Oh you're joking!  And because it looks like I've just gotten a new job and probably won't be able to get time off I may have to miss it!

We have to make sure the Feverzone is booked out for us. The Beckham game was proof that if we're together we can make a hell of a lot of noise ie, we weren't together for it so singing/chanting was not so effective.

Its no longer a problem.

The recruitment drive starts now. Everyone round up reluctant mates/flatmates/workmates/family members/casual passers-by on the street and drum it into them where they need to be on 14 November.

20,000 is bare minimum, but let's aim for 30k, maybe even a sell-out.

And All Whites - please don't lose the first game 3-0. At least give us some hope for the return leg.

Make everyone buy their tickets far, far before the first match is played, so if we get annihilated then people will already have paid for their tickets so they'll still come along.

Maybe it would be good if I don't get the aforementioned job (although it looks likely) then I could definitely be at the game.  Having said that, there'd still be a chance I could go.

Anybody actually think it'll sell-out?
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
I doubt it will sell-out but at least it gives the AW's a strong incentive to perform well in the first leg (if they needed any more incentive) knowing that the crowd they get in the return leg will be strongly influenced by their first performance.

Lets learn from the last big game at the stadium
1. No yellow seats visible at kickoff
2. Ricki, tell the guys about the differential rule
3. Learn the National Anthem
4. Arrange for five thugs to beat up an opposing player so that he doesnt have to lie.

I'm not sure who lolz's comments are aimed at but I'm just signing in to say my flights are already booked and I shall see you all at the Back Bencher for the pre-game warm up.

On the subject of travel, I'll have already been to three Phoenix games (09-10 season) by the time the qualifier rolls around (not bad for a dirty Jaffa :) )

Phoenix games don't count, according to a huge minority of Auckland City fans that whine about it (two of them) following the Phoenix is supporting Australian football, not NZ football. Hard News2009-06-26 11:19:49

Joachim, you cant be a real Jaffa. They dont go past the Bombay Hills that many times. I bet you moved there as a kid.

Born a dirty jaffa but gained my degree in the south.

With Auckland's shocking public transport it's almost as easy as a man without a car to get to a Phoenix game as it is to an Auckland City game.

In fact it'd take about the same ammount of time for me to get to Wellington from work on a friday as it would for me to get to Kiwitia Street from my house on a Sunday.

Shame the cost isn't similar.

Good point Toffeeman. Hopefully, NZF will take this into account.

Also, with decent marketing we could be looking at a bumper crowd of around 25-30k.

From Newstalk ZB news...

North Harbour Stadium chief executive Brendon O'Connor claims New Zealand Football's in breach of contract by awarding the second leg of the All Whites' World Cup qualifier to Wellington.

Westpac Stadium has won the right to host either Bahrain or Saudi Arabia on November 14th.

O'Connor says North Harbour Stadium and the North Shore City council has made a significant investment in New Zealand Football in the last decade.

He says as a result of their investment it was agreed they would get a number of All Whites' fixtures and they believed their time was due.

Brendon O'Connor says they're not going to contest New Zealand Football's decision as they don't want things to get messy.

Present time in Bahrain and Saudi is 3.50am 9 hours behind

Therefore our kick off times in NZ could be
2.30 pm kick off -  5.30am over there
7.30 kick off would be 10.30am over there

First Leg
2.30pm  kick off in Middle East =11.30pm NZ
7.30pm  . Middle East = 4.30am NZ

Midday today is going to be 46 degrees, but the game is being played in November so I would think it would be quite a bit less.

My pick for our kick off would be evening for TV purposes. OF COURSE!!!
1st leg as close to midday as possible

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Love the sarcasm.

Sour or not over whether your city got it, though, we expect everyone there unless there's a more than adequate reason.

Considering we are playing a nation that doesn't eat Pork, wouldnt it be a blow if no one could go to the game here because of an outbreak of swine flu.

Seriously, I am surprised at  predictions of this game being anything other than a complete sellout. This should be marketed and sold before the first leg. Look at the interest in the Beckham game (Wgtn version) and the second round games of the 82 All Whites against Saudi, Kuwait and Chiina.

Ticket prices $80 perhaps?

If it's anything over $25 (possibly even $20) they will have destoyed chances of a huge crowd.

Good news.

Don't know about the whine from North Harbour Stadium, but definitely Westpac is open for a bumper crowd and extra funds. The decision in line with most of the players and coaches wishes are spot on because they are the one that are actually playing the game and feel more in-tune with the environment.

If North Harbour Stadium want to have a even stronger challenger for more All Whites matches then they should consider applying another NZ team into the A-league (maybe combining both Auckland City and Waitkere Utd finances) and then get crowds along.

Besides didn't North Harbour Stadium has plenty of NZ age group matches of recent times?

BTW happyted does still support NZ national team to some degree, doesn't he? Some of the posts are a bit harsh on the poor fellow.

Totally agree if not priced right in the current environment they will struggle.

NZFA attitude to the game will be interesting if they view it as a revenue opportunity and ramp the prices up to try and boost the coffers. Get the pricing right and they could get a full house in behind the team and improve the chances of the big prize, a place at the WC and the financial rewards will come from that.

Think you're about right c$25 probably wouldn't turn people off, kids c$10.

$80 a ticket and you'll get the hard core and not too many more.
