Interesting point from stuff ...

The All Whites will play defending champions Italy along with Paraguay and Slovakia in next year's soccer World Cup.

Their campaign will begin against Slovakia at Rustenburg on June 16 (NZ time). They play Italy at Nelspruit on June 21 and their last group match against Paraguay at Polokwane on June 25.

It means all their games will be at altitude.

Altitude + Heat = Lethargic, so may be the AW's away strip should not be black. Although in saying that, it will be SA winter and it does get cold there. Yes even in Hi Altitude.

Altitude yes, but heat.... I don't think so

Paraguay. Santa Cruz v nelsen. Great Matchup
Slovakia have one of my most hated players in Hamsik. The little arrogant prick who plays for Napoli.

Just me, or was Charlize ( whilst still looking great) getting a tad pissy with her condescending co-host? Swore she was going to throw a tanty at one point!

She still managed to smile even when open the balls that everyone already knew the contents of. Thats professional!

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

I know its a different group but is the New York times being a little overoptimistic ... but then again thats part of the WC .. you have to rate yourselves a chance ..

World Cup Draw Is Kind to the U.S.

The World Cup draw for the United States was not even so bad when England popped out first from the magicians hat. Then the draw kept getting better for the Yanks as Algeria and Slovenia materialized.

This means the United States has a decent chance to advance to the second round, as of now, early December ...

And she didn't laugh at Beckam's hair either- top drawer performance.

She wanted D-Beck too

Three for me, and two for them.

Don't forget Salvador Cabanas, he is known in Brazil for being the destroyer of Flamengo in Libertadores and in beating Brazil in Paraguay, they are a VERY good, the best in the last decade according to Paraguyan media sources.
They only didn't finish top of Sth American group cos they lost a dead rubber to Colombia...

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

happy with that group, though Hay talked up Paraguay

certainly some tougher groups than ours

I think we will cope better with the altitude than say Slovakia - given how our Nix All Whites coped with the heat last week - i think we have a willingness to push ourselves

exciting times!

If we only finish runners-up it looks like Holland and then Brazil in the Quarters. They will be tough.

We've got to win this group!

I know, I know, its serious!

Quite pleased with that! Definitely could've been a whole lot worse. Paraguay will be bloody good, but I really hope we can get something against Slovakia. Not sure if altitude is a good thing but we definitely should get some games in playing up a bit higher before it starts.

BRING IT ON!

We need to win against Slovakia if we want a shot to progress. Even if im being extremely optomistic I cant see us getting more than a draw vs Paraguay

bring on the dutch in the second round

on a side note, if england win their pool, and aussies come 2nd, they meet second round, would have the makings of a good game

Some serious trainspotting here....... Of all the groups to be in the one NZ is in, rankings would indicate that we would have the best chance of getting beyond the first round, albeit that is unlikely.... Using Fifa Rankings as "points" ie Spain are allocated 1 point, Brazil 2 points NZ 77 points etc, Group F has the highest points value of 145, followed by Group A on 127. The toughest group on this measure would be Group H on 74 followed by e on 83. The rankings of the top two spots in each group again has NZ's group on 34 points as the easiest on 34 points follwed by Australias group on 26 points. The toughest group for top two places would be Group G (Portugal and Brazil on 7 points). Points for First three in the group again our group appears the easiest on 68 points while the hardest would again be Group G 23 points. So in terms of the oppotunity to pull off an upset, we probably have the best goup possible.

Might put a lazy 100 on NZ to win the whole shooting match... how much would that pay?

Based on the 3 games in South America and 3 in Europe scenario:

Bolivia at altitude, and a couple against Chile [as we seem to have some connections there].

Europe, would you look at the likes of the old Yugoslav countries or maybe some of the losing teams in Slovakia's world cup qualifying group?

+1
just looking at the second ranked team in each group we have the lowest ranked with Paraguay at 30
and then Slovakia at 34 as our third rated team.  Most others have their second best side well in the top 20 or higher ranked

I bought tickets to 2 games in Cape Town and 1 in Durban. Looks like I'm following Portugal (after the All Whites of course) as I see them play North Korea and Brazil. The last game I see is in the next stage and that looks most likely  Spain v Portugal (or Brazil or Ivory Coast). Stoked!

When do we play Italy? Hopefully first up, that is the only time we'll be able to snatch points off them. They are always slow starters.

Oh well. Not bad at all. Aussies have it well tough, so that's pretty funny. Not that excited about playing Italy again, but won't be complaining! We can give these teams a real go and we have a chance to go through. Nobody expects anything of us, so lets go hard and try and nick some points! Go Kiwis!
