

Although it's more likely that the Netherlands will finish top of their group I reckon Denmark have it in them to cause a surprise, and if they can then they'd more than likely finish first. NZ vs Denmark would be awesome, being part Danish I'd love to see two of the teams I support playing each other.

Cameroon > Denmark imo

Certainly in Africa I'd rate Cameroon as the better chance to get out of that group.

The big unknown factor is how will teams cope being in Africa. When the WC was played in Japan/korea many of the usually strong European teams did poorly. The whole lifestyle culture thing was completly foreign to them. It was the Asian teams that did well.

Will be the same in Africa....the Slovakian and Paraguaians will be having their first experiance of Africa. The whole thing with playing at altitude, the completly different culture, the heat and dust during the day and the freezing nights  etc....it can be very unsettling to some people. Even Italy were not great at the Con Cup in SA

The AW,s have have had the bonus of playing in Africa. We played Tanzania and Botswana and then move to SA for the Con Cup. It will all be familiar to our boys. Plus NZ and SA have had a bond for a long time....its all familar stuff for kiwis.

I expect the Afrcan teams to do very well at this cup....they won't win it but expect some big upsets....just hope the kiwis can pull off one or two themselves

Actually, the feeling was that the (big) European teams (especially France) were tired coming off the European season, something I believe has since been addressed. The Asians were nothing special - China poor, Saudi abysmal, Japan and Korea got through their groups as seeded nations, before Korea benefited from some atrocious refereeing decisions v Italy and Spain. (I believe to get bums on seats).

The rest I agree with. I think we've been handed a group we can get a result or two from, but I doubt we're good enough to produce 3 excellent performances in two weeks in order to progress.

In particular, Italy have a tendency to start slowly, and Slovakia are on the big stage for the first time. Equally, all three sides are good enough to rip us apart if we're not on song.

China did f@ck all. Didn't score a single goal (useless lazy pr!cks).

Korea might have benefited from some poor refereeing but Italy's reaction was so racist I haven't yet forgiven them.

New Zealand's destiny is their own hands, and in real terms this means the Kiwi's are gonna need to discover the secret to scoring goals...!

Whilst it may be a forgone conclusion that NZ will loose to Italy, to stand a chance to progress they will need to get either a couple of wins, or a win and a draw, against Slovenia & Paraguay. Realistically they are more lightly to squeeze out a win and a draw, but if the draw is 0-0 they risk missing out on goal difference, hence they need to score...!

Simple huh...!

For us realistically to go through, something disastrous needs to happen to the Paraguayan team.

Don't think we have a chance in hell against them.
