All Whites, Ferns, and other international teams

There's two arguments, the All Whites are a national team so travel the games around (as much as I hate to say it, Christchurch must be due a game soon, surely)
The other is that it's not unprecedented for a national team to have a home, Wembley anyone? I think England occasionally play elsewhere but rarely (really though, do we want to be like England?)

While it would be awesome if Australia and South Africa were lined up, there are other teams who I think it would be a lot more interesting to play against like, say, Bulgaria, Romania, Canada or Norway for example.  Wishful thinking, yes, but that would be legendary.

The logic of playing teams like Indonesia appeals to me. I don't think we will improve much by being consistently flogged by big name teams (not that we will have the opportunity to play these teams anyway) and it would be better to play teams that are good enough to challenge us but who we would still back ourselves to beat on our day (i.e. most asian teams). Ideally we could mix this up with the occasional match against a top 10 team and an occasional match against an OFC team who we could smash.

The idea of a tri-nations purely for sentimental reasons also seems a bit stupid to me, although it could draw a few more egg-ball converts

I'd be happy to see us play Vanuatu (though not ideal) so yeah, serious.  A better team I'd welcome even more though.

I'll be honest, was watching some How I Met Your Mother before I posted that and they were rightly hassling one character for being Canadian so that's partly why it came to mind.

Yep. If their was any sense to this logic they would play Aus in Auckland and SA in Wellington, where they could market the game towards the greater African community of Wellington.

they have to look at it, but the problem we have is our squad is split - half on one side of the world and half on the other. either the Euro based AWs have to fly all the way here or the A-League based AWs have to fly there. Bloody difficult to do either during a league season on any remotely regular basis - which means we may have to wait until the May-AUgust break to get any decent internationals (and which time the players are knackered and just want a holiday!)

I'm pretty sure Auckland has a larger African community than Wellington who could also be marketed at. Not just South Africans, but from across the continent. And I assure you the white Safas would come out for it, many I knew on the Shore were bigger football fans than rugby. Auckland is definitely appropriate for an SA game and it would definitely sell out. Would be a great atmosphere (as long as the Jarpies keep their vuvuzelas at home). If both games were go, it would be ridiculous to have both games in Wellington.

I truly hope they dont decide where to play the game based on which city has the largest SA population. Perhaps that would be an important consideration if we were playing China, but otherwise I think its far more important to be thinking about catering to the NZ fans first and foremost.

And personally I am quite happy if this game is held in Akl (or Chch). We have had it pretty good down here and have an entire A-League season ahead of us. We have to spread the love around a bit and Id rather give up a friendly than something more important down the road.

Plus, given a reasonable opposition and if we can actually get our European based players back here, I think Akl will turnout in reasonable nos for a one-off game given the World Cup hype and current AWs profile.

Yeah the games have to go to Auckland and Chch, but I think the first one back in NZ should come to Wellington. Let us turn it on again and get the rest of the country hyped for the following games

Paraguay on Oct 12th all but confirmed by everyone but NZF. FIFA have it on their site, the President of the Paraguayan FA has confirmed it on Twitter, but NZF say it isn't confirmed, but is likely.

Michael Glading has suggested any match will be held at North Harbour, Waikato Stadium, Westpac or possibly Christchurch, but another nation is still keen on a friendly here as well so we could see a second match during that window. As long as one is held in Wellington I'll be happy.

Herald on SUnday suggesting NZF baulking at 400k cost of hosting. That is only 20,000 people at $20 each. Easy. The Bahrain game generated roughly a million in gate takings.
I hope Glading is just playing hard to get to drive a deal with the Paraguayans bc at that kind of cost (even if its more than he'd like to play) the risk of a blowout is extremely low. People will turn out for this game.

So I'm very much hoping for a Christchurch game here.  Marketed right, priced wisely, and with our European big names I think it could do well.

In Christchurch AMI Stadium has a capacity (according to wiki) of 38 628.  If it sold out and was $30 a ticket that would be comfortably over 1 million in gate sales alone - easily making the 400k ML mentioned.  That would be awesome.  I hope another game happens, though.  One here and one in Wellington.

I mean, we got over 10 000 against Malaysia with what was very close to a 'B' team.  In the squad we had Nicholson, Banks, Fleming, Fisher, Old, Pritchett, Webster, Wylie, Smith, and Tinkler.

I'm sure they can accomodate 40k at Wellington. Those temp seats can come out more. Soccer field is tad smaller then a rugby field.

I think it will come down to ticket prices and which players show as to whether this sells out, wherever it is played. $50 with no Europe-based players won't sell out in Wellington, let alone Auckland. If both sides field top teams, than I reckon $40-$50 would be fair. If not it would have to be $25-$30 in order to sell well.

It would be more than fair if Auckland is given a game and a chance to show they can come out to watch football, but I'm not sure which venue would be best. Harbour only seats 20-odd thousand, Eden Park isn't finished and Mt Smart is a bit out of the way. It will be interesting to see where this goes. Wherever it is, I'm there!

Game should be at North Harbour.
The game needs to build on the momentum built up by the world cup performances and that should include giving the kids in Auckland a chance to view their hero's in person.

40k is what we can stretch to [and will be at the RWC] but we actually lose money on the temp seating because the cost to install vs the value of the seats is a loss. With the Bahrain game it was worth losing $$ for NZF because they wanted to pack [pax?] out the stadium. RWC has a lot of money coming in from corporates so it's easy to include the loss of the temp seating. It's just not viable at most events.

I'd be surprised to see the game in Wellington though, can see NZF 'sharing' their product with the rest of the country.

Fuck this stupid game

I don't see why that would necessarily be the case. It'll all depend on ticket prices and which players come down from Europe. And, of course, also how many of you Wellingtonians come up to join us in the White Noise section!
