Now HT with Highfield saving the pen after 35 mins.

Yup, several misses from right in front, 1-1 would have been pretty unfair. Having said that, gotta convert the sitters!

Game over 2-0  now bringing on subs who couldn't even make waitakere youth team last season..

And down to 10...

Now 2 - nil after Claps converts a penalty. Waikato down to ten after Kramer received 2nd yellow when bringing down Kamo in the area.

Looks like it is all over with a quick double to Canty - Darren White and Andy Barton so 4 - nil after 77 mins

And the goals keep coming with sub Ash Welbourn making it 5 nil after 81mins

All over 5 - nil to Canty

Good result which helps our goal difference, now + 4, and good to see Louie Bush, Ash Welbourn and Chris Murphy all getting a run from the bench. Looks like Waikato are going to struggle again only 1 goal scored in four games with 12 against.

Phoenix 'A' on Wednesday night 7pm (Challenge game) and then Hawkes Bay next Sunday 2pm both at ASB Football Park.

Yeah Canty were dominating the game even before the sending off, unsurewhat I'm going to write it up as, just complete dominance really. Just a correction, Ash got both the last two, was hard to see, a few scrambled home at the end there!

Canty now up to third place on table after Waitakere and Auckland draw 1 - 1, Hawkes Bay defeated Otago 2 - nil and Wellington 3 - 1 over YoungHeart Manawatu.  Waitakere and Bays on 10, Canty 9, Auckland 8, Wellington 6, Manawatu 3, Otago and Waitako 0.

Makes it a big game next Sunday at home to Hawkes Bay.

The fact that the ACFC LB got in this team shows just how farcical this 'team of the month' is. He would have been Aucklands worst player.

3 - 2 Canterbury nice work against Phoenix....

Permalink Permalink

Agreed. I thought for long parts of that game Canterbury were the better side, more in tune with each other. I was getting a bit annoyed with the Phoenix attitude, especially towards the end, of just taking the player out if he gets passed you. Kamo was chopped down a couple of times right in front of me. A bit disappointed not to see Moss in goal given how little game time he's had lately.

Good game some great goals and a chance for Canterbury to give some of their bench player a run. For Canterbur a goal to Aaron Clapham (30 min) - a quality finish,  and  two to Ken Yamamato (71 & 84) , and for the Nixs Hamish Watson (25) and Danny Sanchez (50) a great finish.
Do not forgot Hawkes Bay at ASB on Sunday at the slightly later kick off time at 2.30pm.

Canterbury definitely the better side tonight.  If they play like that on Sunday it is a 'done deal'.  Seemed to play better knowing that there was nothing to lose.

Looks like it will be a warm one as ASB this arvo, as 23C at 10am and expected to reach 28C. Do not forgot that is a 2:30 kick-off.

Should be a cracking match. I know Hawkes Bay gave ACFC a tough game up at Kiwitea Street. Hopefully this season they can make the playoffs. Hope the Canterbury supporters turn out in numbers. We really respect your outfit and facilites.

Not sure he's our worst player but would still much prefer to have Ian Hogg back scampering upfield.

You often make some astute observations JV, when you don't let the bile rise too quickly. I suspect you've been a coach and even an old school AW. Pity you hide behind a moniker but perhaps you have a newspaper column to protect?

Looking at the consistent 11 that played across the park for ACFC, he would be your worst player. You would have a hard time finding one that performed worse than him. Against other LB... well I would suspect the Luke Rowe/Tristan Pratley would be the next premier LBs in the country with Hogg gone but I'm not up with how they are playing.

Ha I would have been so lucky and as for a column to protect, if I'm making astute observations on occasions then I obviously can't be Terry Maddaford.

Derserved win to Canterbury.  Lovemore was certainly 'managed' well by Canterbury.  Did not really notice him until the second half.  Canterbury seemed to be coasting for a period once thery had their 2 goals then totally relaxed once Peverley was sent off for his studs up 2 footed tackle.  Surprised Hawkes Bay were not pulled up more often for consistent elbows in the back especially by Bill Robertson.

Great support especially from those behind the dugouts and in the Clapham Fan club area.  Long may the unbeaten run at home continue....

Then those who bet you are really Billy Harris have lost then? I think someone also went for Brian Turner.

Good to hear the Canterbury supporters are getting behind their team. You're a credit to the ASBP.

See you at Kiwitea Street for the big game from Japan on Thursday night by any chance?

Very good win this afternoon, apart from the opening 10 minutes of each half we monstered them. Most people couldn't believe how ineffective HB were, Highfield only made one save all afternoon late in the game from a supposed back pass. The Dragons also put 2 over the bar from 6 inches out, by Kamo and Terris in the first half. Could easily have been 5 or 6. Good game to watch and credit to HBU they tried to play constructive footy, just weren't up to it through the midfield. Great to see CU playing out from the back and working on keeping the ball while they probed for chances (yes it can be done Declan while winning :), step up from last year when more often than not they just hoofed it for Slefendorfas to chase.

Of the wide players Barton overshadowing Darren White which says something, can't see Fifi getting another start anytime soon while Murphy, Welbourne and Yamamoto all ramped it up when they came on. Terris and Wortleboer both looked back to their best, Smith and Clapham were all class through the middle. Kamo looks fitter than ever and keen as mustard, the Bayrev twins are solid, Schwartz gets better and better with every game.

Don't get too carried away with the Dragons performance.

HBU have been average for a few years so didn't expect much from them anyway on Sunday.

Thought from the start of the season it was only when they would crash back to the bottom half of the table.

They have had one half decent result vs ACFC [who have eyes on bigger fish for the time being] the rest being Waikato, YHM, Otago not really the top of the crop.

Peverley was rubbish for us last year [unless you are watching the game that Keith thinks he's seeing] a player making that tackle Pevs made in that part of the pitch plays without his brain in gear.

Hope Canterbury finish in the top two and make the O League final next year (along with ACFC). You'd be a worthy team and I think the Canterbury football public would really get behind an O League campaign by the dragons. You've earned it.

True blue do you really think Canty are that good or is it just your hate for Waitak speaking. IMO Canty are at best just an ordinary team but lucky to have Kamo and Highfield holding that team together

I've seen Canty twice this year.

1: The Bulgarian brothers (or what ever they are) are hype and no substance.

2: Clapham has been not really tested this year and is playing down to the level of the league rather than rising above it.

3: Adam Highfield is having a good year. Surprisingly, Julian Collett is too and keeping his nose clean as well.

4: How the fuck does anyone rate Russell Kamo. I mean, really? There must be better strikers than him in the S.I.

I think Waitak are the better team across the park. The addition of Mulligan has allowed them to just let Pearce, Krishna and De Vries to roam and sit higher - he will get them the ball. Last year, De Vries and Pearce had to come a bit deeper at times cause there was not that delivery into the right spots.

The potential is there to upset the usual suspects as always but I really do doubt it based on experience and pedigree of players involved. Looking at how the league is shaping, it'll be Canty and (depending what the hell is going on with TW) probably HBU that will join the other 2 in the top 4.
