Its hard enough to guess outcomes when you know who's in the contest. Impossible when you don't know!

Well we know the 3 shortlisted are all overseas based (for now).

And we know Hudson is the man of choice. And we know Farina, Dowie, Butcher & Sanchez all applied. So I'd pick Hudson Farina and one of D, B & S as the three. Gawd.

Thats the scary part is that you are probably right ... Not exactly inspiring us with confidence.

Where did this leak about Hudson Coe from? I actually think its a beat up and the real list is Dowie, Farina and Sanchez. Picking Dowie for the job irrespective of Hudson being on the list or not

Given most of these names have come from the British tabloids, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to discover that Frank is the only correct foreign candidate and Mr Coe's agent is using this to get him back in to the British game after doing poorly at Newport (dito for the rest).

Yet you have absolutely no problem doing that to Andy Martin who has done nothing wrong thus far.... Don't throw stones and then whine at others who do it too.

Pull your head in.

I've tried but it keeps popping back out. You're getting confused again JV. Ivan has proved himself so deserves respect, and although I agree its early days AM hasn't and his first major decision doesn't look promising so far.

Hudson is being touted as the first choice but there is still no evidence he has actually put in for the job (ie like a clear statement from him) and he is contracted to Bahrain but we do know, apparently from UK press links, that unemployed Dowie, Butcher and Sanchez have, along with a quoted Farina. My guess is it's down to Dowie, Butcher and Farina from what I've read - any of which I'd be very unhappy with. I'd much prefer the Rufer brothers or Emblen if DBS or F are the only other option.

Why it has to be an overseas coach who knows nothing about NZ players or competitions beats me? The same thing with Andy Martins appointment. It smacks a bit of the old cultural cringe (thinks - what would Bluebottle do?).

i have a gripe against martin and that is the time this is taking.  i know he has a pile of excuses, like being new, having reviews done, but it simply does not take this long to find a coach.

Forgot about van Egmond. His name has come up a few times too. So that's three from 2 known Aussies and 4 known Brits. Unless your unannounced dark horse sneaks in at the finish.

Please, not Farina!

van E before he.

Getting this deja vu of how the Aussies went for the mediocrity option after their German WC campaign.

Fark I wish we were in Asia, maybe the increased competition would broaden our organisers scope?

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but would not the ideal person be RYAN NELSON!

Couldn't afford him. And he is probably under achieving slightly at Toronto FC because of the calibre of his team. Even if we could afford him I would say give him a couple more years to develop.

I would also say that if Nelsen was a candidate, he would be too close to some of the players having just only stopped playing with them.

I think he's probably doing a decent job if you consider the squad outside of their Designated Players (and Julio Cesar). At the very least they are doing far better than last year, currently 3rd in the conference and 9th overall with games in hand over most teams (last year they finished 17th overall). However, he is only a year and a bit into his managerial career and as Vader pointed out, his having played fairly recently with many of the players could cause problems.

Not really sure how any of Ryan Nelson's experience is relevant to be honest, even given his success in "building strong relationships, customer service and being an expert in the mortgage industry."

Being originally from Nelson but living in Christchurch, I once recommended a teenage Ryan Nelsen to then Nelson Suburbs coach Colin Tuaa.

They didn't sign him - but I told Ryan this at his book signing at AMI Stadium before the 2010 World Cup and he was quite chuffed and could see the linguistic possibilities saying something like "I wish I had been signed by Nelson - Ryan Nelsen of Nelson would have sounded cool. Nelson's Nelsen..."

Nelson might be "too close" to some of the players but didn't Man Utd appointed Ryan Giggs after the sacking of Moyes?

I know it was only temporary till LVG took over but there are numerous other occasions when a former player has taken over as coach i.e Kenny Dalglish became Player/Coach at Liverpool and didn't do a bad job!

Permalink Permalink

since when is it a bad thing to coach a bunch of players that you recently played with vader?

it's beside the point i know, as ryan's on a path that will have him never come close to having to resort to coaching the AWs

I am surprised its taking this long to land someone. However in my experiance with recruiting is that a delay is normally caused by a chosen candidate trying to negotiate a change of employment conditions or that your first choice is taking time to accept or  suddenly changed their minds and pull out or is having trouble getting out of a current contract.

Maybe they have chosen someone and they have come back and said..."that salary......you have to be kidding....pro ball boys earn more than that"

So you would rather Farina or GvE? After seeing both of their teams in the A-League, Hudson can't be any worse.

Hope it's Hudson. Young guy with his own ideas. Quoted in Guardian as a disciple of Mourinho and Biera, of Continental/ Sth American style. Whether he can get players playing that way another matter of course. But it could be quite an exciting journey.

Well of those three-- none. Just re advertise the job. Happens all the time. Not much point in hiring someone just because he is the best of a poor bunch.

And we keep re-advertising and the same guys keep applying and we keep marching on without a coach which we need sooner or later.

Your suggestion did not actually answer the question. You should be thankful it was not the 3 English names mentioned.

Classic Leggy.

Three for me, and two for them.

I'd also add I was in favour of Ramon and Emblen duo from the outset. The only one of those three that is a better option is Hudson and that's pure speculation based on what I read only.
