result of failing to build a local core - we're 13 years in ffs.

It needs to be pointed out that Gavin Hoy is NOT American, as the newspaper article says. He's a Canadian!! Met him tonight and eyebrows were raised due to that glaring error. Get it right Hawke's Bay today.

We were at the season kickoff dinner tonight. So many new players on the team!

HBU is a Central Football team not a HB team, but point taken, there should be more HB players in the team. There are a number playing elsewhere tho, you cant make them stay home.

HBU - WeeNix 3:2 in Palmy today. Two penalties for HBU. The young Nix dominated the posession, but HBU created more chances (missed 2-3 one-on-ones).  I thought the HBU played better last week against the TW, but I hear they had a rather tough week training and focusing on fitness. They looked a bit tired...

Not sure that is a fear call, I could name at least 6 dozen lads probably under 24/25  from HB that have played at national league level for different franchise, but no longer level in the bay.

Just watched the highlights on SKY. Don't want and cannot comment on other games, but the SKY TV reporting on HBU vs TU game was utter rubbish.

Painted the picture of an evenly contested game in which the HBU in the end escaped with a draw after the TU missed that late penalty.

What was shown on TV was a "miss of the season" for HBU (which it was not), goals (of course) , missed penalty for TU and one half-chance for HBU. And of course, a good doze of "evil Brett Angel".

The fact that HBU missed another 2-3 basically point blank chances doesn't seem to interest SKY TV at all.

Incompetent at best...At worst - I don't even want to talk about it.

If Angell is banned from the sideline against Canty Utd this weekend for the second year in a row I'll be asking for my season ticket price back.

Doubt he will be on the sideline against CBU...In fact, almost certainly not. Go and get your money back.

wow if any of the decisions in the HUB game were as bad as the pen in the SU CU game then no wonder Brett was giving ref earful...

Yeah but the actual decisions and the amount of shark he gives the refs are not necessarily linked.  I think he's got to reign it in, it's a bad look for the club

calling you out on this - just seen the highlights and it was very clear to me that HBU were on top, the voiceover even said so.  Not sure if SKY can be blamed for HBU not winning.

Yep, maybe I overreacted (somewhat)  - however, I have seen the game live and what happened during the game and what was shown on SKY are two different stories. It is clear the SKY think it is more important  to show the moment when Brett was sent off than showing another several situations in front of TU goal. The story from the game : a complete domination by HBU and some good football, the SKY story - an average game with very few chances, but that doesn't matter so much, what matters is -  that coach was sent off again !

And you seem to think that I blame SKY for HBU not winning ?

well you are certinaly implying some kind of agenda - which I don't think is there to be honest.  as a netural I would rather see the send off rather than another missed chance.

Nah, there are no agendas. I just do not think the sending off should be more important than the game of football and what actually happened on the field. I thought SKY moved away from football in their report and that was a bad thing, but you just explained to me that you and probably a few others prefer the opposite. In which case the SKY got it spot on and I was wrong...Oh well.

That is why they are splitting hairs as there isn't much else to split on. Coverage is miniscule.

I don't think Sky actually care enough to have any agenda's!

What I would say about the sending off though, is that given it's Angell's 3rd in 2 seasons that's why they are focusing on it, that and he has built himself a reputation off "going of on one" which always makes good TV - and people who are neutral would probably rather see his reactions than a near miss by a Hawke's Bay United player

HAWKE'S BAY UNITED APPEAL ANGELL SUSPENSION

Media Release 3-1-18

Thirsty Whale Hawke’s Bay United have appealed the one game match suspension handed out to Head Coach, Brett Angell following his sending off in Round 8 of the ISPS HANDA Premiership vs Tasman on 10 December 2017. The club received written notice of the suspension on the afternoon of Friday 15 December. From there a request was made for the full written ‘Terms of the Decision’ to the NZF Competitions Director and Competitions Manager, Daniel Farrow and Kevin Forde respectively.

These ‘terms’ were received Tuesday 19 December by Hawke’s Bay United.

Hawke’s Bay United formally lodged the appeal with the New Zealand Football Disciplinary Committee via the Competitions Director on Thursday 28 December 2017 and are currently awaiting a decision. It should be noted Head Coach Angell has already served the one match suspension during the Round 9 away match to Canterbury United Dragons.

Hawke’s Bay General Manager, Shane McKenzie had the following to say on the appeal:-

“Although Brett has already served the suspension, in this instance the club believes there are, in our eyes enough discrepancies between the various reports and the reasoning for our coach been ejected from the match and additionally suspended for one further game that an appeal had to be lodged. We have not taken this decision lightly and will now await the outcome from the NZF Disciplinary Committee……In the meantime we look forward to our first home game of 2018 vs Hamilton Wanderers at Park Island this Sunday (7 January) at 2pm.”

This is as embarrassing as Angell's behaviour on the sidelines - the board should be holding him to account as to why he is acting in a way that leads to him being unable to do his job (coach the team from the sideline because he is banned) rather than this kind of silliness.
