Without a doubt David Browne is a better player than Tyler Bord

Sam Burfoot has been the best midfielder in the ASB for the last 6 weeks

Given you've left your name in your profile, I'm going to suggest you might be biased.

Different types of players though, no? Irving would easily step up, much superior player to the likes of Caira/Boxall/Brindell-South etc, just a problem with the import status. Still worth it imo

What type of player is he?

Haven't been back to NZ since 2008 but I always thought Benjamin Totori was the best player I saw in the ASBP. Thought he was perhaps capable of trialling in the UK or Europe back then. It appears he didn't last long in the US or at the Phoenix though? It's a shame.

I also thought Andy Barron was a decent midfielder back then too but I don't think age was on his side. Somebody mentioned Koprivcic and he looked good, but again I'm going back about 5yrs or so.

Daniel Saric played in Croatia but I haven't seen him play. Could he make the step up?

Burfoot is a bal playing midfielder, Riera a ball winning midfielder. Two complete different type of players

Played a season at ACFC. Poor.

So Sam Burfoot is having a trial at the Phoenix, if I read it right. Does this mean another ACFC player (after Reira), developed by the club, is potentially being poached? If so, does ACFC receive compensation for all the effort and resources put into Sam's development? If not, why not? Likewise Waitakere should be compensated for developing Krishna?

It's one thing having the ASBP as a feeder system for the Phoenix, but it shouldn't be without compensation being paid for player development. I gather most ASBP player contracts have an opt out clause if the Phoenix come calling. You can't blame the player for taking the professional contract, but it shouldn't be a free pass.

isn't that the purpose of transfer fees?

The whole notion that one club/academy develops people is nonsense. Many people/caoches develop a player. all the way back to U6s

And more so the case with Burfoot. You've had him 6 months. There would be other clubs in line before you guys in the 'development' stakes.

But are transfer fees actually paid? Was anything paid to ACFC for Reira? I agree many different people/clubs usually develop a player.

What is Burfoot like? Do you think he is the type of player we need? From what I gather he is a similar age to the other young players and also plays a similar positon to Riddenton and Rufer

I think he is in much the mold of Rufer but is a bit sharper. Burfoot likes to be on the ball and be the play maker. Has a high work rate. I think while he is probably a deep lying play maker (similar to Chris James I guess), you would not ask him to be the guy plugging in front of back 4 like Riera. He would be the guy who might play alongside Riera and get the scraps off of him and distribute it if I was to think about the type of role he would play.

Watch the highlights of City V Waitak at Kiwitea. Burfoot laid the pass onto Milne for the first goal. Stunning pass.

Perhaps this thread should be reworked to read - Phoenix players capable of playing for ACFC in Fifa Club World Cup. Only two or three would fit that bill I suggest. Boyd, Reira and possibly Fenton.

So you would not take back your previous talismanic and ACFC hero/captain Ben Sigmund?

Don't think he'd be an improvement on current back lineup of Berlanga, Vicelich, Billen and Irving. I'd take the Scot Colin Marshall now that Amicale's season is over.

Not now , may well be the answer ...unlike the Pnix we're not slavishly loyal to players who've bled for us ...  .......   sit down Leo ..
