I thought the problem with Daniel was that he hasn't been a NZ citizen for long enough, the other three lads have been citizens for ages.

Lochhead has been very fortunate that Mark Paston had his saving gloves on on Nov 14, otherwise he'd be known as "the oaf who lost NZ the world cup".

Not entirely, the whole 'they wouldve stuffed it up anyway' arguement wouldve existed aswell.

For that statement to be right we have to win the world cup

Although Lochy might have taken the knee-jerk flak for it, people would also have gone on about all those near misses we had in the last 15 minutes alone.

From where I was sitting right behind the Bahraini, he was so fast, he overtook Lockhead and cut left in front of him. Sure he stuck his leg out but the Bahraini's move looked a touch professional.

well I was right when I said "if Elliot does not play in Wellington, we WILL win"

I'm gonna say it again - If Elliot does not go to the WC we WILL make it through the group stages.

I think he's past it (well, no I KNOW he's past it, he's not good enough. If Ricki brings him I will be disappointed)

For those of us who have seen his good stuff, I'd love to have him off the bench. But yes, we need the fittest who can compete for the longest. I really think we should do what we have to, to escape Group F.

My squad would be-(judging reid picks us)

GK
1.J.Bannantyne/J.Spoonley
2.G.Moss
3.M.Paston

DF
4.R.Nelsen
5.B.Sigmund
6.T.Smith
7.I.Vicelich
8.T.Lochead(possibly LM)
9.W.Reid
10.A.Boyens
11.S.Old

MF
12.T.Brown
13.M.McGlinchey
14.D.Oughton
15.C.James
16.J.Brockie(hes playing well)
17.S.Elliot(just makes it)

CF
18.J.Smith(I reckon he will edge out mulligan & Barron in Rickis mind)
19.S.Smeltz
20.R.Fallon
21.C.Killen
22.C.Wood
23.C.Barbarouses(wouldnt play him in midfield)

only NZFC player is Vicelich, the rest would get carved up. I would put elliot but not to play just in there for experience.Lochead to play in MF. my XI would be-

---------------Paston----------------
Reid----Nelsen-------Sigmund----Smith
----wee Mac/Oughton-----Brown--------
Leo---------------------------Lochead
------Fallon/Killen/Wood/Smeltz------

2 of those strikers. Lochead is LM.tomrewi2009-12-26 15:40:12

Ok well, if Mulligan starts every single game, plays every single minute and captains the side, we WILL win the World Cup. But if this doesn't happen we won't because we are not good enough without him (hence why Ricki refuses to play him before the WC incase he gets injured.)

Also whooooooo good work on convincing tomrewi that Elliott is crap judging by his post: "17.S.Elliot(just makes it)"

Elliott should be the first or second name on everyones "Midfielders" list. Btw Tom, you forgot Leo in your team list so I am guessing now Elliott is off the list.

Elliot is sh*t. He is a "HAS BEEN" !!!!!!! he is old, slow and passing is piss poor. Offers nothing, absolutely nothing going forward.

and don't come back at me with videos in his Fulham days because that does not demonstrate what he does now.

in Manama, Elliott was the worst player on the pitch by a mile, and if he plays at the WC ALL NZ will be embarrassed. PERIOD.

James ?  Based on what ?

Barron ftw.  Played a quality 30 minutes against Bahrain could easily to it again and again.

If Elliot is crap then surely Mulligan is too. He cant even get a game for the Phoenix. He hasnt played all season. He's trained wit AWs. but thats it. Here's my Question Ricki..why should you continue to inlcude him in the AW squad if he hasnt had game time. Is he just there to train against the first IX? Come on...If Ricki selects him for squad to WC then he's as bad as Graeme Henry and Co.

He didnt convince me, I already thought that. Just as wooooooo said Elliot is old, and didnt ricki say he wanted to take young players. And no Elliot stays there for experience to help out the younger players off the pitch, I would take out Jarrod Smith

The Aussie coach wants his whole team playing tough, competitive football leading up to the WC.

For some that means trying to hook up with overseas clubs on short term deals.

What happens to the Phoenix players?

Endless training sessions won't cut it.

maybe in your opinion. But then you seem to really dislike costa so might tend to wear the eyepatch when watching him play
From what ive seenof brockie at NQF he looks average and a poor finisher. Costas outscored him this year hasnt he?

Although Costa hasn't been magic for the Phoenix, he is playing better than Brockie, who is pants.

You are right.

I asked the same question about 5 weeks ago.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

This is what the warm up matches should hopefully acheive. The more we get the better we will be. That is what NZF are trying to organize

You cannot be serious and since coming back from injury Brockie looks to be improving every game. If Phoenix released Costa I would be surprised if any other a-league team even considered him.

I havent seen much of brockie. Costa is indeed improving. So why not just include both of them

Does Tommy have a kiwi accent?

By the way, who do you prefer as a goalkeeper? I think Paston should be n.1, he seemed really cold-blooded  during both matches in the Play-off, and that would be really important in the WC, although Moss did well in the Confederations Cup.

As I know Paston probably wouldn't be going to the World Cup through injury and Moss will miss 2 first games at WC through disqualification. So bad

I didn't know the big guy was injured! I hope he gets his leg sorted before the World Cup, so bad it came in his best run of form!

Anyway, if he is ok for the World Cup, I think Herbert will take him surely...Could the Phoenix consider him joining an NZFC club on loan just to play some matches (If he is back in 10 weeks, he would catch the last month of the league, or is it too late to join any club)?
