I don't mean it as a personal attack against the guy at all and as I said none of it is personal or a roast of Canterbury.

Ben Sigmund, good defender for Canty and ACFC. Solid lad but struggled with the speed of the game and lasting 90 mins cause he always cramped up. Went to the Phoenix, lost 10kgs and now look at him.

All I am saying is if those two are in better shape, you'll have a back line that will dominate the league. In fact they may not stay in the league cause there is no doubt they can play (of which I never said they could not)

add to that the fact that vader also questioned clapham's tiny physique

i think it's safe to say that vader meant no offence and even had a few compliments for the standard of the team

Funny how people can voice an opinion that is quite offensive and then claim a defence of no offence intended and their names not even Cameron Slater :)

Yes plenty of drama today at the football, and not all on the field.  For me, as an avid observer and quiet person in the crowd, the fact that the referee, who tells his fourth official, to tell the Canty manager, to tell the crowd to stop cheering on their team was completely random.  Yes it can be intense, but as long as it isn't offensive then play on for the fervent support.

But it was a good game with a good result.

Great having football to watch over the summer. I even chose it over the cricket today too.

The problem was down to one person, the notorious Alby, yelling out that the referee was a wanker - the kind of thing he often does.

If he's not careful he might find himself banned again for two years as he was a few years ago for calling former Ireland and Man City defender and Otago player-coach Terry Phelan (of African descent) a "monkey."

Alby is actually seriously nuts and is only funny occassionally when he's not plain tiresome...has been irritating players, officials etc. for decades. He was the same in the 1990's. Back then he would sometimes yell his support for the opposition and slag off the Canterbury players when he got bored. That was certainly a low point (along with the Terry Phelan incident a few years ago).

JV, i'm danny Boys landlord unforunately.

I'm also his coach in the winter, but i must admit that when he first arrived 12 months ago, he was a fat English pussy . But i've been impressed that how lean and fit he is now.

Since he has moved in my kids don't get a look in, when it comes to getting some ice cream, but i'll give him his due he trains hard and is looking fitter and burns it off, and now he is just an English pussy. My wife was upset when you said he looked 10kg overweight, as she is questioning her cooking. I agree her cooking is to do with my large 6 pack not the fact i love a beer or 3.

So don't blame poor Danny Boys( Fanny Girls to his mates). Blame my wife

And what a nice couple you are (you and your wife I mean -but also yourself and Danny) - I knew you in your leaner days back in the 1990's John before marriage put the pounds on (alas, I was leaner then too). I remember your lovely blonde girlfriend with the red sports car - is she your wife? Does she still have the sports car?

Hey, well done for winning the league and Chatham Cup double with Tech mate !!!

You will be the Alex Ferguson of NZ one day (well, you're both Scottish and good at winning things) but not as lean...

I understand the "Alby" (not be be confused with Graham Allen aka Alby - Mainland groundsman) is not in the best of health at the moment and as a result has not been seen at any Canty United games this summer.

Hi Big Pete

Not only did i upgrade my middrif, i also did that with my partner too.

My wife doesn't have a sports car though, people mover for the brood we've accomplished together.

Fanny girls had 3 helpings of BBQ last night, i hope that right winger for Otago is slow.

Alby is an icon in ChCh, he slags the shit out of everyone especially me & my club Rangers , but is great to have on the side line unless your thin skinned.

2 - 0 victory, comfortable enough but should have been 4 or 5. Kamo and Clapham the scorers in the first 10 or so of the second half.

Kamo's 'goal' was actually an own goal off one of Southern's defenders. Agree that Southern were lucky to come away with only 2-0!

The last time this was was case was back in the 2007-08 season.

As I said previously, despite being loud and generally random, no abusive words from our friends on the bank.  Molehills and mountains.

Got to agree with you Vim.  The only abusive comment I heard was from one of the 4 young guys who were wearing official NZF referee gear leaning up against the fence (I think they were the officials from the youth game) watching the game.  He turned around and started abusing some of the supporters.  He had just arrived after halftime.

Seems someone has really planted a seed in some peoples minds maybe he has the inside from Peter O'leary - not good for the game.  In saying that the other 3 he was with seemed to be enjoying the banter on the bank.  Molehills and mountains alright

Some of the supporters were spoken to by security last home game and are showing their displeasure by staying away. An amicable solution imo.

Went to my first ever ASBP game on Sunday as Canterbury beat Southern.

Took the wife and kids and I have to say I enjoyed it probably a good deal more than I was expecting to.

We arrived just before halftime as a friends 40th lunch went longer than planned, but the 2nd was full of attractive football and Canty should have won by 5 or 6.

The artificial pitch is a part of that I'm sure, no worn, muddy or bumpy areas, and the football we saw was to be commended.

We sat on the grass bank and I thought the atmosphere and environment was excellent.

We'll be back again for sure.

I notice in Stuff there were protests about two calls.  From where we were they both seemed pretty right.  The 4 minute delay for the yellow was it took that long for play to stop but the tackle was well worth a yellow.

In fact CKW had a pretty good game as a ref in what was at times a niggly game.

Looking forward to Canty Utd vs Phoenix Reserves on Wednesday night. Who are we likely to see in the Phoenix team? Surely get some bench player time for most of the Canty team.

i'm surprised Gareth Morgan didn't have something to say about that, oh forgot, his focus is on sorting out the woes of NZ Football, not the Phoenix :)
