Australia got that really rough.  Poor pricks.

How long do you reckon before we announce a few friendlies.  I read somewhere that a number of teams had expressed an interest in playing us as you'd expect.

Before the last world cup Brazil wanted to play us as we'd be similar to Australia.  Hopefully Serbia, Germany, or the other team they got whose name escapes me will want a friendly.

Yeah, France always get a helping hand (pun most definitely intended).

Although SA were the seeded team, France would have to be group favourites. Tricky pool with the hosts, Mexico and Uruguay though.

I've just had a look at trying to chart the 2nd round, that looks very very interesting with some potentially juicy clashes.

England/USA cross over with the group of death (Germany, Australia, Serbia and Ghana) and Spain cross over with Brazil, Portugal and Ivory Coast. Whoops...

Their 2nd round game is going to be a potential speed wobble, Germany, Australia, Ghana or Serbia.

Yeah, of great significance would also have to be the cross-overs for the KO stage. Not sure if they overlap, but if Groups A-D are Groups E-H are grouped, then the E-F group is way tougher!

Absolutely. They made out like bandits for the group draw, but the 2nd round game will be a real test of their credentials.

We need decent warm up games not just to mirror our oppositions in the WC draw, but to get out AW's use to playing more together as a team! getting combo's right. etc..

good draw. obviously we are underdogs against all three, but id much rather play italy than spain, argentina or brazil (bc they are less likely to hammer us although still almost certainly going to beat us), much rather play Slovakia than France, Portugal or most of the European pot, and Id prefer Paraguay to an African side (except maybe Algeria).

Interesting point from stuff ...

The All Whites will play defending champions Italy along with Paraguay and Slovakia in next year's soccer World Cup.

Their campaign will begin against Slovakia at Rustenburg on June 16 (NZ time). They play Italy at Nelspruit on June 21 and their last group match against Paraguay at Polokwane on June 25.

It means all their games will be at altitude.

It's called being a good host. the Backbencher hosted Ricki and the media this mornig, and he had about 3 cameras in his face while he was on the phone to the Kiwis in SA so it willbe common knowledge soon enough.

And the Herald ...

Coach Ricki Herbert described the draw as "interesting" with Paraguay and Slovakia unknown quantities, but he said the All Whites go into the tournament "with some confindence".

The management staff are now working out where the All Whites will play build up games. Herbert said with two European teams they will probably concentrate their preparation games there.

Not too unhappy for New Zealand in Group F draw, ignoring Italy, they only need to get results  (2 wins, or win/draw + goals), against Paraguay & Slovakia to progress.

Not easy, but not impossible....
