I was listening to radio sport on Saturday I think, they were talking to Sam Malcomson about Anthony Hudson and the important of the Phoenix to NZ football.

He said that the Nix were very important as one of only two professional clubs in the country and that if the nix left there would only be Auckland City.

ACFC win 3 - 0 away to Southern (who won first corner in 80th min).

Colin Marshall is still free; from Amicale ex Scottish league and Aston Villa in the distant past.

He was quite useful midfield against ACFC in both Port Vila and Kiwitea Street.

Would add quick legs, pass & distribution a bit like Albert R.

Auckland City 3 HBU 2. Auckland better side but HBU could have pinched a point in the last 10 mins with better finishing.

Auckland don't  look to be as dominant as in the past , but to be fair early days and they still have  2- 3 players to come in. Feel that the league may be a lot closer this year than in the past. Minties moment for Citys 3rd goal when Tade dispossessed the HBU goalkeeper on a back pass - showed the value of putting pressure on.

Wasn't particularly impressed with their centreforward agaisnt Southern, but that midfield will dominate anyone in the league and Tade drifts into each game just enough to make him the best goalscorer around.

We must have been at different games Oska, thought City's mid field on the day was near non existent. (early season) No ball winners (missing Feneredis) and very poor distribution when they did have the ball. Defries and Tade received very few if any passes in the second half. As for the centreforward, he quite rightly got man of the match. I do agree with

'Tade drifts into each game just enough to make him the best goalscorer around.'

I suppose we disagree on City's striker. He wasn't honking but based on one game alone didn't seem as good as what they tend to put out. Jackson? up front for Southern on the other hand impressed me a lot. Easily their best player on the day for me, particularly given he had so little service.

City win the Super City Derby 1-0 David Browne scoring in the dying seconds of the match. 

Pretty sterile game imo . Little goal mouth action until Brownes injury time winner minutes after coming on. Each side had  one cleared off the line.

Surprisingly muted atmosphere for a derby - perhaps the number of players that have played for both sides influenced this.

2 of Waitakeres imports - midfielders Harding and Curry looked useful , but the other, Richards, looked average. When Richards was subbed Dickinson was left to plough  a lone furrow up front and looked lost . Always looked at his best for AC when working across the front line bringing others into play. Had no one , except perhaps Biss , working off him. Not sure that Waitak will score many this year but probably won't concede many either.

Interesting to see that Waitak have moved the touchlines in again this year , narrowing the pitch. It is at least 5 years narrower on the far side than 2 years ago - always a negative act in my view , and Waitak had no wide players today - Adams and prattley were the full backs and didn't attempt to get forward much.

AC solid with no standouts apart from John Irving - always solid and dependable , but often un noticed.

yeah sounds like there is more to that story than your letting on - also dosn't sound like something Baezley (maybe Willy though :-p ) would do.

Yup everything was wrong with that Wanderers team they played like thugs and Chris Kerr basically let them get away with murder. 

I was at the aftermatch straight after Baezley found out the player was seriously injured said here is the player of the day.

Chopped that player from behind studs up in at least two other tackles elbowed one other in the back of the head not to mention several other dubious challenges.  Obviously as awarded for his "industry" around the pitch.

These kids are going to get blown of the pitch on the international stage not just by the other teams but by the officials.

Problem: I want us to be successful in the World Cup but we won't win anything by kicking the shit out of the opposition and knocking it to a big unit up the front. 

If NZF had any clues we would import a selection of international referees to officiate in the ASB Prem and ref like it was a world cup match to give these guys a chance to learn how to play not just try and mug players off.

There wasn't any sign of this in the game v nix reserves 

I must have watched a different game from you guys. Maybe you lads felt the cold more than I did cause it seemed to have wired your brains funny.

Both teams were poor and it was 3 pass turnover football. If both teams play like that in their respective upcoming competitions, they'll get absolutely smashed off the park so hope you are not expecting much in Morrocco. I watched the number 25 (and I am not making this up) fall over on the side opposite the stand and appeal for a foul when there was no one with in 3 yards of him. It was taking the piss to the extreme. Wanderers played harder than you and it looked like you were expecting the ref to bail you out of dumb positions you got yourselves into and you fell over very very soft. You were bloody lucky not to have Berlanga sent off and I thought that was in the box too so should have been a pen and then Milne handled the ball in the box on the 3rd goal. The only bad tackle was dealt with and that was young Brock (again far side of the pitch for me) so as for this getting away with murder...... I don't think you guys have any complaints about the ref but I think Wanderers can feel a bit aggrieved by him. The people next to me did not see anything in the Browne challenge so guess that's one for the tape.

funny that supporters of the team who don't want them in the competition are the only ones saying these things.

Didn't see it at all at the nix reserves game, and they pushed Waitakere in their first game - again, never heard anything like this after that game. 

If you had heard the vitriolic comments around the Weenix team in the comp, you would be..... well perhaps not shocked at all. It's was actually pathetic and reeked of 'we have to protect our patch'. Never mind the fact that they cannot win it or take another teams place, it actually sounded like they were worried to be playing them. Perhaps cause they know that this years team is not that good. I heard one guy actually say 'well the Warriors reserves and juniors play in Australia so the Phoenix reserves should too' then went on about how they are breaking all the transfer laws and regs. It was incredible.
