Stand Up

That speech at the end makes me think Stan Walker doesn't know a thing about football. New zealand is hearty? what the hell does that even mean. he just talks about how its good we just made it to the world cup, sums up the song in general. I can't stand the Feelers and this song doesn't pump anyone up we need something motivating that says we want to win! (as unlikely as a win is) we shouldnt be there just to make up numbers.

Hmm. *thinks to himself*

"Pump.."

"Pumped"

"Pump It Up"..

"Pump it up for the All Whites...!"

"Sharing rewards the weak"- Steven Colbert

Imo, The song grows on you. Song has relevance was talking to Scottishbhoy about it and we found many lines which has relevance to this and previous All White World Cup campaigns.

Heard it a few times and I'm not a fan one bit. Its a shocker which doesnt inspire, He's an attention seeking nobody trying to prolong his time in the sun and I feel that someone has really dropped the ball on that one.

Its down right f**king awful. I have heard some people say that its brillaint and football people should just learn to like it. My response was one of 'Are you trying to tell me that football supporters know nothing about chants and anthems? GTFO'

I would rather listen to Paul Henry than this shyte...

I'd like to sit down with Glading and ask him with all his connections he formed in the industry, this was the best he could do?

Please tell me how this is supposed to pump me up? I could have chosen Shihad's 'Run' which would have had totally inappropriate lyrics but gotten me a million times more barred up than this shyte. Hell even a Britney tune in the right place might have had me pitching wood compared to this...

I think we should sing this instead:

Stand ip, baby stand up
Give me your heart, gimme gimme your heart
Gimme gimme
stand up, baby stand up
Give me your heart, gimme gimme your heart
Gimme gimme
All your love, all your love)

Angel face, I love your smile
Love your ways, I like your style
What can I do to get closer to you?
Don't think twice or count to ten
Don't take advise, don't ask me when
Just come my way, simply kiss me and say

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Man we are a bunch of whingers, it may not be the best song but for better or worse it's the one that was chosen.

the alternative to constantly bitching about it is for the non tone deaf Feverites to get together and record their own song or round up some other artist to do it.

So the challenge is to comes up wioth a better song and convince someone to record it.

Final say, compared to our previous World cup song this is gold.

Another point of view would be that if this was the song for the All Blacks for the Rugby World Cup, there would be riots and bloodshed in the streets.

Don't get me started on that right here right now crap from the feelers. Why didn't they get someone DECENT in new zealand music and make an original with references to the All Whites or world cup.
Something that motivates you.

Agreed.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I know the music programmers at The Edge, which I'm sure is the market NZF have gone at with this, they were laughing at saying it was sh*thouse so can't see getting actual airplay which is a pity and makes the excercise a bit of a waste.

Mr Glading has done some good things for NZ Football but this song is crap, he's dropped the ball with this rubbish.
He went to Sony to find a Sony artist that could record a song and get royalties for Sony on any sales. I have no problem with that if it was worthy of everyone singing it.
I don't think it will get sung in South Africa.
Football songs are meant to be sung hard and at full noise.
He should"ve got a few scousers together, most good football chants have started their life at Anfield. We would make a exception and let Miles join in.

While this song is not as bad as I thought it would be when I heard it was a Stan Walker cover of a Feelers song, it does nothing for me. It doesn't inspire, it doesn't excite and it seems irrelevant. I don't think the people behind it intended to appeal to many of us on here, or those of us at RoF on November 14. What Football New Zealand and Mr Walker and Co likely intended was to create a chart topping song with commercial success. It might make a bit of cash and spread interest in the World Cup beyond football fans. Atleast it didn't have any autotune, and that dude Stan can sing. Not my cup of tea though.

It's a bit of a joke, but so be it. Let the unofficial version show them how it is done!

I flicked on the TV this afternoon and TVNZ had a sports programme sponsored by Skoda.

Had a slot called "Noah's Ark" in which Noah Hickey was clumsily interviewing Tim Brown who was somewhat non-plussed with rather stilted questions.

Was mostly pleasant and good-natured (ref to Tim's head bandage).

Seemed like a programme still evolving and presenters yet to grow into their roles.

Oh yes- connection to this fred: Bernadine Oliver Kirby's daughter apparently likes the WC anthem (stand up) - she's 2 yo.

No, no, no.

I guarantee they'd all sound like arse.

'82 had such an awesome song.  Amend it slightly (somehow?) and give us that.  Yeah it's not original but beats Stan Walker trousers down.

This nostalgia for "Heading for the Top" is mis-placed. It was sh*t.

So is "Stand Up".

All football songs are sh*t though, I can live with that. It's just one those universal truth don't-f**k-with-cosmic-forces situations.
