I thought Banners already was big time after his 80 yard screamer in the NZFC last season.

Three for me, and two for them.

You Wellingtonians, how likely is it that Banners will begin wearing sunglasses at night, dating supermodels, driving a flash car and copping an attitude?

His wife would be annoyed, and i don't see his employers Puma splashing out.

Anyone else getting totally over the repeated use of the word "historic" and the term "make history"? Some t**ser the other night called North Korea's goal vs Brazil "historic"? Why? They've played and scored at tournaments before.
No originality, these so-called "journalists.
I suppose everything is historic if you think about it, including the dump I had this morning. It was the first dump I've ever taken on Friday June 13 2010 and because I crimped off too early it was also the most futile because I had to go again later.
Which brings us coveniently back to the standard of journalism in the modern day...

Did I really just hear whoever it is presenting the Lotto show say, "It doesn't get much sweeter than the All Blacks' historic result at the World Cup on Tuesday night?"  imaginality2010-06-19 20:03:27

Not a mistake I would make.  But it can be made under pressure I spose.  Even Fred de Jong did it on Nov 14.

Well, he tries hard at least. Don't think it's working anymore though.

Funny too that when i saw the headline i immediately knew it was his article. Must of been the use of the world PC.

I was going to launch into a rant about how much of a knob Laws is (who insults the parents of dead children) and how "PC" means sweet f**k all and used by the lazy and the stupid, but I'll leave it short. Why would someone allow an opinion they have on something they know nothing about to be publish in the national media? Poor pathetic little man.

That will be why he is a mayor and media 'personality' because apparrently those most basic skills are beyond him.  Otherwise he'd have made millions as a footballer.

Be nice to see Siggy line him up from 20 yards away.

For all the good work Stanaway and Gourdie do, the fact they then have to cross to Union fixated numpties like Saville and MacKay always makes it difficult to love a sports bulletin.

They need to make those comments because they have built their careers on Union and any change in the order undermines the justification for their employment.

Damn it all HN. That's the kind of reasonable white, middle-class liberalism, PC-ness that plagues this sport.

Um. Not quite. Outside of 4 countries,no one actually plays rugby. In football this is more like outside of 60 countries,it isnt their main sport. Therefore someone outside that 60 (NZ),beating/drawing someone inside that 60 (slovakia) is closer to hong kong beating england or wales in rugby.

Talkback radio/newspaper opinion piece writers are paid to provoke a response from an audience. However rather than put forward a well thought-out view from a minority or devil's advocate stand-point, it is easier to outrage or offend. It's lazy and it's an offense to journalism.

Fortunately the only people that find his bollocks compelling aren't too smart themselves. No one with any knowledge of sports would have their views changed by this muppet - most people are stoked for the All Whites and football in New Zealand in general, and some rugby-heads are scared for their ailing sport.

Dead right. Hence why he put his email address at the bottom of the piece. So people get riled up,see the link, click it and email him. The result: Laws feels important.
