I think this clown has some serious anger issues. Wasn't he the one who kicked a elderly guy in techs Chatham cup defeat?

Interesting to see it was only a small head but. Isn't this the same guy who kicked an away supporter in the Chatham cup tie. I believe he also works for mainland football as there fdo also coaching the youngsters in the FTC. Will be interesting to see if they punish him after the punishment handed out to a coach at under 19 tournament recently for a comment aimed at an official.

Never good to gloss over violent conduct. But clearly there's a backhanded admission intent was there and that's enough to cop a deserved ban.
both teams whinged at every opportunity in a foul ridden game

I'm sorry a small headbutt is like someone being a 'little pregnant'....The intent percievably was there as it is getting to be in a pregnant state. If the person who has committed a headbutt then they should receive not only a ban from playing, but as the league is 'technically' amateur then their employer should take a long hard look at them too. I know my professional body would if I headbutted someone.
Irrelevant how the media describes it. 'Strike or attempt to strike' is what the rules say and that includes a headbutt.
If with 'excessive force' than that is a send-off not a caution. 2 match ban and hardly good publicity for a Mainland staffer supposed to be setting an example.
Canterbury finished third in the yoof league on the weekend after thrashing Wellington 4-0 at English Park in their last game.
And this after being down to ten players early in the second half and having another red-carded in the closing stages:

Second best goal difference after second-placed Waitakere.
Just one win off second place.
Probably the Dragons Youth's most memorable game would have been the amazing 6 - 5 away win vs. Tasman in their first game of the season back in mid October.

Ignore the top goal-scorer table for the league when you click on "Season Stats" as it's completely wrong.
Lyall Matthysen was the Dragons Youth top goal-scorer, while Daniel Thoms and Conor Smith also scored a lot.
This was a very high-scoring league with five, six, seven or more goals in a game not uncommon.
Even in games not involving Hawkes Bay who were total pants (Canterbury thrashed them 8-0 at English Park, they lost another game 9-0).

If you are stupid enough to do it (and then he protested?!?) knowing there is camera on you then you absolutely deserve what you get.

Apparently at www.trollingogilvie.com
Its not been uploaded yet but it was on the highlights package on TV on Tuesday evening. You can call it trolling if you like but its all there on video.

struggling to see on the highlights it was a headbutT, the fact the Wellington player kept walking and smiling tells a story. Gary plays the game aggressively and is a tremendous role model for young kids on and off the pitch, the ref made a decision and we get on with it. Calling for him to get the sack for that is ridiculous,

Your personal bias is not showing at all John. Its hilarious that you say he is a role model on the pitch and yet he is sent off for a headbutt. Headbutts would not be common I suspect so that puts him in a special class where you could not tag him as a role model - in fact quite the opposite. Add to the fact that you describe him as an aggressive footballer, I think you have kinda highlighted exactly where the issue is.

It was the intent to that got the card, think it missed why you see the player walking on.

Something called the "Mainland Challenge Trophy" up for grabs too apparently.
Should be a bumper summer holiday crowd at Trafalgar Park for this one.
I myself have competed on this ground - as a kid at School Sports Days in running races and sack races in the 1970's...

It was a headbut - just a really pathetic shark one. So bad it wasn't even worth the recipient diving

Interesting sentence in the Press article
"Ogilvie was sent off after the halftime whistle for a small head butt on Taylor Schrijvers during their 3-3 away draw against Team Wellington on December 18."
I wasn't aware that there were degrees of severity of a head butt, and this one allegedly was just a "small" one. Spare me!.
Is that the same as being a little bit pregnant.
Headbutt, small, large or otherwise - tough, take the sanction and move on.

as I walk away from another wasted Sunday afternoon. How on earth are we not bottom!? Got extremely lucky last week. Time for willy to go I'm afraid!! Had promised so much and failed to deliver. All the players that have come in have been awful not just this years squad Chang up front scored 1 goal and is a forward. Get local coach in and all local boys can't do any worse than imported coach and mostly imported players that struggle to get in the pride team
I feel exactly the same way!
Turning up to watch players that are out of towners who bring nothing to the local game in winter and after Gerdson and Joe Hall's scouting of players in the MPL he has players playing for the Dragons who do not dominate local club games or players who do not start each week?
Gerdson has spent more money and had more out of town players over the last season and a half than any coach before him and if it was not for some last minute/injury time goals here and there the team would be at the bottom.
Get in a local coach with local players and take it from there!
john brown and selwyn coach. Be great combination of experience and youth. Believe he is most qualified in town and john brown because he john brown

The referee will be to blame for the loss as well as the poor season so far. We seem to get more penalties than any other team yet willy is always blaming the referees. Having watched all home games apart from a couple over the last 2 years i do not understand what is seen in Chang as a forward. New coach and new players are needed. Not sure how Claps can say this is the best squad he has been involved with.
They just seemed to lack desire and understanding out there today. Southern were well organised and each player clearly understood their role. I didn't get that impression from the Dragons.
They are so reliant on Clapham to create opportunities and dictate the game. Chang was absolute mince, De Jong was anonymous. There are some pretty good club players who could put in a pretty good shift at least instead of all these mediocre imports.
Southern totally outplayed Canterbury. They had the desire and understood that this game was a Derby. Everyone of there players got stuck in for 90 mins. Well played Southern. More local content needed at the Dragons if the red and black is going to be neglected.
I love how people can watch a Southern side perform as good as it has in years, thanks to having six imports, and then scream about needing more Canterbury locals in their side.
Not that it's necessarily the wrong call - just funny optics.

But then again, Southern supporters were decrying the lack of locals in their team when they were struggling before the last three game winning streak.
Their imports have only recently clicked with the team. Though obviously there's some real quality there.
"Shambolic" in the Press headline sums up yesterday's game - and that's unusually strong language from the Press.
Anyway, a chance for redemption vs. Auckland City on the weekend in the 4.35 pm kick-off televised game.
If Gerdson can't turn things around soon, then there will have to be major changes next season.

Yes well stated. A few hundred $ in the bank and still out of towners wanting to be paid owed money.
How much have the Americans cost? Not one of them has been worth the bus fare from the bus exchange to English Park.
Could add Chang to that waste of money starts most games and Tom S has more impact on the score sheet.
De Jong needs to sort his own game out and stop asking/worrying about the locals being up for the fight to seasons end.
On the other hand maybe Willys boy has been getting some inside info on team unrest?
