And here come all the gamesmanship and fake injuries every 2 minutes from Venezuela....
07 Sep 00:37 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
omg how did we not score

The Venezuelan keeper must be the player of the match.....

So many times so damned close. We should be up by HEAPS!

Gut wrenching stuff, 2-1 loss when they deserved to wion. Such a cruel game at times.

Hard luck girls. Sucks to lose when you're easily the better team. Bring on Spain!
07 Sep 00:53 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
63% possession to NZ, more shots on goal, more corners. So unfair. Positive is that these girls really can play and going forward the womens game has some real talent coming through. Glad to see the coach trying to let the girls play with freedom.

Couldn't finish a sandwich.  Should have won that by a handful.  NZ easily the better side.  Hate watching games like that.
You cant just pick and choose which laws to follow. Sure Id like to tape a baseball game without the express written consent of major league baseball, but thats just not the way it works.-Hank Hill

conceeding off a goal kick is poor

Agreed, that's what England do.

Thought we were clearly the better team, but sadly sometimes that isn't enough. Great to see the way we knocked the ball around though, very positive signs.

Yeah if we can keep this approach with the age group sides the senior sides will reap big benefits in the future.

Tears. Sounds like we played well even though a loss.

Least my other team (Canada) won today.

Did Hannah Carlsen play at all?

Three for me, and two for them.

I would have liked to have seen Hannah Carlson get a run, she is a very good player
09 Sep 08:34 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
good grief, Germany must be favourites for this tournament. In only 2 matches have scored 19 goals!!!

at half time against South Africa the score was 9-1, the added one more goal in the 2nd half. The game finished 10-1

Good luck tomorrow girls! (and the Canadian girls)

Dammit long range goal to Spain 5 min in
09 Sep 20:09 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
Its all a bit tight and scrappy at present, we need to open up the play and use both flanks. Spain apply pressure in numbers which means quick switched balls when we win it might give us good space to counter into.
09 Sep 20:15 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
We are struggling to keep possession, Spain apply so much pressure to the player on the ball
09 Sep 20:15 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
1-1 YESSSSSS Kate Loye!!
09 Sep 20:26 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
Spain looking the better side 20 min gone, almost a mirror image of the Venzuela game although we arent resorting to long ball
09 Sep 20:36 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
The girls are having to work very hard defensively and are doing a pretty good job of staying disciplined with respect to team shape but stray passes are letting us down when we win the ball back. We are spending long periods of time without the ball.
09 Sep 20:46 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
Halftime, 1-1. Tidy up the stray passes, switch play a bit more and keep up with the defensive discipline and we could nick this.
09 Sep 20:48 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
Spain 55% possession 3 shots on target, NZ 2 shots on target
09 Sep 21:03 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
Stunning free kick goal to Spain 47th minute
09 Sep 21:08 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
We are looking increasingly shakey at this point
09 Sep 21:09 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
The technical difference, especially in midfield, is huge.
09 Sep 21:16 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
Sure is
09 Sep 21:18 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
I think the Spanish movement off the ball is a lot more urgent and our ball speed is too slow and we are making it too easy for Spain to pressure the ball player hard
09 Sep 21:24 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
Yeah, hit the nail on the head there. And our first reaction is too simply hoof it away, whereas most of the Spaniards look for a pass. Gotta hope we can get something off a set-piece!
09 Sep 21:25 · edited 09 Sep 05:57
We need to sub Patterson, she looks tired and is making too many mistakes
