CU 2  Team Wellington 2 final score.

Summary of todays game.

Canterbury had a wind advantage in the first half.  Played some great football but should have 'pulled the trigger' a lot earlier with the wind behind them.  Plays broke down when in likely scoring areas or one touch too many when a shot should have been taken.  Wellington looked dangerous down Fa'arodo's wing and was a handful for Collett.  1 nil to Canterbury did not seem enough to hold Wellington with the wind.

Wellington really dominated early in the second half and scored an equaliser in a goal mouth scrabble early in the half (from a set piece from memory).  Canterbury looked resigned to the draw even pulling off a forward and stacking the defense to the disappointment of the fans.  Wellington then went on to score to make it 2 - 1.  Canterbury were lucky to snatch a draw at the end right on full-time through a goal to Spain.

Sean Devine's reaction to a fan was quite disturbing he ran into the Wellington team's technical area and launched himself against the fence with expletives after Canterbury scored their equaliser.  Not a good look for a coach - looked like a loose cannon.

Devine a loose cannon? Colour me shocked.

Is this usual behaviour?  I was quite shocked - how would he go at higher leagues?  Looked like he wanted to sock someone.....

when he played (at the Knights and in the NRFL) he was an English version of Berisha - but less goals

Nailed it. Again loose cannon is mild. He did his first assistant coaching gig under Cocaine Mickey at Metro. He is unhinged once he gets that football fever in him. You should not be surprised. I put a $5 down that he will be tossed before the end of the season for getting into it with an opponent or supporter.

In his defence he was getting baited by the bank yelling "sack Devine" over and over. Then we scored the equaliser and he ran straight at them and jumped on the fence.

Amazing and embarrassing to watch at the same time.

That is no defence whatsoever. You just get on with it and ignore spectators. You don't react to them or else you always risk coming out of it looking worse, like it sounds like he did today.

Three for me, and two for them.

I heard the 'sack Devine' call after he pulled the forward off and went to close shop with 1-1 on the board.  Embarrassing all right as I said how would he go in higher leagues  - sticks and stones comes to mind.

Not very good to see another guy on the side of the dug out giving the fingers to people either.  Older guy that seemed part of the management team.  Not very professional at all....

Well said.  I thought it was an offence to enter another team's technical area/dugout let alone enter their area to give abuse/respond to a spectator.

Yer that's Geoff Price, part of Tech, first time I've seen him on the CU bench.

Where on earth do they get these guys?  The unfortunate thing will be that nothing will come of their behaviour - any other team at a slightly higher level would reprimand them or 'sack' them.

Canterbury football on the down at the moment. Shocking result for the National League team n even though the youth team won I thought they were absolutely awful. Heartland played way better football n were worth at least a point...hard to believe they r last on the log. Alan Walker seems to have run out of ideas n in my humble opinion should step down next year...Paul Bateson is an absolute tool n shouldn't in any capacity be involved in youth football. Still can't understand how players like Avery, Dante n Abdul even the Moate-Cox lad aren't in tht team. The senior squad is no better and I wouldn't be surprised if attendance for the remainder of the season is at an all time low. People say give Sean a chance n I believe we have but to bring in 3 average players from up north when we have better players here...n by saying average I'm still being nice.

Disappointing to lose 3-1 to a youth team.

Although overall we want to see the Wanderers team improving heading to next year's World Cup, just not getting the better of Canterbury...

But at least Clapham is back:

http://www.nzfootball.co.nz/wanderers-grab-first-w...

"[Early in the second half] Aaron Clapham made his first appearance of the season – coming off the Canterbury United bench and going close with his very first touch – firing a freekick just over the Wanderers SC crossbar."

Devine post-match:

“I think that’s the first time this season that I’ve found the players wanting,” Devine said.

“We didn’t turn up and we didn’t compete and we got what we deserved, we got beaten by a better team and a hungrier team.”

In making his return from injury on Sunday, Clapham showed some neat touches and while Devine is pleased his midfielder is back on deck, the Canterbury United coach feels the entire group need to shoulder more of the load moving forward.

“He’s class and he is quality but we can’t keep relying on one player. One player doesn’t make a team. There are 11 players out there and they all need to work and the buck stops there.”

“There needs to be a massive improvement all round.”

I hear Canty Untied could drop another place on the ladder with news circulating up north the Wanderers may gain three points more due to one of the North Island sides playing a unregistered player against them in an earlier round.

That would be a good call. Heaps of new players, played them first. I know ACFC didn't trot out anyone unusual when I watched them.
