For me, its a biased small sample. I have seen Spoonley play around 5 or 6 times, and every time he has looked awful - very flappy at crosses, uncertain in his box, and has spilled a couple of easy shots for goals.
In the few games I have seen Gleeson he has looked much more assured, and has played well.

Really? Did you not watch him at the U20 World Cup in 2007 where he was a stand out player. Or where he produced a sublime man of the match performance in a 1-0 win for Auckland City over Team Wellington on the day of the AWs win over Bahrain. That's probably the pick of the bunch in what has also been a fairly good NZFC season for him.
No doubt Gleeson has plenty of potential and hopefully he goes well under the guidance of Wilkinson at Portland, but i think it's pretty far fetched to suggest he's well ahead of Spoonley in terms of potential or current ability.

Peverly on the news last night saying he wasn't used to rejection, when he trialled for a team he got picked. Thats a good attitude to take into the WC camp. Shows how much some of these younger guys want it I guess.www.kiwifromthecouch.blogspot.com

Starting to come round to the idea of taking just 3 goalies and not including Moss, though Ricki's said he'll take Moss. Just seems like a waste of a spot on the roster. Admittedly it's NZ's fault he's still banned - maybe they're trying to make it up to him.

Yeah Spoonley just comes across as nervous lately.
It doesn't mean he won't deliver the goods but from the sideline I'd like to be confident he isn't off his line.

He also made a string of top saves before that goal went in. But hey it's easy to make a player look bad if we're just gonna cherry pick his performances like those on here are doing at the moment.

I'm having an operation on my knee in January, so with a bit of luck should be back training by the end of Feb. If I can lose 15 kilos, gain 9 yards of pace, learn to use my right peg and get my fitness levels up to be able to play 90 minutes by the end of March I still fancy myself as an outside chance of making the squad.
played my first 15 minutes yesterday in the last game of the season for the Poly 2nds (needed a draw to survive, lost 2-0, team is relegated, everyone is blaming me). Knee held up but general fitness might be a touch short for me to make it in the squad. Devasted to have the dream ripped away from me due to injury (and lack of talent).
All I do is make the stuff I would've liked

If no one is challenging him then that says more about the lack of depth in NZ football than it does about Mullys quality.
At the moment midfield is our weakest area...we have lots of good defenders and strikers. Central midfield is a problem. If Brown and Elliot get injured early at the WC then we are in deep shiite. Wee Mac will do OK but you would not want to play Italy without Brown and Elliot.

the info that i have seems to agree with the team that showed u nz friends in MARCH, if everyone is fit and ready...this maybe the team that ricki may field vs slovakia at the world cup----.. this team was the one ricki may test vs australia late on may and it is a team that i have showed U more than 45 days ago...

i would love to get james to S.A but he is not playing maybe barbarouses for him.... as attacking midset
the defenders the got ok....anyway old or boyens it is very similar who is better for u nz friends scottish league or mls? they are not playing that is tough for a defender...
i would take 7 defenders

5 forwards
barbarouses can offer something different as he is fresh and mobile

Interesting to see Fallon and Killen as the top two strikers.
I'd be a little worried they are too similar. Also I'd like to See Wood's start, a big target man like the other two but more mobile.
Smeltz, didn't have a great final few matches for the Gold Coast or All Whites so he may not be paying the price in selection here.

He will want to see how Reid goes at RB and maybe see how Smith goes as LB. Locky is recovering from surgery so they probably won't risk him this early.
I agree on the comments about the strikers. Fallon and Killen and Wood are all big target men. I would love to see Wood start against Australia. Give the lad a decent chance to show his abilities.
