Not an easy draw with first two games away to Auckland City and Team Wellington.
If you can get to the Auckland game, make sure you call into the clubrooms after for a drink.
Likewise, I would appreciate suggestions on watering holes for the ACFC v CU match at English Park. Or are we better off heading somewhere near the centre then out to the park after?
If by center you mean city there isn't really one.
Season tickets are $50 or $115 for club membership. Shall be buying one at the end of next week. No free shirt this time though (pretty sure there was one last year), but you can get a polo for $15.
who's lining up for canterbury this season? is darren white still about? is glenn collins gonna make the step back up to asb prem?
I got a message on facebook saying they could be naming the team on Thursday.
Lifted off Mainland Website.
Ivanov brings a wealth of coaching qualifications and experience to the squad including holding the highly regarded UEFA “A” coaching licence since 2009 along with NZF level 2 & 3 coaching qualifications.
Ivanov has recently returned from the World Football Academy Periodisation Expert Conference which he attended as an invited guest. Latterly Ivanov has held down a role as FC Twenty 11 Development Manager and PFL team Head Coach. Head Coach Keith Braithwaite expressed his desire to see the 2012/13 squad continue to break down Auckland dominance utilising Ivanov’s technical and analytical skills. “Tsetso will bring a different dimension to training nights. Andy (Pitman) played a key role in player development and we have appointed Tsetso to take over this key responsibility. Ivanov himself is looking forward to the challenge of coaching at this level. “My first task is to earn the respect of Keith and the players. I look forward to playing a part in continuing to build a healthy training culture based on mutual respect and dialogue between myself and the squad”.
Ivanov replaces Andy Pitman who has made himself unavailable this year due to work commitments. Canterbury United placed second after regular season last year winning nine games. This years home campaign kicks off against Otago United on 18 November at ASB Football Park. For all season ticket and Dragons Club membership information go to www.canterburyunited.co.nz
Keith working with Tsetso. Interesting. I couldn't imagine 2 more different approaches. So bizarre it just might work.

Anyone know if any Nelson players have been training with Canterbury?
Latest from the Press:
The 25-year-old midfielder - surprisingly omitted from the national squad for the World Cup Oceania qualifying series - has been back training with the Canterbury Dragons.
Canterbury coach Keith Braithwaite said Clapham, who captained the Dragons to the ASB premiership playoffs last season, "hasn't signed yet, but he's 95 per cent certain he's going to be OK".
Braithwaite said keeping Clapham would be a real coup for Canterbury. "It's the same every season. Other clubs have shown interest in him, but he's showed his loyalty to Canterbury United, which we are very pleased with."
Canterbury still hope to retain Josh Smith but Braithwaite said the midfielder, who studies engineering at the University of Canterbury, is contracted to a Manawatu company which requires him to work for them over the summer.
Midfielder Darren White is returning from England for a second season with Canterbury and Braithwaite said teenage defender Francis de Vries was heading home from Switzerland after helping FC Basel win the Swiss national youth league.
De Vries, who can play as a left back or central defender, was not offered a full professional contract in Switzerland and is expected to be available for the national league.
Braithwaite said several leading Mainland premier league players, including Chris Murphy, captain of titlewinners Ferrymead Bays, Coastal Spirit striker Ash Welbourn and Christchurch United forward Chris Anderson, had been training regularly with the Dragons, "along with some younger local boys".
"We're also hoping to get another couple of additions from out of town to bolster the squad," Braithwaite said.
Canterbury United will play Otago United in Timaru on Sunday as part of their buildup to the national league start on November 3.
Big Pete 65, Christchurch
Do not think so as still overseas playing football, Finland and now in Thailand.
Why would Canty look at him when he walked out on the team a season seasons, also not getting any younger.
I think the ASB Premier sides have to name their squads in the next week or so.
he's off contract according to his supiciously appreciative wiki page
"He is best known for his range of passing, game understanding, fitness endurance and scoring goals."
Said Mrs Kelly
Surprising forgot to mention that loves to coach when on the field even if he is not the coach.

An interesting change to this season’s ASB Youth League is the move to run the competition from early January to mid-March instead of prior to Christmas.
New head coach Danny Halligan and his assistant Ceri Evans will bring the squad together at the end of November to prepare for a start after the Christmas holiday break. “Our group is a well balanced one in terms of experience with around half of the players being members of last season’s successful squad”.
Two players – Louie Bush and Ken Yamamoto – have recently returned from a NZ Under 20 World Cup training camp in Wellington and opportunities will occur for others to show their talents in front of NZ selectors. The players will also benefit from the playing experience of All White Aaron Clapham who will attend Youth Squad sessions in between his duties with the senior squad.
Although the final goal will be to retain the ASB Youth League title the club’s main aim is to provide a means for individual player development leading to success at senior level.
The squad is: Eddie Ashton (Cashmere Technical), Omid Rajabi (Ferrymead Bays), Louie Bush (Cashmere Technical), Hamish Smith (Cashmere Technical), Tristan Nicol (Coastal Spirit), Connor Lidstone (Coastal Spirit / SBHS), Anton Smith (SBHS / Cashmere Technical), Jordan Hall (Coastal Spirit), Shawn O’Brien (Cashmere Technical), Preston Bell (Cashmere Technical), Martyn Taylor (Halswell United), Cory Mitchell (Cashmere Technical), Jordan Halligan (Cashmere Technical), Lee Morris (Western), Aaron Spain (Coastal Spirit), Kazuya Kotyama (Cashmere Technical), Ken Yamamoto (Cashmere Technical), Josh Wright (SBC/Cashmere Technical), Jamie Draper (Ferrymead Bays), Abdul Khalifa (CBHS), Rian Hooper (Coastal Spirit).

Mainland Pride Squad
The Mainland Pride will
be coached this year by new coach Gareth Turnbull with assistance from Alana
Gunn and Tim Bush.
The core of last year’s conference winning team have been
retained but there are a few noticeable absentees. Hannah Wong (Arizona), Zara
Walker (Lenoir Rhyne) & Gabrielle Brodie (Newberry) are all studying in the
USA on football scholarships, whilst Belinda Van Noorden has been withdrawn
after sustaining a torn ACL in the Reta Fitzpatrick final.
New players to the
squad are youth players Whitney Hepburn, Courtney Messervy, Teagan Mulvey and
Orla Dawson, whilst Charlotte Dawson, Melanie Cameron and Lauren Dabner will all
make their debuts after impressive local seasons.
Expectations are high for
the group as they boast numerous youth internationals as well as some
experienced players at this level. NZ U17 players Lily Alfeld, Laura Merrin,
Meikayla Moore, Lauren Dabner and Emily Jensen should all have developed from
the last campaign and will look to continue their fine form from the recent FIFA
U17 world cup in Azerbaijan. NZ U20 player Ashleigh Ward has returned to
Christchurch after playing a season in the Northern Premier league with
Glenfield Rovers.
The full squad is:
Goalkeepers: Lily Alfeld
(Coastal Spirit); Briar Guyan (FCTwenty11), Teagan Mulvey (Halswell
United)
Defenders: Meikayla Moore, Laura Merrin, Maia Vink,
Bridgette Milne (all Coastal Spirit), Ashleigh Ward (Glenfield Rovers);
Charlotte Gordon (Nelson); Emily Jensen (Three Kings); Courtney Messervy
(Cashmere Technical)
Midfielders: Meikyla Weiblitz (Cashmere
Technical), Rachel Brodie, Orla Dawson (both FCTwenty11); Juliana Los (Nelson)
Chloe Webster, Emma Proctor, Lauren Dabner, Whitney Hepburn (all Coastal
Spirit)
Forwards: Dayna Napa, Aimee Phillips (both Western),
Monique Barker (Cashmere Technical); Melanie Cameron (Coastal
Spirit)
Head Coach – Gareth Turnbull; Assistant
Coach – Alana Gunn; Goal Keeping Coach – Lynn
Murray; Technical Support – Tim Bush; Manager –
Emily Toase

Surprised (in a good way) not to see Ceri's son in the squad.
I'm not expecting any bolters in the senior squad tbh. Maybe a stronger FC90210 presence due to Tstetso
When are they naming the senior side? I heard it had been completed but not published.
Squad have to be submitted this week so expect them to be made public soon after.
Dragons have named first 15 players for new ASB season after a squad game on Saturday at ASB Park.
Much as expected from last year.
AC, Adam, Tom B, Tom S, Nick, Barty, D White, Kamo, Terriis, Jules, Ken, Cashmrer Keeper whos name I can't remember.
So far Chris Murphy has stayed the distance and included unlike prevoius years trials.
Josh Smith also named, his employer wanted him working in NI over the uni break not sure if that still stands.
One more name I've missed.
Season Launch for dragons and squad naming on Tuesday 30th.
Think you missed Mr A. Wellbourne.

Think you missed Mr A. Wellbourne.
What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?
please elaborate!?
btw, i cannot understand why some franchises have been so shy about naming their squads.
kudos to auckland, otago and team welly who have been on the front foot here and have announced their initial lists on the day that they were due to NZF
as for the rest of the franchises, you'd think they were protecting foreign intellegence or something
Could these [Bulgarians] have been the two boys that turned up with Tsetso at this weeks training?
Also on the list of players named is Ricki H, a striker from CashmereTech. Ken Yamamto was not on named list still a youth member of the squad.
Is Ken Auckland bound, varsity maybe, anyone else picked up this goss?
What happened to the Spanish whizz [fizzer] kid and Blair Duncan from the first few weeks of training?
Not much in the way of pre season games thia year with squad games on Saturday at ASB Park and 9 a sides at Tulett being the main competition.
All good and more names to be announced at Robbies [Monteiths] on Tuesday night.

All but 3 of the home games are while I'm at work. Kind of glad I didn't get the club membership now. This has happened for the last few seasons now, think I'm going to have to write a letter of complaint to somebody, just gotta figure out who.. possibly NZF for not organising the draw around my work schedule.

Not sure about Ken, but know his younger brother Renta has gone to APFA after missing out on NZ U17 World Cup training squad.

hopefully the imports are quality, because that side seems down on quality compared to last season's for me
i'd assume a starting lineup something like...
highfield - terris, collett, schwarz, wortelboer - white, clapham, smith, barton - kamo - hulbert (? don't know much about this dude)

They both need to get extensions on the visitors visas.
I take it that the Dragons won't be paying them in any form as they are not here on a working visa.
