Just look at how bad we were against UAE. Mexico are a possession based side, able to keep the ball and more attack minded. We are massive massive underdogs despite their problems.

When's NZF confirming Christie won't be playing, that's what I want to know.

Strange decision as it does open up a lot of potential headaches for them.

I wonder if Panama have a right of appeal and if the findings will be released. I'd be interested to hear what the justification is for dismissing the claim.

Well the interesting thing is that Adama Traore is not eligible for Australia based on the 'usual' reading of that rule due to playing for Ivory Coast at age group level in an age group WC qualifier.

Initially I was quite excited about the whole playoff thing and like many got caught up in the hype about NZ's chances. However I must admit I am not as up beat as I was. Having recently watched lots of clips of Mexico in action I agree we are massive underdogs. OK so they are out of form.....but form is relative. Even out of form they are quality. Technically they are light years ahead of us....in every area. Sure we might be able to park the bus and keep the score down but to win qualification we will need to score. I don't think we can keep them scoreless over 180 minutes. Plus we have massive problems with injuries to our most creative players. Killen is gone, Rojas, Smeltz are just starting to come back in from long term injuries.
But what people are really forgetting is just how poor NZ has been in the last 18 months. We got carved up by New Caledonia in Dunedin, we couldn't beat US club sides in our warmup games. We will need a miracle to qualify.....I just hope we can hold the score down in Mexico so there is some hope back in Wellington. I would pick 0-3 away and 0-2 at home
However football has provided plenty of examples of massive upsets....if we battle it out, if Mexico lose their Mojo, if we have a lot of luck then there is still a sliver of hope.....bring it on!!!!

Sounds like the loophole here is it was an 'invitational' team rather than a national side.

Panama’s inquiry request to FIFA as to whether Mexico fielded an illegal player in three World Cup CONCACAF Hexagonal qualification games has been quashed.

A statement released Thursday by the Panamanian federation indicated that FIFA confirmed Argentine-born forward Christian “Chaco” Giménez is and was free to play for Mexico, following a consultation it made Wednesday with soccer’s governing body.

Correct. FIFA website has done the time calculation between Mexico & NZ wrong - daylight saving ended in Mexico last weekend, so we are an extra hour ahead.
The game is 9.30 am NZT
Ignore any info such as this which ignores the daylight saving change:

It says 8:30am NZT on the Fifa website which is 2:30pm in Mexico.

New Zealand Football is playing hardball with the Wellington Phoenix, refusing to allow the club's All Whites to play against Perth next Saturday.

The Phoenix had believed that its All Whites contingent would be available for the round five match against the Glory, which kicks off at 5.30pm at Christchurch's AMI Stadium.

The club argued the All Whites could play the game and still be in Auckland in time for their late night Saturday flight to Los Angeles to prepare for the November 14 World Cup qualifier against Mexico.

NZF high performance manager Fred de Jong said all of the selected All Whites were expected to assemble in Los Angeles on November 9 (US time) and the Phoenix would not have access to expected selections Glen Moss, Andrew Durante, Ben Sigmund, Leo Bertos and Jeremy Brockie.

"What we've said is we're just being consistent across the board," de Jong said.

"It's too important, we're doing everything possible to prepare the team for the two biggest games every four years. We want to minimise the chance of injury or any possible delay in flights and unfortunately that's impacted players playing for clubs and the clubs themselves."

De Jong said Fifa rules meant the All Whites had rights to all selected players between November 9 and 22.

"The clubs know the rules and they ask if their players can play and in this instance we've just said the players won't be allowed to play, they'll have to travel and a lot of instances they're disappointed and accepting.

"The Phoenix are the hardest hit which is unfortunate. Players will always want to play for their clubs because obviously that's where they earn their living and they want to play football, that's their job, they enjoy it. But we're trying to qualify for a World Cup and we'll do what we can."

Phoenix general manager David Dome did not return calls but it is understood the club is disappointed that NZF hasn't shown any flexibility.

The Phoenix are in a tough position as the A-League does not break for international windows.

They were without their All Whites for the round one loss to Brisbane and the international contingent returned late in the buildup to the round two draw against Western Sydney.

Of more pressing concern to Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick is Monday's away trip to Melbourne Victory.

Louis Fenton will fly with the squad tomorrow and while Merrick hasn't named a starting XI, he appears a good chance to replace Bertos at right back.

"He's looking good at training, he's over his shoulder dislocation and he's trained hard for the last two-and-a-half weeks, in live, physical contact type sessions," Merrick said.

Merrick is also likely to drop one of his strikers in a bid to get a better foothold in midfield against the Victory.

Jason Hicks and Albert Riera are the likely options to replace one of Stein Huysegems, Paul Ifill or Brockie.

Thanks Fred De Wanker! If the players want to play, friggen let them, you tool!

Yep my yellow heart is pissed but my white heart says stiff titties we have to take every step we can to get our ticket to the WC and nothing else matters.
Also this is why I was pissed wen Ernie released the lads for non FIFA games during round 1.

It's time for Eric to put Alex Rufer to the squad to see how he can do for the Phoenix.

Norwich City supporter since 1992, New Zealand supporter since 2010 but without Rory Fallon's winning goal against Bahrain, I won't know about New Zealand Football.

Unrealisitic for Nix to have expected players to play at 5.15pm(finish 7pm) and still catch a 11pm? flight out of Auckland.  Too much to go wrong with flight up for start.

^ So you reckon Stuttgart have released Marco? You reckon he's chosen Fallon? Butler? Christie? Henderson? Keat? You reckon he'll play Smeltz even though he's been out for months?

I'd rather guess the team when I know who is in the chosen squad.
