this is the report from the Waitakere United website...

10-10-2009 WAITAKERE STORM HOME IN CHILLY TAUPO Neil Emblen was more than a little bemused as Waitakere United stormed home to beat Team Wellington 3-1 in an NZFC warm-up in anything but warm conditions at Taupos Crown Park on Saturday.

Down 0-1 at the break thanks to a couple of crucial saves from the Team Wellington custodian and with Emblen playing the opening 45 minutes at the centre of the United defence, Waitakere hit top gear after the break to score three unanswered second half goals and win comfortably.

To be fair, we dominated the first half, said Emblen after the game, but we could not turn possession into goals despite the best efforts of Roy [Krishna] and Benji [Totori] up front.

It was only after I had gone off we started scoring, he joked

Former Wellington Phoenix striker Greg Draper scored the only goal of the first spell giving Team Wellington their lead after 30 minutes.

The second half, with basically a completely different line-up as Emblen ensured all the 21 players he had taken south had some game time, was a revelation for United.

Young Dakota Lucas had Waitakere level 1-1 with his goal 10 minutes into the second half. He then set up former All White Allan Pearce for the go-ahead goal 10 minutes later. Pearce added a third right on time to complete a good day at the office for United.

Danny Robinson played the first half in goal for Waitakere with Liam Little between the posts after the break.

It was a good hit out for both teams who overcame the temperatures which never got above 5 or 6 degrees to turn in a worthwhile performance.

The two teams next meet in round five of the NZFC at Fred Taylor Park on December 13.

TeeDubs started with:

                  Draper       (American dude?)

                                Bryan Little

Darren Cheriton                                   Cole Peverley

                        Christian Bale (I think)

Jamie Duncan                                                 Birchy
                   (Austrian dude?)  Ex-Napier Davies

                           Jake "the Snake" Gleeson

Bench: Richie "the Greyhound" McLay, can't remember who else tbh.

Missing: Andy Barron, Luis Corrales, Jumbo Jimbo Bannatyne, Karl Whalen, prob some others.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Optimism in spite of the result. I like it.

TW beat Youngheart Manawatu (no Raf) 3-1 on Saturday just gone.  Bit of a training game - 3 x 40 minute thirds.  Andy Barron got one, apparnetly chipped Ross Nicholson from 30 yards.  Not sure about the other two.

Is that a typo Smithy or did they really play for two hours?

Relieved to see TW have maintained their ginger quotient this year, replacing Ginger Ronaldo (Sam Blackburn) with a smaller verion - Ben Fredrickson (pictured below):

Nah just a chance to play all the squad for a decent amount of time.  I believe everyone played two 40s.

Game did seem really long last weekend. Draper got the other one for TW. Pretty even game overall, end to end but TW had a few more chances and put them away.

United States of Australia?

Though my girlfriend is American so perhaps one day...though right now we're far enough to avoid her father and his shotgun!

What age group are the Academy Squads? Is it if the player turns 19 next year when the league begins?

Am liking my Midfield role in that team!
Hopefully I can get along to a few TeeDubs games this season, only managed to get along to 3 or 4 last year.
