Maybe you need to consider that your local league down there is just not strong enough to support a local national league team.

Did Canterbury not finish near the bottom of the table before the German took over?

BTW- looking through their official squad list- there seems to be more local player than Tasman, ACFC and HBU have together. Batty,Knight,Lockhart, Terris Schwarz,Clapham,Oglivie,Thoms,Spain,Wilson,Hoyle,Schacht,Brady

I'll let Terris and Schwarz be locals, but Ogilvie and Hoyle no way.

Lockhart is former Auckland City only at uni in ChCh not local.

Watched the replay of Ogilvie. Paused it at point of impact. Unfortunately he has led with the shoulder/arm and left his feet doing so. Perhaps a bit unlucky, but it would be clear if you are trying to brace yourself with your hands. Did his sending off last time/reputation play a role? Either way he hasn't helped himself

Relax, only a little headbut last time and only a little forearm this time.

Can't see that anyone playing football in Christchurch would have a problem paying a very little Canterbury United levy as well as a little bit of their affiliation fee to employ him a little as youth FDO. Lad  is just a little bit slow on the uptake but he'll get there.  Eventually.

guess mainland will turn a blind eye when it comes to there employee. Heard a rumour selwyn player got big telling off from mainland so does it come down to who you play for

Awaiting Broonie to appear and tell us how he has cured cancer so this is not an indication of him as a footballer.

I watched the game today and Ogilvie is a absolute waste of space on and off the pitch mainland need to pull there finger out and realise that this guy is doing nothing but harm to the franchise bad role model for the young kids watching. first game back after a headbutt and gets a red and leaves our team to fight with 10 men. Overal very disappointed with the performance in general from the dragons only good thing was our back four big ups to Tom Swartz for being the leader Ogilvie could only ever dream to be.

Perhaps he will. I guarantee he won't learn the lesson though...

A Kiwi who hasn't flown into the area just to play SSP, local enough.

Would have gone home to Auckland over holidays if not with CU so not local

He spends most of the year in Chch and has played his club football there for the past two winters.

Yes, he isn't a born and bred Cantabrian, but in a league where half the minutes go to out-and-out foreigners, he's local enough.

classic how he was complaining that he was just balancing himself when he clearly raises his elbows to connect

Maybe they need a CB to replace Tom Schwarz who they should just put up front, hes scored more in 1 game than current strikers have nearly all season!

Sounds like Gary Ogilvie received a two match ban.

saw the highlights last night.

Ogilvie has a serious anger issue. How can you take two shots at players heads then both times feel aggrieved at getting sent off, especially when the second one happened the very 1st game back from suspension

Idiot, and CU would do well to wash their hands of him. In an 18 game league, missing 4 games for being an idiot is inexcusable.

Maybe to replace Komolong who will be unavailable if we make the semis due to playing for PNG in a World Cup qualifier that weekend.

Aaron Spain may also be missing if he ends up playing for PNG - apparently he's been asked by the PNG manager if he's interested.

Great work NZ Football scheduling our national league semis the same weekend as OFC World Cup qualifying...

Can see it here, after he has landed and ball has gone he jumps up into the Auckland player leading with his forearm. No problems with the red card even if you see in the footage it looks like he is claiming he only pushed the player. (3mins 10 secs in)

Not a real fan, just pretending to be one!

think the squad needs to be drug tested. Gary isn't a malicious player. Sent off for head butted and a elbow!! Tells me and everyone something different. Oh and remember kicked a fan whilst playing for club team. But hey he will be defended which is outrage

Good 4 - 1 win away to WeeNix, HT 2 - 0 . Stephen Hoyle first 2 goals, Andre De Jong the fourth with the third credited as an own goal.
